The Vulgar Boatmen were latter-day Gimzo Dale Lawrence's critically acclaimed yet criminally overlook (by the buying public at least) band from the late 80s through mid 90s. Mid-western pop at its finest. Seriously. Effortless, deceptive, and catchy as hell. The music will seep into your subconscious. You'll pick up a guitar years after hearing them and write a song, then realize you blatantly ripped them off.

Total Disgust is dudes from Vacation Club who had a quality record out on Magnetic South.
ABC Gum is a new band featuring members of the Dancing Cigarettes, Cowboys, and Purple 7.

There's also a new barcade opening tomorrow right up the street with free play all night. And I think the Nutcracker is playing at the ballet. Shit gonna be wylde. Come to Bloomington and make a night of it.

Reish of previously tape-only release, out on Eleventh Hour Recording Company.

Great collection of songs from former singer of the Mice. Good mix of his more folk-sounding songs with some of the pop stuff too.
I have a few in stock, $13.50 + $4.50 shipping.

Stores around Cleave-Land have them in stock as well I am told.

Cities / Maine - what to do?

What's happening in Maine these days besides stuffing yourself with lobster?
Headed there next week for a long vacation. Got a bunch of out doorsy stuff planned. Any places worth checking out. We're starting in Portland and workin our way up the coast. Probably won't go to Bangor unless I hear of something I can't miss.
Mainely (ha!) looking for shows, record stores, places to eat, beer, art stuff, weird local attractions etc.

Landlocked Music is proud to present one of the greatest bands of all time, NRBQ, at the Player's Pub Sunday October 26.
It's the only venue in Indiana that permits dancing.
It's grandparent's weekend at IU, but bring your mom and dad too.

In case you find yourself in Indiana on this particular Sunday, for your consideration:

We are wildly excited to announce THE CLEAN will be performing at the Bishop Sunday August 17th. Yes, you read that right. The Clean, from New Zealand. Are you as surprised as we are that this is ACTUALLY HAPPENING? We can barely believe it either and we set it up!

Certainly one of the most influential bands of the past few decades, the Clean continue to put out great music to this day and their rep just keeps growing as time goes on. Think about it, are there any modern indie rock bands at all that don't wish they were the Clean? Well, the REAL DEAL, OG NZ mofos will be playing right here in Bloomington in just a few short weeks.

Seriously, this band is up there with VU and CCR in terms of shear unassailable greatness. If you are not at this show it means that you have given up on rock and roll (and probably life as well) and you should just do everyone a favor and call it quits. Really, why don't you do yourself in?
