still have some probes. my favorite issue was ripped to bits by my ex-girlfriend - somehow it got dragged into a fight as porn. she was right though, it was the best issue as far as naked and half naked women went.

where is aaron? it was fun reading about his drunken adventures and girlfriend reviews + the ramifications of the the reviews! i fiigure he got married to the last girl he met, hopefully she got him on the straight and narrow before he exploded his liver.

reading the probe was like missing out on the show/girls/adventure/whatever but that's ok because aaron went and would spill the details on everything for you.

one of the best films ever made.

Listen, you fuckers, you screwheads. Here is a man who would not take it anymore. A man who stood up against the scum, the cunts, the dogs, the filth, the shit.

Here is a man who stood up.

this sport rules! i'm old so i've been watching forever. used to take the kung fu when i was a kid and there was always rumors in the class about no rules fighting tournaments - then they finally had one, ufc 1! sumo vs savate, jiu-jitsu vs toughest guy at the bar, etc.

the best was this little skinny guy, royce gracie, and you would think that he was going to get murdered by some huge brawler but instead he would break the dudes arm or choke him out and he won.

it was a real eye opener in the martial arts world. his cousin (i think) renzo had an interview on the radio - by black belt magazine i believe - and he was asked about the current martial arts establishment being skeptical about brazilian jiu-jitsu, he just invited anyone who had any questions to come on down to his school in new york and get their ass kicked!

if you haven't, definately check out pride fighting on dvd. it's dead as an org now but in its day many considered it to be better than the ufc. the rule set allowed for kicks and knees to the downed opponent and the fights were held in a boxing type ring. the japanese fans went bananas and the whole thing was maybe even more of a spectacle than the current ufc if you can believe it.

The tunes, the lyrics and the sentiment on songs like Where Are They Now?, Take Em All, Chip On Your Shoulder, etc. are top notch - maybe too good.

But the Rejects really put the boot in. Tracks like Where the Hell is Babylon? and War on the Terraces have that extra helping of STOMP that really delivers when you're in a pinch.

I'd like to thank my mum and dad
They gave me the best times that I ever had
And my mates who believed me when I was in school
I had the last laugh - Fuck you all!

Music Shit / Re: SERIOUS RECORD COLLECTOR: STORIES FROM THE TRENCHES
« on: December 17, 2010, 12:26:01 PM »
Good Score:
Early (mid?) 90's and my girlfriend gives me a gift certificate for $20 for the local record store. I head on over and they tell me that they've moved all the vinyl to a storefront down the street because fuckin cds are taking over.
So when I get there there is still the usual sections - rock/punk/jazz/world and so on but there are also 5 or 6 big boxes of 7 inchers at the front of the store. When I ask the clerk if I can check them out he tells me they're backstock clearance 10 cents a piece.
You already know where I'm going with this bullshit, as I flip through hundreds of ep's with no pic sleeves I'm determined to pull out anything with a pic sleeve that looks remotely punk. Pulled 2 Maids, a John Vomit and Leather Scabs, Avengers crucifix sleeve, both Insults, Eyes TAQN, + some others like the Nerves, Units, Dead Boys and a few more I cant remember all near mint.
Then when I brought the stack up he tallies them up and its like $1.80 so I give him my gift certificate and he says c'mon man I dont want to have to go through the hassle of re-writing your gift certificate, you can have the records.
Traded or sold away everything except the Eyes.
Obviously it was the John Vomit 7" that was the big score but when I put it on the turntable I knew it had to go. Imagine what else was in there. I remember passing on more than a few new wavy looking ep's I had never heard of and I didnt even really look at the hundreds of no pic sleevers.

Dodgy Score:
Used to go to Rough Trade on Haight and the lady would let me look through the new stuff under the counter. One time she tells me to hang on for a few minutes and when her co-worker leaves she pulls 6-7  Rock o Rama Skrewdriver LPs out of the garbage and asks me if I want them. She had just bought them from a skin, then her manager saw them and without saying a word he picked them up and threw them in the trash - "so just take them out of here for free".

Non Scores:
I passed up a red sleeved Minor Threat Filler 7" for $5 in the late 90's at the local store because I didn't really need it...had the cassette tape back in rotation. (stupid non-collecting phase)

Passed on an Agent Orange Bloodstains 7" for $15 at Epicenter right before it closed down for good because I only had $20 on me and wanted a super burrito ($7).

Got It Wrong Score:
Bought both Agent Orange (Holland) ep's - Your Mother Sucks and VD for $15 bucks then decided that the Your Mother Sucks was the shittier one so I sold it back for couple bucks (mid 90's). Still think the VD 7" is better but have come to appreciate the Your Mother ep now that I don't have it.

the best thing to do when it's live is check out the flailings for as long as you can stand it then head outside for a smoke and other festivities. then just fucking keep up the pretenses as usual.
even when they tell you that they know you didn't even go in you just have to stay with it -  nope, you're right i didn't make it in! but i still think you stomped it! everyone i talked to was super stoked! great set, are those new songs! when's the new record coming out! here, have a beer! can i bum a smoke! kiiiiiiiillllller!

the good thing is - there are no bad live bands after 8 or 10 beers.
just drink until it sounds good!

records/tapes/cd's... that's tougher because they give it to you and God forbid if you have to listen to it right then.
it sounds good in theory to just say hang em up you guys blow but in reality it's pretty tough to tell someone they suck.
stylistically, musically, politically, artistically suck.

i've made a tidy profit by selling myself the same record over and over.

looking through friends trade/sale 7" stack and there was a hand drawn sleeve with a cd-r in it?
when i asked about it he says oh yea it's a killer just go ahead and take it i sold the orig and made that.
i guess that all of the information to re-create the vinyl and sleeve using a 3D printer could just be kept on a chip and there is your collection.

sorry for the ridiculous post. had a little too much of the old gin, wine and beer last night!
