Music Shit / Re: ECSR
« on: April 04, 2010, 02:26:13 PM »
Got "PC" first after all the praise they got. I wasn't and still am not impressed by that record. It's good but I don't get the hype.
I bought the first LP cheap 2 months ago and I'm digging that one a whole lot better. Some really great songs on that record (Yo-yo man / Having a hard time / It's all square / ... ).
Allthough I'm still not 100 % down with ECSR I'm curious to hear "Rush to relax".

if you haven't heard cold sweat try and get ahold of the blinded lp. one of the best hardcore records of 2000s and was seriously overlooked by EVERYONE. great band.

So true. Never liked the Severed Ties 12" much but Blinded is fantastic. Such a great record, top notch production and it sounds so awesomely aggro and vicious. Destined to be an overlooked classic.

Today:
- MONSTER MAGNET dopes to infinity CD (Their best record!)
- NACHTMYSTIUM assassins LP (Not a metalhead at all but I love this album. Black metal Pink Floyd. Stoked to see them coming mondaynight.)
- IMAAD WASIF the voidist LP (Hard to describe what is sounds like but this record is a grower. Gets better with listening. One of the better latest releases on Tee Pee Records.)
- PINKEYE worldwide columbine 12" (With Damian Fucked Up on vocals. Good shit and on par with their single.)
- M.O.TO. single file 2xLP (Arrived recently and this is the first listening session. No complaints so far.)

Both records are overrated. They're not bad but no real gems either.

- BLACK SABBATH sabotage LP
Classic material. Not one band has ever topped their first 6 superb albums in a row. "Hole in the sky" ranks with their best songs.

- THE JAM setting sons LP
This record was my introduction to The Jam. Still a great LP and probably my favourite record of The Jam. Highlights are "Eton rifles" and "Private hell". P. Weller is king!

- BAXTER DURY len parrot's memorial gift LP
Son of Ian Dury. This is his first solo-album & definitely his best work. The second one is different and great too but misses the Ziggy Stardust-vibe of this LP.

- SEAWEED bill ep 12"
I love the titletrack but it's a real shame that the 2 songs on the b-side are pretty worthless. Great band nevertheless.

i think the list of kurts favorite albums is better than nirvana

Total truth! No wonder that the best songs on the "Unplugged" album are all covers.

Never cared for Nirvana (not then and not now) but "Bleach" isn't all that bad. Some great songs on it. Nirvana were definitely one of the weakest bands of the whole grunge-area. Tad f.e. was and still is way underrated. Love that band.

Music Shit / Re: Reggae / Rocksteady fans sound off here! (A list)

Another thing to note is that sometimes the comp tracks are super killer and then the LPs are not as great. I have a MOJO ROCKSTEADY comp on Studio One that has some killer Gay Lads vocal tracks, but the "Golden Sunshine" album doesn't deliver in the same way (though I still like it).

I totally agree. That's the reason why I almost only buy reggae-comps and practically never albums by the artist himself. These 2 are one of the best:

COMETS ON FIRE blue cathedral LP
Good record allthough I like "Avatar" the most. I prefer more "song" and less spaced out psych/fuzz.

DUST hard attack LP
Nice album with some great tracks but with some shittier ones too. More hardrock compared to their better debut. Feat. Marky Ramone on drums.

LEONARD COHEN songs from a room LP
Busted this one out because of the recent topic on this board. Definitely one of his best records.

Saw him a year and a half ago. All accoustic. Really laidback vibe throughout the set. Funny and witty guy. Hardly any Modern Loverssongs (1 or 2) but it was entertaining to say the least.

Cities / Re: Cool shit in Frankfurt/Berin?

I suppose you mean Berlin?!

You can find some addresses of record stores on this website: http://www.discogs.com/groups/topic/86400

Following three aren?t mentioned and are worth a visit:
- Static Shock Record Shop (just opened at the end of 2009): http://www.myspace.com/500553171

- Bis Aufs Messer: www.bisaufsmesser.com/ (All new stuff and a wide selection).

- Alien Snatch Records is located in Berlin. You can took a look on the website (www.aliensnatch.de/), e-mail your order to Daniel and you can pick it up at his place.

Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg and Kreuzberg are the coolest neighbourhoods imo. All located in East-Berlin. Tons of bars, restaurants and shops. Big fleamarket on Sunday in Friedrichshain. There?s a free magazine (it?s called ZITTY if I?m not mistaken => http://www.zitty.de/) in every bar that contains all the dates of parties, concerts and more throughout the city. Pick that up and you?ll get around.
Public transport is well organised but rent a bike when the weather is nice.

I?ve never been to Frankfurt so I can?t help you there.

I can't believe that no one has bought that VEE DEE 2xLP. 10$ is a steal for the best record of 2009!

the first 3 records are hella good!

Agreed! Been on a P.I.L.-kick lately. "Second edition" and "Album" in constant rotation the last weeks.

Still got Radios Appear. It's still there sitting on the shelf waiting to blow my mind, but I can think of at least fiifteen Australian bands I like way way better

Please list 15 Australian bands better than Radio Birdman. I'm not an Aussie-expert, but I can't think of any Australian band better than RB.
