1) Pirate's has always been good to me, then again i just drive over to their office and make sure everything is in order every step of the way. Eric is a cool guy. ask a lot of questions and then ask some more. if you dont like the answers go some where else. It amazes me that people do everything over email these days. pick up the fucking phone. Also, i know one of the guys who runs Pirate's was in the hospital for a while here over the past few weeks with a bad problem. i wasnt going to mention it but they didnt get back to me for a little while about somethig too, whch was totally out of the ordinary and eventually someone called and told me about it. Sometimes returning emails isnt the most important thing. It is a small business, there are only like 3 or 4 dudes running it.
2) i use Mr. Toad's in SF for mastering. They have pretty much breathed life into some of the crappiest sounding source recordings imaginable (Demon's Claws and Haunted George before and after is like night and day). I didnt understand the mastering process when we started out and the Killer's Kiss CD sounded crappy because of that (yeah it couldnt have been the music har har) so I just pester and bug the shit out of these guys until i know it is right. Fuck it, you're paying them so it better be right. i would use Golden but I would want to drive down and meet him first and I havent had the chance yet and Mr Toad's has done good work.
3) Czech plants...eh, so far so good. The quotes i got from other places were astronomically higher, a lot of the special things i want to do that cost more other places are basically free (inserts for one, color which i guess everyone knows about now but was kind of a neat little thing for a while) and as it has been explained to me by people who actually know about it, the DMM pressing thing is actually a pretty cool. Don't ask me why, i already forgot what they told me about it. But the stuff they've done for me sounds pretty fucking good if i say so myself. I mean, i appreciate the work put into making the Goodnight Loving LP 100% analog, but it's like, you know, half of Too Much Guitar was recorded digital and in the long run i like songs not stats. People keep saying if it ever touches digital what is the point of it being on vinyl, but eh i like playign records on a turntable and listenign to the songs that come out of the speakers. No one fucking knew until Jay said so that Too Much Guitar was half digital and people were pissing their pants. It is fucking hard to tell and if you dont make a point of caring about such thigns i find the appreciatoin of the songs is enhanced. I mean i will do whatever a band wants to make it rigth how they want it, that;s just my opinion. But with the czech plant thing and them potentially selling records out the back of the factory door or whatever, i mean it's just like any other thing with distributors or whatever, everybody has been wronged by somebody at some point. Individual experiences vary. It's a lot it's a lot it's a lot it's a lot it's a lot it's a lot LIKE LIFE
