Non-Music Shit / Re: Bay-cation: advice
« on: July 28, 2008, 07:42:28 PM »
why doesn't someone (like you missy) set up a wiki thing where folks can once and for all post all this shit?  it could be associated with jet lag rnr somehow.  boom.

last time i drove by green apple books like 2 months ago they were going out of business.  if that place is still around i imagine there are deals to be had.

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Re: Oakland: THE EARS Last 2 Shows

sweet, i can scratch that off the budget rock to-do list.

since my last update I have been told "2 weeks" by Pirates twice.  Aug 5 is the new date i am supposed to get them.  they will be sent out almost immediately after i get them.  I assure you, i am more anxious than anyone for them to arrive.

thank you for the explanation gentlemen.  while i have often wondered if success would ruin me, this is not the form i feared it would take.

I seeee.  Well, before i got into the Esoteric By Design music biz it was all Bradford Exchange and Franklin Mint plate collecting and sales for me.  Forgive me for thinking some of the more common dynamics might reasonably apply.  hey I'm new at this.

Rick, i have had some issues with paypal in the past, just email me if you can't figure it out.  try logging out of paypal and back into it?  That may sound dumb but give it a shot.  I have received other orders today so it does work.

As I mentioned to a few of you on this trip, Dave (Bubbledumb) is in over his head a bit with no car, no job, a shared bedroom, a child, and weed visions.

You forgot NO PHONE.  I was trying to get some off him to carry on my site for a while.  He called me once and said "Hey i um my phone got shut off but if you call Justin I will be at his place for an hour or so".

Justin if you have some give me a call when you get back to town or let me know how I can get them from him!

Me neither.  I didn't expect the Mirrors ones to go as quickly but I thought the Human Eye ones would be gone.  It is a preorder and sometimes those become problematic so I guess I understand the hesitancy on some level.

Then again, I've started to believe a lot of limited pressings don't really get completely sold out the way people make them seem to.  Zack and I were talking about this recently...i just don't buy it.  Of the 200 colored ones I press of each LP,  I save 5 of each one for myself, I give 10 of the 200 to the bands and the rest get sold on the site (not on ebay 6 months after saying they are gone or however it works).  Or maybe people like the records I put out less than others.  Hard to say, but I generally do not experience the Gone in 60 Seconds effect.

update-  as you may have heard vinyl is HOT right now.  there appears to be more of a wait than usual at the pressing plant.  today i was told these would be sent to me in 2 weeks, though he didn't sound 100% sure of that and said he'd give me a real date this week.  so as much as I would like to be packing these up and sending them out to you right now I cannot.

The good news is the colored ones are only about half sold and perhaps if you hurry you can get one before the guy who works on my website raises the prices of everything $1.

thanks.

Friday, June 27
Liquorball 6pm, $5
early show with Liquorball & Steve Mackay

Liquorball & Steve Mackay (of The Stooges)
Interplanetary champions of psychotic acid rock featuring from Grady Runyan (Monoshock, The Bad Trips), Marlon Kasberg, and a known-associate superhuman drummer du jour. Wasted, sludgey, ugly slop'n'space improvisation that picks up where the instrumental BLACK FLAG left off, and careens into uncharted territories of moaning guitar feedback, ear-shattering organ drones, and mindless rock beats.

Tonight, Liquorball will be joined by Steve Mackay of The Stooges' Fun House and recent Stooges reunion shows infamy.

One set, no intermission. Total brain fry.

yep i had a lot of nights that felt like that.  none of my friends were into the same stuff i was back then, between san diego and chicago i saw more tuneless smelly "post" hardcore bands than i care to remember.

a friend of mine who owns 2 bars but rarely drinks anymore drinks the  nonalcoholic st. pauli girl.  bottle looks real similar

well that is true, but they were unbeatable live.  i saw them play 3 times, each better than the last (and the last time was with unwound in chicago, they made them look plain silly).  their records also got progressively better over time but comparing them to their live show isnt 100% fair- after the first one they are very "produced" and live they were so animated that it was another story.  i think their recorded performances are awesome but more so sonically, for 90s indie rock those records have incredible dynamic range.
74
not sure if they ever came out on lp and haven't looked lately but i really liked Brainiac and I bet all their cds are really cheap.  if you are a vinyl speculator only then I guess it doesn't matter but the music probably makes more sense now to people and hey  they are a lot better than the fells.  i havent listened to the fells since they were an active band but i thought they were weak.
