Music Shit / Re: LOU REED/METALLICA ALBUM

He failed at just about every pretentious art slant he attempted.  His good solo albums are accidentally good, and you laugh at least once or twice every couple songs.

Sorry to be another person dragging up Eric's assessment here, but this bit still seems pretty spot on. I just listened to this Metallilou stuff and I laughed at least once or twice every couple songs (more than that actually. As soon as Lou came in on Pumping Blood I did a spit take). This shit's too funny.

Can't believe no one's said this yet...

Laser Floyd at the Seattle Center

Go to the funhouse, drink some beers, then find some 13 year old kid to sell you acid his parents made and go trip balls while watching lasers dart around a room while Pink Floyd music plays loudly. Welcome to the machine, brah.

Cities / Re: Oakland Info?
« on: September 19, 2011, 02:58:19 PM »
and also, don't look in the piedmont area. I think the area that Ablodingleberry was thinking of is Piedmont ave, which is considered part of north oakland/temescal. The actual piedmont area is up towards the hills and has more akin to kensington and moraga... cool to live in if you like having deer run through your yard and you have a good car with a top notch set of brakes.

And, to rephrase what Icki said in a way that I agree with, I don't see any difference in prices between apartments located in the good neighborhoods of oakland and sf, the difference is in square footage. Oakland's good to move to if you need a decent amount of space in your home, already are familiar with the area, and already know people here. Otherwise, if you like having conveniences like places that stay open late near you and some semblance of a night life, go for sf. If you're seeing cheap places in oakland, chances are it's gonna be in a mild-to-seriously rough neighborhood and if you're not thick-skinned about such things you could regret living there.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Van rental help/advice....fuck!
« on: September 14, 2011, 05:41:47 PM »
thanks rick and bruce - we'll hear tomorrow from the mechanic...if it's fucked we'll just have to ditch it and hire a van, looks like we can get one for abut $1500 through Budget..probably better than buying one right now.

that's with every insurance offer you could find plus gps a gunrack machine gun turrets and a fog horn, right? Otherwise, that's about twice as much as you should be paying for 13 days at $60 a day. I looked and for picking up at SFO and dropping off at JFK (not sure what airport you're actually flying out of, I just guessed at something), Rick's estimate was spot on. Look here: http://www.carrentals.com. It tends to be cheapest if you pick up/drop off at airports.

I watched it with firefox on my linux system, looks and sounds crystal clear, no jittering.

using firefox, running on linux, sound is fine, widescreen is fine, picture is "jittery" but i think the problem is with the linux, because netflix and hulu are as well

How do you even get Netflix to play at all? I gave up my account cuz the netflix player isn't linux compatible. I'll tell ya how to stop the jittering if you tell me how to get the netflix player going.

Forbes hates Sacramento. Sacto was awarded 6th place in America's Worst Cities For Finding A Job.

Also noteworthy about this gem: massive cookie duster alert and the perplexing drum kit featuring the double bass drum set-up. Can't imagine that ever came close to being necessary in Exile. Not sure I'm with ya on the staring observation though, at least with kraftwerk there was a sense of humor behind it, this is just... creepy.

Y'all need to man up

I need to 'man up' to listen to Tempted?  That counters my intuition, brother.  I think this is a preference deal, and Tempted sucks.  Lots of songs suck, but those're my top have to change the station songs.

Haha, that was funny and made sense... 2 things that seem rare around here nowadays.

Ha, Tempted rules. This threads resurgance has shown how sensitive this new population of termbo is. I like that Waterfall song too. Y'all need to man up, or at least come out from under that rock where Waterfall and Tempted are the worst songs you're exposed to. There's a whole world of garbage out there ready and waiting to drive you out of your mind. Or at least park your ass in front of an Eagles record for a few good hours and realize I was right all along and that Hotel California is THE most hated song ever. Glad Dulce quoted my post before I deleted it.

Oh no, I'm almost afraid to ask what you think the best bar in the universe is. Neither Jonells or the Brown Jug are on Howard.... um, surely not the Chieftain or Temple Nightclub...

That 1st question (?) was in a dialect of english that I'm unfamiliar with, but if you're offering me advice on where to go to pay for sex, I think I'm better off not knowing. Thanks anyway.

You guys are doing a good job of selling the place, especially with this, "there's always a job you can bitch about until you get one you don't." That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for.

I've been there before on tours and with family but in both those situations you get such a limited view of a city... an inside of a bar and possibly the inside of someone's home. Helps to get other opinions.
