Vint - if you are asking me to comment on your unsolicited email, first you have to tell me what the fuck  "i want to be the superb qualities to your three pronged fingertips" means? jesu help us, this chick sounds like the sensei in a low budg kung fu meets mutant invasion flick.  what's next "i want a motor listening eternity," "see I dance faith," "i am penis empire..." I'm sorry my attempts blow compared to that poetry. please do not answer what the fuck but get more of that prose out of it and then set it to music. do a mash up of it with earache my eye and i would laugh and i dont even smoke pot.

i hope this answers your question

Vint - If you are asking me whether I enjoy Eugene Robinson's band in which he strips down naked and fondles his ebony member while grunting to heavy loud rock music, well, you are talking about Saturday night at the Soriano estate.

E- If you are asking me whether putting mashed potatoes and fish on a pizza is acceptable, please understand that because I think pineapple on pizza shows how versitile pizza is I am against it. I am a pizza purist. Pile on all the cheese you want, put whatever kind of pork/beef you want on it, lay on the veggies (though I would stop at potatos, turnips and carrotts), but dont put another meal on top of it. I mean what is the point of putting BBQ chicken on it when you can have BBQ chicken and if you need the starch, grab yourself a slice of wonder bread. As far as sauces, red sauce and pesto - anything else just pisses me off. And I'll tell you another thing I hate: There is a place in town that has "carb free pizza" aka pizza without the crust. Now how the hell are you gonna eat pizza without crust. Lets go one further, what the fuck is pizza without crust? It is meat, cheese, and sauce. It isnt pizza, it is some fucking glop.  And I look at the TV and see a carb free burger AKA a hamburger without a bun. That isnt a fucking hamburger. That is a ground steak and a salad. And if you are gonna do that you might as well make meatloaf cuz meatloaf tastes a hell of a lot better than some fucking burger patty and katsup. Some times I hate the fuck out of people.

I hope that answers your questions.

Young Steve - If you are asking what I think of the magazine called Horizontal Action  and the band called the Knack, I have to say I have simular feeling toward both. Taken as a whole they are both just okay. I dont have any use for the porn reviews and interviews in HozAc and the Knack such when they get too rock or too Beatles. However, when they both do something good they do it really good. I am not sure if HozAc has had an issue as classic as the My Sharona riff but that is cool. Let me just say that the world is probably a better place because both exist.

E - If you are asking my opion on a number of different subjest I will have to respond  one by one.

Pure Filth is fine, maybe better in concept than exicution but just because I tire of Shane White's writing.

20/20 are very good. Great? I dunno. Maybe I've just owned 20/20 records for far too long so back when you youngsters were getting into them it was no relevation to me. I mean, Yellow Pills - which I think is pure genius - was a minor radio hit. For a long time I would get them mixed up with the Sinceros, who had a minor hit about the same time.  That I hung on to my 20/20 records for 20+ years should say something. A lot of the other US new wave/power pop stuff I bought back then - Gary Myrick & the Figures, The Kings, the Knack, the Rubinoos - didnt survive five years in the record stacks (though I later thrifted Rubinoos records and checked out the Knack again and found I like it).

Metal Urbain is the tits. And so are the Metal Boys. And so is Dr Mix. One regret I have is not taking up an offer to buy the first MU 7" for $10 back in the 90s because I thought it was too expensive. Let's just say this: Metal Urbain is proof that the French knew rock and roll when all kind of drips in the US (including myself) would mock them for things such as Telephone.

Pizza? What kind of question is that? Of course I like pizza. It is a food of the gods, the perfect meal. If I could I'd eat it every day, maybe three times a day. I think the fact that someone put pineapple on it and succeeded is mindblowing and proves how great of a food it is.

What is the point in getting a handjob? Are you offering and if so, why the fuck not?

Winona sounds like Redding used to be. Freaky hick kids starved for punk.

Vint - if you are thinking about this living in a warehouse thing seriously, do your research. i've known people who have pulled it off for years and then i've known some who have moved in only to have the landlord or cops or building inspector pull up and say, no way. a lot of it depends on the other businesses in the area and how hep they are to you crashing there. also if there are a lot of young people in and out, cops tend to stake it out as a drug den. the practice space i run gets a cop stakeout every three years or so, more often since this area is full bore into gentrifacation.

Richie - If you are asking me my opinion on Gene Vincent, well, I have to tell you that I say Go Cat Go! Gene Vincent is my favorite of the early somewhat popular White rock and rollers. Some people say Eddie Cochran, no way, dad. Gene had more songs about having sex with underage school girls. Plus, one of the first 45s that I took from my mom's collection was be bop a lula. And one of my favorite songs (tied with Troy Shondell's Girl after Girl and the Cheers' Black Leather Jacket and Motorcycle Boots) was Woman Love (Oh woman love hey hey hey...). All the punkers were on Eddie Cochran's dick but that was only because Sid covered a song of his. Gene was totally fucking cooler and his songs have that odd stumbling while drunk but in rhythm quality to them.

Mark Beef - If you are asking me what I think of Amp in relation to Hitlist or Razorcake, I have to say I havent given that any thought. It is probably because the most thought I've given to Amp was getting an issue in the mail and an ad sheet and quickly tossing both in the recycle bin. Actually, I thought of them again when a local label guy told me if I advertised in them I was guarenteed good reviews of all my product. Hitlist was certainly not what it promised and became boring pretty fast. What is pathetic was all the "we are gonna bury MRR" and then folding a couple years into their "insurgency." Still it was way better than Amp. Razorcake is at least a zine and I know that the reviewers will  review stuff irrespective of whether you run an ad or not. To say it is better than Amp is as obvious as knowing a blow to the head of a cripple will get little response. That said, we in the underground of punk rock are sorely in need of a print zine. There is nothing out there. Nothing.

Johnno - If you are asking if I am a frisco-phile, give me a break. That means I am for all things Frisco. I am closer to a Franophile than a Frisco-phile. That said I do appreciate the city of San Francisco a lot and think that its punk scene, especially 76 - 83 is very very underrated. To answer your question about the first two DK albums. I think the first one is great. Then came their turn toward playing fast fast fast, which I dont dig too much. Plastic Surgery... is good but no Fresh Fruit, but how can it be? When I got Fresh Fruit way back in the days of coal and butter, it lived on my turntable. God knows how many times I had to explain to mom that I Kill Children was a joke. That, Jealous Again and Back from Samoa were in constant rotation.

The Dead? I appreciate what they do and what they do with their money. Their foundation provides grants for all kinds of cool things and good people. Man, forget all the hippie shit, they made lots of money for years with one or two radio hits, which had little to do with their draw.  They actively encouraged their fans to tape their shows and trade tapes. They told promoters to lay off their fans and let them do what they wanted. Within rock and roll there are few bands that have been that good to their fans. They have also been open to experimentation. That said,   play them and I head for the door. Cant stand that stuff. The only one of those San Francisco  Renaisance bands I like is Quicksilver Messenger Service, who with Flipper, are one of the best bands Frisco has produced.

I hope this answers your questions.

In the late 80s & early 90s we used to do renegade shows. This one guy found that parking garages have electrical outlets so he got his (Pounded Clown) and a friends band to play one downtown. Just cruised on up with a PA and one set of equipment and the audience, set up, plugged in and played. Each band would play a song and then switch off til the cops came, if the cops came, and closed it down. The first time Los Huevos played was at one which went from 10 pm to 2 am, when the cops finally showed up. It was 12 bands and each band played 10 minutes and switched over. The cops who came saw about 200 people and told us we had 10 minutes to clear out before the back up came. Two hundred people packed up, cleaned up and split in about 5 minutes. One of the  last renegade shows happened when some idiots decided to do one downtown the night of the Rodney King verdict. As LA was burning, they set up and were immediately decended upon by Sacto's finest and two helicopters. Fucking morons should have waited a couple nights.  Since then there have been one or two, including one at a parking garage under the freeway. Lightning Bolt and Forcefield played that one. Forcefield were so loud and the frequencies so low that hundreds of rats scurried out of the parking garage and into the street. It was really fucking appocalypitic to see all these fleeing rats while this low, loud pulse and harsh noise was coming from a cement structure, in the middle of a moonless night.

I've never been and I am guilty of judging it by its fans.  In the past 5 years it has blown up so much that travel agencies offer tour packages for it, it gets regular run in the daily paper's lifestyle section, etc. in other words yuppies and slummers have latched on to it. That said, I am told by my label partner Sakura and some good friends that the time to be there is the week leading up to the burning, when people are setting up. My friend Larry has taken to leaving on Friday before the horde comes. I am sure it is fine and fun and all but not for me.

I have no beef with Pete. Like a lot of us who pretty much spend most our lives in a smaller city doing shit for locals who tend not to appreciate it until it is gone, he is a dork. But so am I.  I give him all the props he deserves for flying his freak flag in Reno for so long and not being beaten down by indifference and seeing what he loves about his city disappear as the yuppies decend. He is just fond of jumpsuits and released more than one Loudmouths record.

When he toured with Lolite, he was always wearing a red jump suit. I think he was being more european than ironic.

Burning man? ugh.

Richie, if you are asking what I think about The Scientist, if I have alzheimers, and who Killed Brian Jones, I have to say that one of the few styles of music I know little about is reggae. My little brother is pretty much an expert on the stuff - has thousands of cds & records, dejays shows, radio, & festivals, etc. - and he turned me off to it early on by trying to shove the shit down my throat. Later when I got into early stuff via R&B (I like the vocal harmonies a lot, in fact, I think that the harmonies in early reggae and rocksteady are often better than American R&B), I consciously limited myself because how many fucking genres do I need to explore. I got to the point where it was Okay pick two: Black gospel, Latin, reggae. Reggae got thrown out. Later calypso got in. Anyway, all that is to say that I am a novice when it comes to reggae. I know a lot of the early groups and more soulful stuff but am at a loss with dub aside from the odd Lee Perry record and a King Tubby cut or two.

As far as alzheimers, can you repeat the question? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha....

Who killed Brian Jones? Obviously himself, but if I was to play conspiracy theorist, it would be Mick. He has always been the super ambitious ruthless business man of the band and I think cold blooded enough to do it. Jones gone leaves the split and rights to the band name to 4 remaining band members - the fifth being a hired hand until Ron Wood was officially made a member, what?, five years ago? - and the guy was pretty much worthless at the end of his run. Mick would have fired him if Jones didnt have all the rights to shit. In any case, the fucker brought it on to himself.

Officer Brad - If you are asking me whether I think Bobby Fuller killed himself or was murdered by Bob Crane, I think it is pretty obvious that he was murdered by Bob Crane. There is a sexual snuff film somewhere of it. I am pretty sure. Try  www.bobcranefuckingbobby fullerintheasswhilestran glinghim.com
Back to Jerry Nolan v Billy M. I dont doubt you. But who knows if Billy M. would have improved or not. Proably not. The band was a trainwreck regardless of who was playing engineer.

I hope this answers your questions.

Shittiest? Shit Sandwitch. Kadunk dunk, thank you, thank you very much.

Seriously folks, it has been a while but I've nearly always been disappointed after buying a Munster record, Flies on Sherbert being an exception; however I wouldnt call Munster the shittiest. I think the shittiest are usually band or band-friend one-offs.

Slovenly?  I like Pete and all but his track record is not too good. Those Lolite records blow and though they are good live the Losin Streaks stuff is pretty underwhelming.

I'd take Load & ITR above Slovenly. And for the punk rock faithful, I think C-IQ has put out some really good stuff.  White Denim is also pretty good.

You can download all the Ridiculous Trio stuff at http://www.4boxs.com/page.html
The Stooges covers are actually pretty good, the highlights being Down on the Street and We Will Fall. You dont have to feel guilty about downloading it either (though I doubt any of you do feel guilt): It is a band member's website.

Officer Brad - If you are asking me what my opinion of the Wicked Wilson Pickett, well, I have to say he is probably the first person who the phrase Bad Mother Fucker fit, at least the first soul singer, though now that I think of it, Little Willie John was one Bad Mother Fucker, too.  So lets just say that Wilson Pickett was the baddest motherfucker in the Stax/Volt/Atlantic stable. And if you dont believe that then you probably havent heard the long version of Engine No. 9 or have read anything about the guy. He was not only a Bad Motherfucker but a Mean Son of a Bitch as well.  Again, I recommend Peter Guralnick's Sweet Soul Music.

If you are asking me what the Dolls would be like if Billy Murcia hadnt suffocated 32 years ago, to the day, I would have to say, probably not much different. I mean, given the fact that they were all out of control in one way or another, he would have been just one more out of control member. And, god knows if not him it could have been someone else. One reason I think not much different is because if David Johanson, Sylvain Sylvain, or Johnny Thunders would have died we would not be having this discussion.

Sweetie - If you are asking what i think of the discovery of the giant squid and the fact that we hardly know the depths of this planet's seas, I have to say hurray and boo.  I think it is totally cool that they finally got a photo of a giant squid and even cooler that the one they got is not even of a big one. But I also am like you in thinking "It is fucking 2005 and there have been how many fucking men on the moon and you are just getting around to this!" However then I think that our slack in exploring the deep is probably good because we would have fucked it all up if we'd gone on the hard look back in 1975 or so. I dunno know if you know that there is also a Coast Guard icebreaker up in the north pole hosting a bunch of scientists who are sending probes down into the deep blue and are finding the most amazing sealife Check out http://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/explorations/05arctic/logs/june27/june27.html
And another thing I was thinking while driving home from my radio show and some USC football player was talking and saying he was "anxious" to play notre dame. Dumb fuck, you are not anxious. Anxious means you are waiting with anxiety. No, you are eager to play Notre Dame. It is eager.  And one more thing, I am not a football fan but I'd pay to see Reggie Bush play. The guy might be the next walter Payton or Gayle Sayers. He is that good. If you are asking me if we have no purpose now that we have a picture of a giant squid, I say that you are being silly. Until we teach that giant squid to play Louie Louie than we still have a reason to live, a goal to strive for. As it is we still havent been able to teach dolphins Louie Louie, so I'd say you dont need to be anxious about us not having a life purpose.  You should be eager to face the future.

I hope this answers your questions.
