Used Records For Sale/Auctions/Wantlists / Re: Sleeves/vinyl needed
« on: March 15, 2012, 07:57:17 PM »
If you go to www.remo-voor.eu and click on Remo Cd, scroll down to the bottom and I believe that is the lyric sheet/insert in question. By the way, one of my favorite songs of all time, one day I will find that fuggin record.

I recently gained possession of the first two minor threat 7"s, both without inserts. Does anyone have any scans/know if there are any floating around? Any versions would be great. Will trade for hi-res scans of the inserts for the Heart Attack 7" if that helps.

One semester in college I had a class that started relatively late. It was in the main building and by the time the class started that building was pretty much empty. My class was on a floor that was generally deserted anyways, so I thought it would be a great place to take a shit before class. I go in and -- yes, it's empty. I can shit in peace and solitude. I go into the stall right next to the handicap stall and start doing my thing. It was the sort of diarrhea shit where even when it seems to be done you have to wait a second before leaving in order to not be ambushed by more diarrhea. After a minute or two I notice A GLORY HOLE in the stall wall that separates my stall from the handicap one. It was just like the ones I have seen -- there was tape around the edges and of course someone had labeled it "glory hole" with a grease pen. I start thinking that I should get outta there before someone comes in expecting service. While I am trying my best to diarrhea quickly but painlessly, a dude in loafers comes in and slowly walks into the handicap stall. I started wiping and getting ready to leave, but in the meanwhile the guy in the other stall seems to be just standing there. I don't want to look. After what seemed like an eternity he finally starting peeing. I was never so relieved to hear another man relieving himself.

I told my friend about it and apparently he had to quit using that bathroom because several times while he was taking a dump the same guy would walk in and ask if he (the weirdo) could give my friend a blowjob. He didn't want to take no for an answer. The year I graduated they redid all the bathrooms.

In Blue Ridge, Georgia there is a barbecue restaurant called Blue Ridge Mountain Barbecue. One of the women who works behind the counter looks like your typical mid 30's goth-hick, but she has a number of terrible tattoos. Among them is a tattoo that reads "it is what it is" in lower-case celtic font across her chest. If you ask her how the brunswick stew is, she'll tell you its incredible. If you ask about the cornbread, she will point to her chest while nodding her head.

No insert but:

BOOTLEG. The edges of the cover art are cut off.

Had no idea this was bootlegged, I knew about the madog boot , is that a new one?

There are several bootlegs of this record. with the exception of a pixelated cover or altered swastikas, it can be difficult to tell if a copy on ebay is bootleg or not, especially if you have never seen the original. I always ask for the matrix numbers written in the dead wax. If they don't match the original ones (listed on discogs) then I know.

Does MANIC have any songs on the interweb or is the tape still available. I bought MAAILMANLOPPU live cas some time ago, pretty good hardcore punk with members of Omaisuusvahinko, Pahaa Verta, Death With A Dagger etc.

MANIC is recording for a 7" in two weeks.

I might care more about them if I had had the opportunity to see them live, but seeing as they haven't toured or played anywhere near the midwest in the last 3 years, I could pretty much care less.

I have personally never been addicted to their records, and I'm not going to fall prey to hyperbole and say that Double Negative has blown my mind into fragments every time I have seen them play. They're always good, and are usually the best band of the night. But a few times I have seen them put everyone else to shame and play a jaw-dropping, maniacal set.

Remember when you saw your first awesome hardcore show and went home and moshed/circle-pitted/punched mirrors afterwords because you were so chock full of enthusiasm? Sometimes I feel that way after watching DN, and no other bands out there do that for me. Once you've seen them live their records pale in comparison, and that's much better than vice-versa.

Also, new -/- gets a thumbs down here. That band is in the process of completely shitting all over their legacy. Replacing Walsby was a (barely) forgivable mistake, but a new singer just destroyed the band.

Have you seen the band with the new drummer? He's soo good. They are every bit as powerful as with Walsby, if not more so. Bobby pounds those things with a vengeance. As for their new singer, having seen 5 out of the 6 (or maybe 7) shows they have played since he joined I can say that Double Negative are still awesome and are only getting better. Legacies are made to be shit on (HOW WE ROCK / GRAVE NEW WORLD / MOST OF GANG GREEN'S CATALOG).

Non-Music Shit / Re: Pay To Play
« on: December 09, 2011, 07:49:26 AM »
I just realized how lucky I am.
Atlanta right now has some venues that have been doing monthly free shows: 529 and the Star Bar.

The beautiful thing is that bands generally get paid pretty well from free shows at the Star Bar, and the free aspect brings out a lot of people.
529 used to do free shows on a certain day of the week (i can't remember) and the bar itself handles its own production costs (soundguy, etc.).

There is also a community center called Wonderroot that is completely volunteer-run, and a few friends of mine have worked the door or sound there as their community service. There is no rental fee, you don't have to pay a sound guy, all the money goes to the touring bands. It can be difficult to book there but it's a fun place and when I book shows for out of town bands I like to know that I won't have to pay them out of pocket if only a handful of people show up.

One thing I would like to say is that it is worth paying a soundguy more than $50 if he is actually running sound somewhere that has a real setup. It's a job just like anything else.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new lineup of Double Negative when they play with Hoax on the 16th. One show will satisfy several counts of curiosity.

Taco Cabana here in Texass serves beer and frozen margaritas(obviously not that strong.). The place is much better than taco bell and their 24 hours. However,I have never seen any cabanas up north, east?west????
There is a Taco Cabana in Atlanta. My first two years of college I went there a lot because it was cheap and because they never asked me for my id. When the clubs on Saturday night Taco Cabana fills up with all the weirdos and douchebags who are either too picky or not drunk enough to eat at Waffle House. But their margarita pitchers are cheap.

You can get those wire shelves from Home Depot. They are $80-$90. I have one, they are sturdy and can hold a ton of weight.
