Music Shit / Re: Thrift Score

Big score - checked out a Savers in town and looked in the glass case to see what ridiculously overpriced Aerosmith album they had this time. They had a copy of The Beatles - "A Hard Day's Night" soundtrack. The cover was pretty good so I asked to take a look at it. There was a "Something New" shoved in there along with a sleeved record. Pulled the sleeved record and it turned out to be a mono white label promo. They had it marked for $25 and I had a 30% off coupon so I figured why not, I could recoup $18 on a Beatles promo. Was pretty stoked on my find when I looked it up!

Small score - found a copy of the Haunted Mansion LP with the great artwork and booklet. It only goes for $40 or so but I've been hoping to come across one for about 10 years and finally did for $.25!

Done! Stoked to get this, I've been listening to the stream over and over...

Some of it did. The show goal was met and surpassed but time allowed only about half to be played.

Tune in next week (SUN 8-10p) to hear the live set.

Feel free to donate a few bucks to the station fundraiser too!

Jay played a restaurant (house) in Davis CA in Nov 2007. He played a killer 14 minute (barely) set and you can hear 13 minutes of it TONIGHT.

The KDVS 90.3fm Fundraiser is in full swing and needs your help. Donate a dollar or 50 and if Bloody Holly meets her show goal between 8-10p PST tonight, then she will play the whole Jay set.

She will have a bunch of great stuff, unheard live recordings from KDVS presented shows - Jacuzzi Boys, Grass Widow, NOBUNNY, Davila 666 and more...

As if that wasn't enough... there's more!!! Bloody Holly has a "ruff mix" of a brand new song from HUNX and an unheard Buddy Holly cover from Peach Kelli Pop!

Tune in at KDVS.org, buy some records on the fundraiser site and hear some tunes you will not hear anywhere else becuase, literally, no one else has it.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Shipping records to douchebags on Ebay

I've sent records in oversized cardboard a bunch of times and never had compaints - even had safe delivery internationally.

I use 4 boards - 2 x 13" & 2 x "14" - tape the record (inside a plastic sleeve) to a 13" board and enclose it in the other 13" board and then place that inside the 14" boards - making sure the cardboard lines are going opposite directions to make it sturdy. Tape the shit out of it and your done. It's very solid and ships media mail at the same price as a record box.

Non-Music Shit / Washing an Acetate/Reference disc?
« on: August 13, 2012, 04:32:29 PM »
So I just picked up a 7" soul record at Goodwill and it appears to be an acetate/reference disc (metal platter in the middle, sticker label with typed labels, you can see a small hole through the labels).

Can this be cleaned on a record washer? It's pretty noisy when it plays, noisier than I would expect with the the scuffs and scrathes that are visible, so I figured maybe it just needs to be cleaned. In trying to find what I had, it seems that these aren't meant to be played more than a few times.

This is the record:

Folks ordering this would be wise to pick up The Bright Ideas LP + singles available via the same site as well.

Yes. The Bright Ideas LP is fantastic. Haven't heard the BI singles but I really enjoyed the LP.

This English Singles 7" along with the Slumberland 7" are great!

He sold me 300 blank ones a few months ago for around $50. Seems weird that Bags Unlimited doesn't have these.

These turned out great for screenprinting.

Nevermind the cover of Entertainment Weekly:

LOUIS C.K. SELLS $4.5 MILLION IN TICKETS HIMSELF

NEW YORK (AP) - Comedian Louis C.K. has made $4.5 million in about 45 hours by selling tickets to his show himself. He says he's sold 100,000 tickets by bypassing ticketing services and selling them through his website for $45 with no fees. Louis C.K. tweets, "I guess it was a good idea." His stand-up tour begins in October.

"Good for him!"

So Goodwill in Sacramento (at least the location I visited tonight) has raised the price of their LPs to $4! They were $1 about a 2 years ago and they upped it to $2. $4 for all those $1 records is insane. I was nice, but I let them know I would likely not be buying any more records from them if the price stands. I hit a Goodwill nearly every day... Goodwill in Reno still had recs for 95 cents a month or 2 ago!

What do you pay at Goodwill in your city?

I'm sure I could some pretty good bucks but I just can't part with my Smiths/Morrissey collection. First band I really tried to collect 7" and 12" singles, imports, promos, etc... Haven't listened to them in years, but every time I look at those great covers and remember the music and what it all meant as a teen, I can't do it.
