"1979 - COMPACT CASSETTE RECORDS" ???
i have not ever seen original, but seems like totally a recent boot...  seller avoid mentioning about "original".

I hate god damn bootleg sellers trying to put it off as an original. If it is a bootleg I feel bad for the buyer shelling out $600 for fake.

I disagree that Johnson is a "canonical figure". And that is one of the points I keep coming back to: Johnson/Beat Happening are in my opinion considered necessary only because they were around /nascent in the eighties - not because of musical creativity or influence. Does Beat Happening earn a footnote in the book? Uh, sure. A chapter? No way.

Why?

Explain yourself.

They have done plenty to prove themselves.

What is your argument?

Is it simply because you don't dig the tunes or what?

Just wondering, here's an open question.

What is the most you've spent on a record?

What record was it?

The most I've spent on a record was $40.

It was a My Bloody Valentine bootleg reissue of Sunny Sunday Smile(which weird enough had the strawbarry wine EP on side b).

Actual won it on ebay for $20 but the ridiculous shipping added another $20.

if a broad is dumb enough to enter my own personal pummel tunnel then she is definitely stupid enough to sleep with me, regardless of what records and smartbooks I festoon my shit hole with

Agreed

some advice is to hit some nugz and then jam records

it will turn this

Then I heard how vinyl sounded and changed my whole perspective on music.

into this

Then I heard how vinyl sounded ON WEED and changed my whole perspective on music.

I've done this countless times, not an issue there. haa

- Ultimately the value of a record is determined by how much you like it. I have records I could and would flip for $500 in a second. I have records that I could get no more than a buck for that I will never let go of. Remember that. The moment a record becomes a price tag or something to brag about is the moment it has become a baseball card.

This is the best advice I've heard so far. I'm starting to realize this.

If you move away from home it's best to keep your records where they are. maybe take a few "essentials". too many times i have moved and taken records with and now a lot of covers are bent or bumped in some way. Will eventually mean you'll get less for them when the inevitable time comes to sell.

Semester's almost over, I'm dreading moving my records from my dorm. Only downside to vinyl I've found is that they weigh a ton. I suppose it's a double standard though.

There will be a certain girl that thinks it's cool that you like records, that is when mix tapes come into play. explain that you dub every song from a vinyl record, include a little vinyl crack at the beginning. i've gotten a few BJs due to mix tapes.

THANKS RECORD COLLECTING

Yeah man, that sounds like a perfect plan actually. I'll keep that in mind when I find a girl who actually cares about vinyl, she'll melt!

What are some trouble shooting record collecting tips?

do some research and figure out if anything in your "sell" pile will fetch some decent scrill from some d-bag on the internet.  i paid $10 for a new blank dogs "diana the herald" first press, then realized it sucked and sold it for $6 to the store where i got it from, which then marked it up to like $40.  i could have sold that record to another moron (like i was three months earlier) and bought a coupla cool records with the proceeds.

another tip is to get nugged.

Yeah I've always kept this in mind. Thats shitty about your Blank Dogs record. I recently saw that go on ebay for somewhere around $80.

I was just busting balls, I think record collecting is an amazing hobby and I have loved every minute of it.

Real record collecting advice:
- Girls don't care, if they do they are probably ugly
- Buy essential punk records; no point of you spending 200 bucks on a Chain Gang single if you don't own Never Mind The Bollocks...
- New music is a sham almost 90% of the time, continue to download new music before you buy, otherwise you will just have a ton of shitty records that you won't care about in a year or 2. Before I moved to SF I sold a ton of records to my friend who is opening a record store in Pittsburgh and thinking about buying all of that shit made me sick.

Very true.

Before I buy a record I ether A)Already love it or B)Preview it.

As far as girls go, no girl I know actually likes records. Most of the girls I know with vinyl takes horrible care of their records or is absolutely clueless. I know the girl I'm dating hates records after the hours I've talked about them to her. haha, She can't stand it actually.

"dangers" of record collecting?......

selling them all for 200 bucks to live in a closet for a month, then starting again from scratch....Oh yeah!!!
actually kinda fun....FUCK IT dude!

God Damn, is the general consensus of record collecting bad? Fuck that, it's wonderful! Until I have to sell them all to live in a closet I suppose. I'd probably sell plasma before I do that.

One piece of advice: don't ask for advice about ANYTHING on Termbo.  Especially since the vast majority of snide responses will come from people who have completely stupid, shitty lives in the first place, and clearly shouldn't be asked for advice on anything whatsoever.

I've realized this and I'm sure most of snide responses are from fucks who should be working at some random hole in the wall second hand shop somewhere. I was mostly just seeing if anyone care to respond with actual responses.

how did you find us

My friend told me about Tyvek's Skyin LP when it came out. I did some searching and I came across a Skyin' thread. Decided to join, read and post.

You surely must still live with your parents.

When I'm not at school I live with my dad. So what? Obviously you live on your own?
