In the Goodwill in Coldwater, MI I've found a velvet elvis, a bunch of old Garage and psych LP's(Love, Yardbirds, the Nazz, Seeds, ect....) for 27 cents each.  Found 3 Patti Smith records once.  My ex drummer found New York Dolls and the Creamers.  I've found a leather jacket, a practically unused 70's Pioneer turntable, a Dead Kennedys shirt, a James Brown shirt, Hirchell Gordon Lewis' "Paint Me Blood Red".  Some pretty valuable vintage cookie jars, Some 60's Ed Roth stuff, a bucket of Japanese capsule toys, and a large framed photo of a kid from the 1950's in his lone ranger costume.

i am officially jealous. especially the velvet elvis, and the kid in his costume. i love random people's pictures.

How does one acidentally cut holes in clothing? I mean, I've done my share of running around with scissors and have nipped a few walls in the process, but I've yet to cut a complete hole in anything and pass it off as an accident.

I think you need to re-open that case.

well you see, she was cutting a pair of jeans to make really short cutoff shorts. we needed to go retro rollerskating. she had the rod stwart shirt underneath the pants, on the bed...

most people would be smarter, you would think. but this is also the same girl that got offended when i told her she needed help to live life, and then she proceeded to scoop her ice cream out of her bowl onto the kitchen floor.

have you ever found anything really great at a thrift store?

i have seen all the weird stuff because i work in the back room of one and you wouldn't believe the kinda shit people donate, either by accident or just to be a jerk (used dildos, bags of weed, blowup dolls,  poopy diapers, etc). here are some of my favorite things i have found, though..

this ridiculous shirt:

when i saw the comets, the guy i am talking about did not know the words and even stopped "see you later, alligator" in the middle of the song because he ended it after the first verse and everyone else in the band went along with it to avoid making it more of a disaster than it already was. watching the comets was like watching dick clark on new years eve last year.

-? and the mysterians (old men in leather pants and belly shirts, you gotta see to believe)
-little anthony and the imperials (dudes gotta be 70 and still sounds like hes 12)
-mike smith/dave clark five (before he fell off a ladder and became paralyzed of course...he still rocked even though he hardly played out)

-the buckinghams (totally underrated)
-smokey robinson (adam, i totally agree with your assesment)
-wanda jackson (doesn't sound as old as she looks)
-the bobbettes

-gene chandler

DO NOT SEE:
-gary lewis and the playboys (sounds awful!)
-felix cavaliere/the rascals (letdown)
-eric burden/the animals (huge disappointment! did a reggae version of 'dont let me be misunderstood')
-boxtops (zzzzzzzz)
-BILL HALEY'S COMETS! (the original member, dunno his name, is so old and senile he can't remember the words to the songs and  mumbles things like he just had a stroke)

indifferent:
-lesley gore
-gary puckett and the union gap
-the guess who
-lovin spoonful
-spinners
-jay and the americans
-spaniels
-skyliners
-mark lindsey/paul revere and the raiders

-barbra lewis
-diamonds
-maurice williams and the zodiacs

i guess i'm talkin mostly 50s/60s, though i guess some 70s could be included. i'm curious to know what other people have seen live.  this can be in any combination, meaning all original members, a mix of old and new, etc.

were they any good? who would you want to see that still plays out? who do you wish you could have seen that you'll never get the chance?

i have a long annoying list so i'll let some of you guys answer first. let me just start out by saying that dion of dion and the belmonts was one of the biggest disappointments ever, despite the fact that i had high hopes.

the bobbettes stole the last doowop show i saw.
They still play? And kick ass?

heck yes. it was last year, the same show with gene chandler. those ladies are still sassy.

and i'm not sure if it was the coasters with that lawsuit, but like you said, i'm sure there are quite a few bands that has happened with.

gene chandler and the coasters are still pretty decent live, for what it's worth. i'm a sucker for old black men in sparkly suits doing synchronized dance routines. the bobbettes stole the last doowop show i saw.
when did you see gene chandler?

my mom used to take me to the motown cafe when i was little to see the fake temptations. it ruled.

i saw gene chandler last year. when he sings "duke of earl" he wears this cape and carries around a cane and creeps around the stage. he looked more like an old magician than a duke, but whatever.

of all the 50s/60s bands i've seen, the temptations are one i've always missed.
