« on: March 29, 2014, 01:47:00 PM »
New Predator L.P. "The Complete Earth" out now! Hit me up at ornetteflesh@yahoo.com for copies...first release on State Laughter Records....joint release with Scavenger Of Death who you can also get the record from along with numerous other greater Atlanta releases.

I dont think anyone has posted this yet.  http://leatherphiladelphia.bandcamp.com/ New Leather LP is finally coming out.

Excited for both releases! And I do hope that Leather LP will be pressed by some label whatsoever.

Cities / UK: Nottingham + Newcastle.
« on: February 22, 2014, 01:02:15 PM »
I will be in Nottingham on the 7th and 8th of March and I will be in Newcastle on the 9th of March. I've got the record stores covered but I would like to have some more info about where to go in those cities when you have so little time?

What are the cooler neighbourhoods, cool shops or any other things to do or visit? And what's the best place to experience Nottingham's nightlife on a Saturday night?

Thanks in advance once again!

Ordered the Gutter Gods LP too (via Hardware Records). The 2 songs I heard on soundcloud sounded very, very promising!

Got the Mercenary demo on Scavenger Of death in the mail and listened to it last night. What a rager! Normally not my bag at all but this one goes so hard that I can't ignore it. Excellent production too!

His Electro Blue Voice, "Ruthless sperm".

Bought this at their show the other day. I'd really like to write something of a certain length about the show and the record, and maybe I will, but first I've got to spin this a few times more. I think they were great live: raw, somehow amateurish (it may have been their second show ever, and with a different bassist and drummer from the records) and punk as fuck. Not what I, or everybody else I think, expected at all. I think that with the whole Sub Pop thing people were expecting to see a very different band, and many were disappointed by their low profile and their straightforward stage presence - but I was mesmerized. They deliver a stripped down, ugly and brutal version of what is in their records: the boredom, the loneliness and the alienation of the foggy northern italian small town they come from. The opening chords of "Duuug" hit me like a brick. All my friends hated them.

The record too is a surprise: very diverse and way less monolithic in comparison to their earlier efforts. The quiet moments are disturbing and tasteful. As usual, their "epic" moments and the unmistakably ESL vocals/lyrics leave an awkward aftertaste, but I can totally get behind that, as I see it as part of the dark, squalid scenarios they paint with their music. There are no feel good hits for any season in this platter.

Great record! Bought it 2 weeks ago so I haven't had the time to take it all in but so far I like it a lot. Different vibe and production compared to the one Bat Shit-single I have.
Same weird combination as Condominium with Sub Pop but it worked for both bands!

I wish there were legit repros or even KBD-style bootleg comps of this stuff, cause even though there's a lot out there it doesn't get reissued much at all.

You've seen this?

Cities / Re: BRUSSELS, where to go?
« on: November 06, 2013, 10:13:28 AM »
The centre of Brussels is not that big and there's plenty to see, eat, drink and find within walking distance. All things mentioned above can be done walking so no need to take the subway. All these places are not far from the Stock Exchange (La Bourse / De Beurs), so take that one as your starting place.

"Anspachlaan / Rue Anspach" is the big central road where the Stock Exhange is located. On this road you'll find:

- Record shop "Juke Box" (see above)
- Record shop "Caroline Music" (expensive!) => https://www.facebook.com/carolinemusic.bsides
- Restaurant "Jour de Fete" (retro interior, good food) => http://jour-de-fete.be/
- Pele Mele (they sell mostly second hand books but there's a vinyl section too (new and 2nd hand)) => http://pelemeleoccases.be/nl/ms/ms/brussel-1000/ms-115612-st-45382/

Just around the corner of the street where "Veals and Geeks" is located, you'll find a big white building where "Fontainas" is located (Kolenmarkt 91). Nice place for a small lunch or drink. Lots of other places to eat or drink around too and a small shop only selling erotic books and porn a bit further.

The best dive (rock)bar of Brussels is DNA (Platte Steen 18-20). Not too far from the Stock Exchange and a lot of concerts take place there too. Lots of other bars in the neighbourhood too.
=> https://www.facebook.com/DnaIsDeadLongLiveDna

"Moka" is a small coffeebar but one of the best in the city. Very cool interior and a friendly (female) owner. Located in the "Rijkeklarenstraat" and close to bar DNA.
=> http://www.barmoka.be/

"Sint-Katelijneplein" is worth visiting too. Big nightlife there and loads of restaurants and bars. You'll also find "Madame Moustache" there. They often book good concerts there and there are always danceparties every night. Bit of a hipstervibe but still a cool place to hang out.
=> http://www.madamemoustache.be/

If you like antiques and art galleries, you must go to the neighbourhood called "De Zavel". Not far from the trainstation called "Brussel-Centraal". A Taschen-bookstore can be found there too. If you go further down the road (in the direction of the palace of justice (Justitiepaleis / Palais de Justice), you'll enter the neighbourhood called "De Marollen" with his (in)famous "Vossenplein". This is a big open space where you'll have a flea market every day. Lots of cosy bars and places to eat around.

This is all in the centre of Brussels. You can take a subway to other parts of the city but I'm not familiar with most of them. Anyway, all things mentioned here should keep you busy enough for the time you'll be there.

Small remark: Brussels is a weird city! It can be rude and harsh and people aren't always that friendly. And some parts are almost ghettos where you don't need to go. You definitely have an advantage if you speak French. Some people really hate this place but I love it! But I agree that this city isn't for everyone.

Cities / Re: BRUSSELS, where to go?
« on: November 05, 2013, 01:32:53 PM »
Will be there from upcoming Friday till Sunday (08-10.11).
Heard about some Pub called Delirium and Veals and Geeks record store.
Would love to hear about good (not to expensive) restaurants, and see some (modern) art maybe, also some music would be nice!
Thanks Brusselians!

Food:

Ellis Burger => http://www.ellisgourmetburger.com/nl/brussel
Lots of other good restaurants in the neighbourhood (De Markten f.e.). Go from there to the Stock Exhange (De Beurs / La Bourse) via the street "Rue Antoine Dansaert" and you'll find plenty of places to eat and drink.

A bit further but worth dining is Houtsiplou: http://www.houtsiplou.be/
Their burgers and fries are the best but the rest of the card is delicious too.

Regarding music:

There's always http://www.recordshops.org/ for most info. But visit also Elektrocution (Rue des Pierres - https://myspace.com/elektrocutionrecordshop) and 72 Records (https://www.facebook.com/pages/72-Records/444396545598944). Both are in the same neighbourhood together with "The Collector" and "Veals and Geeks". All worth visiting. And around those stores there are plenty of places to eat for not too much money.
"Juke Box" has a lot to offer too but prices are way too high.
=> http://thewordmagazine.com/music/belgiums-best-record-shops/

Don't know anything about art or museums but I'll try to lookfor some more info before Friday.
