Today I enjoyed:
the new Maria Violenza 7" (she's very underrated);
Circuit Des Yeux's Reaching for Indigo (finally managed to snatch it on vinyl);
the old Humpty Dumpty LSD comp by the Butthole Surfers (I always manage to forget about some small genius demo track);
the first Rakta LP (maybe still their best; now perhaps they're more adventurous, but I miss the catchier parts).

Drum Machine is the lineup of Folded Shirt, but with Richard replacing Alessandro.

I don't know who Richard is but I'm stoked nonetheless.

What's the Richard Papiercuts 12"?

Also revisiting The EPs Of R.P., which is unfuckwithable; coupled with my normal go-to Death Church, pretty tough to beat.  The slide is pretty severe after that though, at least in my opinion.

Give Cacophony another chance.

Absolutely in love with the new Hot Snakes. Maybe the only band who could really make rock'n'roll sound Y2K in the middle of all the revivalists, and they still got it!

I started with Los Llamarada's The Exploding Now! which is still a great record in its right, and to think that at the time I'd dismissed them as some shit-fi band who had no songs. The songs are very much there and this LP is gonna get more spins in the future now that I bought it for cheap from a Termbro.

Uniform, No Trending still going strong. It sounds so familiar.

Now the wine and the girl problems got to me and I put on Psychic TV's Pagan Day because that's what you need to do sometimes. How great is this? The older I grow the more I realize that stealing other people's music truly is an art form.

I?ve only listened to three songs on the new Hank Wood but it sounds better than what I remember of their second LP.

Also, I keep getting distracted at the thought that it sounds like he?s delivering some lines doing a Tupac impression.

his sometimes ultramagnetic-esque delivery is the best thing about the hammerheads, imo. On first listen I like this one a lot more than the last lp, the production makes a huge difference.

I am bummed it's not titled Phone Home or something to keep the gag running

A++ title idea. And yeah his delivery/intonation is a big part of the magic - probably one of the best live shows I've ever attended too. Top 5 at least.

I think the first time I saw 'em was at a secret 2 AM show at 529 here and it was very incredible. They are devastating live.

Stoked to see them again in april. Really loving how loud and prominent the guitars are on this record.

I think they're one of those bands where the key is seeing them in a small venue/after hours setting. First saw them right after the LP got hot in Rochester in a smallish room with tons of Rotcore mutants rioting with bouncers and dancing/falling over, Henry was mid-crowd the whole time and it might have been the most perfect "punk" show I've ever been at.

Later times seeing them after/around the second LP in big rooms/fest atmosphere they were a little underwhelming. But I dont think any band could live up to that first show.

I've only seen them once and it was this show. It was a weekday show where people had come from all over the area and wanted to go to bed early, and for some reason it was taking them a while to set up, so the energy in the room was kind of "you'd better fucking deliver because it's late". And as soon as they started to play we could tell it would be one of the best nights ever. You can see it in the video above, the start of the set. They proceeded to play every song they knew for 1+ hour because we wouldn't let them leave. That's a show you don't forget!

Demo Tape / Re: ISS / NORTH CAROLINA HOUSE PUNK

Hi Rich, I sent you a PM on this thing a few days ago, don't know if you've seen it. Couldn't find an email.

Now playing: Hartle Road, Maxx. Weird thing I picked up because a friend recommended it (granted, he also sold it to me). Since I've never heard or read about it I'll try to talk about it a little bit. It's really hard to describe but I guess it's a bit of a "bedroom" thing with spacey leanings, made in Mississippi. Very low key, feels self-produced and self-released. Some of it would probably be pretty comfortable in a Homework comp, but some of it wouldn't. The first time I've listened to it I described it as "what I'd like Heavy Metal [the band] to sound like". All over the place but song-based; quirky but not shticky; they wear their influences on their sleeve, yet in a garbled mess; it has the free spirited approach of a record made just because you were having fun with the machines, and you feel like a fly on the wall of this young, messy and talented band from nowhere who doesn't really care about having a style or making a record for that matter. It also features at least one solid hit – side A closer "Garbage Wizard" – which is always nice.

I also got Uniform's No Trending and finally got to listen to it properly. It's one of those records you wish there were more of, very personal and original. I'd put it in the same category as Pink Reason's Shit In The Garden and Richard Papiercuts' "If" (I know it feels weird because they're on here but I can't think of other examples at the moment and they already know I'm a fan), a true work of creativity that doesn't need the crutches of a genre, a style, a trend; just pure expression. Shit's cool.

PERVERTS AGAIN- Friday Night Light LP out today
Lace up your boots and get in line because Perverts Again are back with brand new marching orders, and they've got punks most lovable mascot front and center leading the way.  An 8 song study on judgemental video store clerks, sex offenders, high school football, and Billy Joel amongst other subjects.  Perverts Again continue in the fine tradition of strange mutated Cleveland punk. Trudging, repetitive, sarcastic, and funny without being overly goofy. Dumb in the smartest imaginable way.  Self-described as Eminem fronting Crueslter and if that?s the case they are the best thing to happen to rap-rock since the Judgement Night Soundtrack. 100% TOTAL PUNK!

We have a special limited edition version of the album which includes a second pressing of the 160 page novelization of the Friday Night Light with a brand new cover

That Beta Blockers on Static Shock is a great compendium of noisy, feedback-drenched, manic hardcore with slow creepy parts. Sounds like if the Butthole Surfers were on Iron Lung. No it doesn't, the sober part of my brain tells me. But you get what I mean.
