And as if to get in on the audiophiles-are-suckers discovery, San Francisco Symphony's general manager John Kieser has turned out 22 new LPs - remember them? - of their Mahler series as a complete set on vinyl. I can expect that before long we'll see some opportunist advertising 78 r.p.m shellac/paper/powdered-slate discs, to return to the "good old days". And yes, I assure you, the audiophiles will reach for their wallets

In fact, if you do any in depth research on the subject, and I have for fifteen years now, you will find that many of these radical youths were little more than proto-punks and engaged in the same behavior as many people on this board

Why were the West German authorities so freaked out by a bunch of guys sitting around watching re-runs of Simon & Simon and masturbating 9 times a day?

You people who are up in (rhetorical) arms about the recent (and long overdue) decline in power of the corrupt public sector unions sound scared. I like that!

Keep showing up to protests with more of the vulgar placards (that you can't resist displaying in public) in support of your assault on the taxpayers. Your actions (and those of the cowardly AWOL state Democrat party legislators... "fleebaggers" as Michelle Malkin so aptly named them) will be of further aid in guaranteeing more and more Republican party victories in the coming 2012 election (and for that I thank you!)

THE LAST MOVIE supposed has the longest delay between its opening shot and opening credit sequence of any movie ever made - something like 45 minutes.

The ad promise of "CINEMA. FROM BEGINNING...TO END....." is therefore kinda ambiguous if you think about it.

These asshole teachers (who stage a "sickout" in order to go to a protest, thus fucking up the work schedules of outraged parents who don't have time for this bullshit) are being asked to cough up an extra tiny percentage of their salary to contribute more to the cost of their own already generous health care plans and for their pension plans (the lions share of which is paid for, of course, by the beleaguered taxpayers of the state... not by Santa Claus or from Barack Obama's own pockets.) This has to be done to make up for the budget shortfall of a state government that already taxes and spend too much money in the first place. Either these teachers will pay more (and not much more at that) as a group or over five-thousand teachers (the last ones hired) will be out of a job. And no, the already overburdened state taxpayers will not stand being hosed via increased taxation of their own hard earned paychecks to cover more of the benefit costs of these selfish and greedy government employees.

Keep it up Democrats and public sector unions and watch your asses get kicked even harder at the polls come 2012. (Note: at this point it is a veritable fait accompli anyway... it will happen.)

Didn't El Duce redefine rape on one of those episodes of Wally George?  "We're only into pleasant rape, like when she's passed out on drugs..."

Conservatism in the '10s has pretty much taken the "aren't you horrified/amused by our flagrant public displays of shocking behavior?" wind out of the Mentors' (et al.) sails.

Tippet, Takeshi Kitano is a total jap.  I think the only thing he hasn't done in Japan is wrestle.

He managed Big Van Vader in New Japan '87; they caused the riot which got NJPW banned from Sumo Hall.  No foolin'!

Uneven sci-fi comedy from the director of Re-Animator. Dennis Hopper is pretty good as the aging 'independent space transport entrepreneur',, and so are some of the lowbudget FX...but OMG I hate Stephen Dorff.

PG-13 must be the most retarded rating ever. Semi-gory cheat scenes mixed with lameass dick jokes. Was this even released properly in theaters in '96?

I saw this in a preview screening; I got to fill out a score card afterwards.  "Uneven" is right.  Has Stuart Gordon ever made a good movie besides RE-ANIMATOR and FROM BEYOND?

Mention of "The Final Countdown" in the theme music thread in Pop Punk reminded me of this great promo for Music City Showdown '89.  Why isn't TNA doing stuff like this (a nine-month back-and-forth series of title matches between two heavyweights ala Flair and Steamboat, not necessarily the promo vid)?

I owe a bit less than a grand, a substantial portion of which is from the "self-employment tax," which I've got to pay on account of the vast riches I netted in freelance income - almost hit five figures in '09!  Hurrah for encouraging the American entrepreneurial spirit!

David Bordwell is the king of all academic film critics.  Read anything and everything.
Look on in horror as he places his nuts on Slavoj Zizek's chin: http://www.davidbordwell.net/essays/zizek.php

Sweet Malenko/Mysterio match right now.  Nice to see Rey without all the tattoos and knee braces, back when he could still do all the spots that made him famous.

Whoah, that fireman's-carry-onto-the-knee thing was off the hook.  Hard to believe you're watching a future WWE world champ...

What decade are you most nostalgic for and why?
1965-1975. The best of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, Van Morrison?s Astral Weeks and Moondance, and the heydey of the British Invasion. Social movements that exist offline. Reading Vonnegut in real time totally blows my mind. Also, I could chain myself to one of the beautiful Doric columns of the original Penn Station.
