well it is nice to see the level of discourse here is about as it was when i last checked in 3 years ago.

last week really proved...that the old boy may be barely breathing...but the heart of rock and roll is still beating (in cleveland...detroit!)

DAN MELCHIOR'S BROKE REVUE
"O, Clouds Unfold!"
Gatefold 2XLP

Out now:
http://www.hookorcrook.com/

Finally, Dan Melchior?s lost masterpiece is ready for release.  After putting out two highly acclaimed albums for In the Red Records in 2001-2002, Dan wanted to branch out and explore new angles, but unfortunately, a fight with a new label left his follow-up to the well-received Bitterness, Spite, Rage and Scorn album on the shelf. Downloads from a leaked copy had fans begging for a vinyl version of the unreleased work, which sadly never came.  Until now.

O? Clouds Unfold is the record that links the heavy garage sound of Dan?s In the Red records to the more experimental pop side Dan has been exploring for the last seven years.  It is a double album rich with pop anthems, moody brooders, and angry rockers. The record highlights all of Dan?s influences and talents, delivering the full range of what this man has to offer. While the album delivers  a multitude of styles, the signature is Melchior?s hook-laden songwriting. Folks may argue, given the wealth of material Dan has been putting out over the last several years, but lots of people think this is the best record he's ever done. It has been a long time coming, but now it?s here.  Hook or Crook is proud to finally make this previously unreleased tour de force available in a beautiful gatefold two-record package.

as someone who is criticizing this without even planning to attend i don't expect you to understand this, but logically, if it had been widely publicized that it was going on sale at X time in advance it would have been 1000X worse for everyone.

our "friends" are pissed because a bunch of zeros got "their" tix because they were busy determining what south american country they were on facebook....random faceless peeps are convinced all the tix went to our friends....

look...i am just going to say none of you know what the shit you are talking about and leave it at that.

Music Shit / Re: Best band to play at a wedding?
« on: July 25, 2009, 12:09:04 AM »
greg ashley played solo guitar for about 30 minutes as folks sat down in my in-laws' backyard, then played a special song he wrote as we walked down the aisle.  mitch cardwell was the officiant.

but at the reception...the best wedding band of all time is the allen oldies band.
http://www.allenoldiesband.com/
that is a fact that can be verified by anyone who was there.

also, the trashwomen played just for fun with allen hill on second guitar.

In 2003 I actually went to shitty local hippie-fest Hookahville to see them. On acid.

sounds like my bachelor party, but in a south lake tahoe casino.  front row, pretty bitchin.

Music Shit / Re: Billy Idol
« on: July 07, 2009, 11:59:39 AM »
i went to see Billy Idol live about 5 years ago at the Warfield in SF (I think i saw Sisters of Mercy there the same week haha!) and it was super weird.  Steve Stevens is still his guitar player (Michael Jackson connection of the day) and it was overall just what I was looking for, but at one point his mic went dead and this hapless roadie came out and replaced it with another mic that didn't work in the middle of the song.  The roadie is running off stage as Billy Idol gets infuriated that the 2nd mic isn't working so he took it off the stand and threw it as hard as he could, hitting the roadie in the back.  He stormed off the stage and all the lights went up.  Like, SHOW OVER!!!  Up till then it was partytime for everyone.  I guess he is kind of testy, kicking heroin over the course of a 15 year period will do that i imagine.

2nd Billy Idol story:  If anyone knows Adam Shandobil at the Bay Guardian, his sister dated Billy Idol in the 80s and Adam has a picture of himself, as a kid, in his bedroom in his parents house, with Prince and Billy Idol posters all over the place, and Billy Idol is sitting there all gussied up like Billy Idol is just chilling with him.  Pretty rad.
