Is this kind of deep-groove pressing not done anymore? Even 180 gram blah blah blah records I get don't seem as quality as these prime jazz pressings.

Whatever the process that they used to make those deep groove LPs, I don't think the same process is used today. You're rright about the 180 and 220 gram pressings...they don't really pop outta the speakers the same way and the old Blue Note/Prestige/Impulse/Riverside and select Columbia 2-eye/6 eye/360 sound/Unbreakable jammers...they just feel thicker.

ever heard a 50s be-bop deep groove lp (blue note/ riverside esp.)? they explode.

Picked up a kinda bonked copy yesterday. Still plays great with just a minimal amount of surface noise. Deep groove pressings fuckin rule.
