Non-Music Shit / Re: Mugged. Tell your stories.
« on: June 14, 2010, 10:57:41 AM »
People get mugged in Milwaukee all the time. I've never had the misfortune (knock on head), but one of the better stories happened in about 2001 or 2002.

Magoo (from Bear Proof Suit, Eine Kleine Chinmuzik, et. al.) and Betsy (Sugar Stems) were held at gunpoint and forced into a car. I believe the dudes stole their cigarettes immediately, but between the two of them they only had like $5. So this was a cue for the dudes to decide to make Magoo or Betsy take them where they lived. Betsy still lived far away and Magoo lived in the neighborhood... so they force their way into his house at the time (ROBOT HOUSE!) and at gunpoint told everone to get all the money they had in the house together. After a couple minutes all the occupants of the house were able to come up with like $8.52!! Dudes were pissed off and just stole the TV and left. That was seriously $8.52 cash money between 5 people. Awesome. --eric

seriously you people are defending nofx in some kind of "who's punk who's not" idiot argument?

go fucking die!!!

all i said was that they used to be! they weren't always the way they are now, as the first few records show. now they are total rockstars, but i still like some of their stuff. i'm allowed to have shitty taste if i want!!!

NOFX was awesome. I still listen to them regularly and enjoy almost all of it. Who gives a shit what they do with their time now. I'll agree the Pump Up the Valium and beyond is pretty crappy though.

What ever became of The Kind Of Jazz Music That Kills or whatever they were called?
[/quote]

Some people moved away, which they then replaced with other members of Goodnight Loving, which is kinda pointless since they are rather busy all the time. They played like 2 shows with the new lineup and then just stopped all together. Really, 3/7 of them has been doing Head on Electric for years and I think they've stepped up to be just as good. Their newest recordings (Purple Death) are fucking great.

The new Ryan and Wendy band is called Ramma Lamma.

I fucking love Sticks'n'Stones.

The Butts here are really fucking awesome. It's gonna be sad when Tom moves to Athens, GA to get his PHD in algebraic topology. That'll kill Quest for Fire and the Butts and I might start hating hardcore. Actually, I'm just gonna play drums with the guys from the Butts, but whatever.

---Milwaukee---
Other bands around here: Half Gorilla, never really liked them before, but they tore it up at the Slang show on June 3rd. Gut Reactions broke up, Dinosaur Pills broke up, I liked both of them. Elephant Walk is breaking up. Bored Straight is pretty fucking awesome thrash. Trent Fox and the Tenants are pretty great if they keep their set time down. Bored Games does the power pop thing pretty well. Ben's voice constantly reminds me of Pezband, I can't get over it. Truthdealer still rips. If Cartilage Party lost the fucking horns they would be the best band in the city. Sugar Stems deserve a mention, pretty tame pop music but mad catchy. Shit... Almost forgot Midwest Beat! Not as good as they used to be in my opinion, but still worth checking out.

---Rest of WI---
As for the rest of the state, my favorite band of all these is Tenement. They play pop punk essentially, but it's just better. It's got more energy than most hardcore bands that come through and they don't give a fuck. It's great music. SFN and Dios Mio also deserve nods. I'm not a fan of Beach Patrol in a general sense, but they were pretty great last time I saw them. Also, Madison has the Hussy who are pretty great live.

That's all I can think of. Here's all the myspace links in order of mention.

I was given the impression that both Un Dans Versailles and Bazooka were released only to their friends and family in the mid-70s. Oh, I see, Bazooka was a cassette. Pardon the interruption. Do ya'll really like the Shoes better than Paul Collins Beat? I think 20/20 might be better, too. --eric

Here's the flyer minus Sea of Shit. If they still show up they can play. They probably won't get paid at all though. You guys and Fugitive Kind (they're from Oakland) will split the $. Word, --eric
