Cities / Maine - what to do?
« on: June 17, 2017, 04:57:50 PM »
What's happening in Maine these days besides stuffing yourself with lobster?
Headed there next week for a long vacation. Got a bunch of out doorsy stuff planned. Any places worth checking out. We're starting in Portland and workin our way up the coast. Probably won't go to Bangor unless I hear of something I can't miss.
Mainely (ha!) looking for shows, record stores, places to eat, beer, art stuff, weird local attractions etc.

Worse than Pop Punk / Re: Best Exploited albums

I'd like to EXPLOIT this thread (wakka waka), but saying that we have this for sale right now in my store:
https://www.discogs.com/Exploited-Best-Of-Totally-Exploited/release/3970053
$12
In case anyone here wants to do their research before chiming in on this "discussion".

I've never consciously listened to this band, so I have no real opinion other than vague notions that they were some sort of cartoon punk thing with green mohawks etc.
Where is user Investigate when we need him/her most?

Non-Music Shit / Re: The "Christian punk" thing.

not really "PUNK" but black sabbath is my favorite xian group of all time.
Not sure if you're joking or not, but I've always thought of them in this way too. At least as far as a band, as opposed to an person, can be Christian (it can't be).

Play Bloomington, IN on that June 2 open date. It's....more or less half way to where you're going. Write me for help.

Music Shit / Re: galaxie 500 appreciation

I listened to part of a 2CD Galaxie 500 tribute album today. Some heavy hitters on there like Green Pajamas, Orange Cake Mix, Purple Ivy Shadows + other color band names I think. It was a classic working in a record store experience. The 18th Dye cover of their George Harrison cover is particularly choice.
Why is this in Worse than Pop Punk?

CA Quintet?
Member of the band had an extra sealed Candy Floss original to offer after I got beat out on an auction for one. A little over $5,000.00 for it. Considered it for a moment but decided to pass. Still, this is an all-time favorite of mine (various Sundazed editions will have to suffice.)
I own this record but I still thought you were both talking about the Cannonball Adderley Quintet. More where my head is lately.

Have you heard the recent PC Worship?

Music Shit / Re: CASSETTE CULTURE
« on: May 03, 2017, 08:44:26 PM »
Getting back to the original poster's question: cassettes and the so-called culture surrounding them...one thing that I've been thinking about lately as a record store owner is how they've largely supplanted 7''s, at least on my local scene. On the one hand, it's great, there's a lot of music coming out. On the other hand, there's a lot of music coming out...too much. Plus I love 7''s, so it sucks there are not as many. I imagine this is true in other communities.

but no one wants to buy the fuckin? things
You're absolutely right! How many CDs do you still have? You should unburden yourself really.
Let me handle them. If I pay for postage will you send them to me? If they are in even halfway decent shape, let me lighten your load.

Cassettes, and all other physical formats for that matter, are doomed and nearly worthless. You should sell them all to me while you can. Get out now!

This picture will forever make me smile, it's what punk rock looks like to me.
