Music Shit / Re: Best 2013 Lps
« on: November 05, 2013, 11:58:01 AM »
Off the top of my head:

Band of the year is without a doubt Una Bestia Incontrolable: great demo and a terrific LP! Best hc/punk-album of 2013 imo. Latino & Spanish hc/punk has been dropping so much good stuff in 2013 and in the past recent years.

I surprisingly loved the new Night Marchers LP a lot. Easily the best thing John Reis has done since "Scream dracula scream".

Loved the new albums of The Feeling Of Love and Milk Music. I'm still not sure if I like them better than their previous ones but it could very well be.

New Iceage is a lot better than their debut and "Honeys" by Pissed Jeans is not their best but still a top tenner for me.

I was disappointed by the new Human Eye LP but how could they possibly top a monster like "They came from the sky". B- at best.
Same feeling for the Dream Decay LP. Promising 12" but their new couldn't convince me.

Destruction Unit were a monster live but the LP falls short compared to their liveshow.

Terrific interview! Hats off to both Richie and Jordan for putting so much effort in it!

Circuit Rider LP - meh...

Huh. I don't think I've ever encountered anybody that knows & doesn't like that record, though it does have some weak points. Seems like a no-brainer if you're at all into campy, over-the-top vocalists a la Kim Fowley though (I am).

The problem with the Circuit Rider LP is that "Just for today" is such a hit and all the other songs are nowhere on that same level. I too agree with Mitch on this one.

That made me laugh pretty hard.   I remember now that one of the shows I saw them at was opening for Nebula.  All I remember about Nebula was they had this gigantic Gong behind the drum kit and I kept wondering why the fuck they had it up there... but then about 30-40 minutes into their set, they took it down real quiet like and the drummer turned around and banged it once really loud. Boooooonnnng!  Massive applause and cheering ensues!!  I'm so glad I was never actually seriously into stoner rock...

I've been into stonerrock and I saw Nebula the same period with the big gong and that show still remains one of the best shows I've ever seen. Small club, totally packed and Nebula absolutely killing it. A fantastic night!

Saw them 2 times after that but never on the same level as then. Still, Eddie Glass is a fantastic guitar player and he's always fun to watch live. Plus Nebula had more of a Stooges-vibe compared to the other stonerrockbands who were all going for the obvious Sabbath-vibe.

Always dug The Cherry Valence. Fun live and even the follow-up Birds Of Avalon were pretty good live and on record.

Yes, Split and Thank Christ for The Bomb are monster LPs!

The 2 albums you should buy first if you want to get into The Groundhogs!
"Cherry red" of the Split LP is their "hit" and Earthless from San Diego always cover that song in their live set (but always with their own jammed & freaked out twist) . I believe they've put it out on record too.

I'm only familiar with the recent stuff:

My 4 favourites:

BLANK REALM - go easy
KITCHEN'S FLOOR - look forward to nothing
THE MANTLES - s/t
PUFFY AREOLAS - in the army 1981

Others I like a lot:

DER TPK - games for slaves
PSYCHEDELIC HORSESHIT - magic flowers droned
MOUNT CARMEL - s/t
HANK IV - refuge in genre

Lately I'm getting more and more convinced that this is the best record ever that the 60ties have offered us.

This evening:

JOHN KONGOS - kongos LP (Superb artwork, record is pretty bland safe for some tracks: "tokoloshe man", "lift me from the ground" and "he's gonna step on you again".)

THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN - hollywood dream LP (Great chill-out album for late evenings. Lovely lay-out too in its own weird way!)

NERVE CITY i fucked death. 10" (I just read that a new LP is on the way so I decided to give this one another spin. Still great!)

And thanks to user "fever trip" for the heads up regarding Dreamsalon. Loved the Evening Meetings LP so I'll listen to Dreamsalon's bandcamp next!

Music Shit / Re: Recent Acquisitions
« on: October 04, 2013, 09:23:28 AM »
Had a great week of purchases! On a local flea market, an acquaintance of mine was selling some stuff from his personal collection. I bought:

- SCIENTISTS rubber never sleeps 2xLP
- PINK FAIRIES bunch of sweeties LP (reissue)
- THE HOWLING HEX wilson semiconductors LP
- THE BOYS NEXT DOOR the lost and brave ... LP
- THE WITCHES a haunted person's guide to LP

All together for 40 euros which struck me as a very good deal!

And yesterday and the day before I visited 2 (mostly second hand) stores close to work where I hadn't been in months. I found the following items:

- VERVE the verve ep 12" (new)
- RONDOS destroy the entertainment (new and only 7 euros in the cut-out bin)
- ALAN VEGA debut LP
- THE LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH debut LP
- SCORPIONS in trance LP
- GEORGE HARRISON all things must pass 3xLP

Been a long time since I had some scores like that!

music and video exchange

Love this chain of record stores!
When I was in London 2 years ago, I hit up 3 of them and scored 3/4 of all my purchases there. I love the fact that they lower their prices the longer an item stays in the store.

Didn't check the youtubies so forgive me when it was already posted. But first song that came to my mind was DEAD MOON - walking on my grave.
