"an elliptical confirmation of the other tracks? elliptical suggestions and, for better or worse, a tad more familiar a tad sooner. When you can hear them, Sullivan?s lyrics are geometrical, geological, new-agey without the benefit of bath salts ? completing circles and the like ? but they work best as thematic fenceposts, or promises empty-until-colored."

Great interview.  Wotta visionary!  Punk as fukk.

This is my favorite video of his:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YqURBx3Btw

So goddamn weird.  He looks and sounds like Beefheart ca. '74.

It has a richer, famous sister with less homo physique

For goodness' sake, oblige it with some Termbo insights

"I wouldn?t expect a dude in Los Angeles or Chicago to understand or appreciate this record as much as me, a girl in New York, who sees Vivian Girls pumping the lifeblood of my city?s longstanding underground musical traditions. Those dudes didn?t see Vivian Girls close down McCarren Park Pool with Sonic Youth in 2008; they didn?t thrash around to their set during the final months of legendary Bushwick venue Market Hotel?s activity in 2010.......... do you understand New York music? How do you not see this as an important piece in its lineage? Do you like The Ramones and Shangri-Las anymore, bro? Or only Odd Future?"

Music Shit / Re: Acid Folk recommendations ala VIRGIN INSANITY

I haven't heard of Virgin Insanity until now but from what i've heard, Ithaca http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxotrMjgPIE and Agincourt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbLGsUqghEk&feature=related dovetail wonderfully.

The Serpent Power's S/T is a acid?/psych folk masterpiece with a bluesy leaning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MirzSuEXxl4 . I venture to say their S/T is essential when you discuss the psych folk of that era. I only recommend it provided you bear SF hippie-beat poet types. I relate them to Fifty Foot Hose for some reason. Locust released their much more instinctive/improvised stuff years back. It's also worth checking out.

Erica Pomerance's You Used To Think On ESP-Disk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aoWTgK3fF0 if you look for a visceral/ecstatic/cathartic side of female psych folk. excellent album.

Glad to see Dreamies mentioned. Great but not so folky. They might be the forefather of Olivia Tremor Control.

http://speedguru.blog45.fc2.com/ is an authority on acid folk. However, the albums reviewed on that blog are pretty random.

Demo Tape / The Peelies
« on: April 28, 2010, 04:03:19 AM »

a scrumptious all-girl band from montreal with cute looks. i dig them.

http://www.myspace.com/peelies

The Raincoats and Snatch(Judy Nylon + Patty Palladin) references are spot on, however they're drenched in a fresh west-coast vibe and some french thing's going on in it.

simply this vid tells it like it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlq1ZgeNols&feature=player_embedded#at=194

also their blog http://peelies.tumblr.com/ is amusing. these girls got a taste.

maybe soon to be signed to captured tracks?..

anybody seen them live?
