Apparently, the Recurd Nurd Lord hath smiled upon me today and given me payback in spades for having to go to work on a Saturday... walked through the Ashby flea market on my way home - found a table where a guy was selling some pretty good r&b/soul, etc 45s for 50-cents a pop and picked up almost 40 of 'em (nothing particularly rare, but awesome stuff none'd'less - Bo Diddley, Mysterians...). THEN, passed another spot where a guy had a couple boxes of 45s - realllllllllll good stuff. It was late in the day and he walks up and says me he doesn't feel like packing stuff up, so everything was free. Shit!!! Psych, nuggets-style, soul, a ton of girl group gems (a TON of stuff i never heard of that is a.m.a.z.z.z.z.i.n.g!): The Montanas, Standells, Amboy Dukes, Mary Wells, Bob Gaddy, Maxine Brown, Mary Wells, Inex & Charlie Foxx, Julie Stevens, Preston Epps (Bongo Rock!), The Yellow Balloon, Otis Redding, Small Faces, Solomon Burke, The Tams, Freddy Cannon, Duane Eddy, Lisa Rey, The Carter Brothers, Ritchie Hart... and a whole lot more. Fucking FANTASTIC score - came home with over 150 records and only 17 bux poorer!!!!

i was going to chime in about how good they were when i saw them, but just realized that that was probably about 13 years ago. heard that one of the more recent times they played in portland, though, they did an almost 2-hour long set which included a ton of black flag covers. so, you got to hand it to them for still having fun and not just going through the motions.

Well, specifically in regard to buying and flipping new, limited run releases - it makes the records even more unavailable. If a label puts out 300 copies of a Johnny & the Dumdums 45, 400 fans want it but 50 of those people buy 2 or 3 copies each to flip on eBay a month later as "unplayed"... that's shitty. Totally different if you find some forgotten gem in the bins and want to sell it.

Went to a wedding a year or two ago where the maid of honor gave a speech about how she once got so trashed once and hooked up with a random dood while on her period, and was so drunk she forgot to take out her tampon before intercourse. She knew (the bride) was going to be her best friend forever when (the bride) told her the next morning to take her pants off and lay down on the kitchen floor while (the bride) got a flashlight to... well, you get where this is going. Needless to say, family members couldn't get out of the room quick enough during that speech.

i just didnt feel like talking all this shit at the time, i said no and thought that should be good enough.  the fact that after seeing us play his idea of giving me shit was to ask if i know how to play an e minor or b 7th chord was telling enough, yeah i can play those and a million other chords, and play joe satrianis summer song, whats your fucking point? 

the odds of some indie rock hipster kid showing me a new lick or technique i have never thought of before are about one in a million, plus i told him flat out i didnt care if he was the best guitar player in the universe, i still wasnt gonna jam with him.

i'd think the kid would've just dropped it after hearing for the 7th or 8th time that you were on the cover of mrr?
