Non-Music Shit / Re: recording

Recently, I've been using Audacity for the digital end, but I'm kinda on the fence as to whether or not I like it. Some of the features aren't very intuitive and it can get a little complicated at times. It is a free multi tracker though.

I really like the Beach Boys version of Barbara Ann. I love how they recorded it as a joke and how they're having such a good time singing it, laughing and such. In fact, I'd say that laugh during the tried Peggy Sue part might even fall into the perfect moment category.

And I absolutely agree on the single version of All Kindsa Girls.....perfection!

That growl on Pretty Woman is hot shit for sure. I love the drums too. Buddy Harman is the master of the driving beat.

To clear up any misconceptions, Zooleggers isn't a tranny strip club. It's just a gay bar. And like most gay bars, crossdressers and trannies and whatever else, frequent it. It's still my favorite place to play music and I think our best shows have happened there.

The stuff on the PRN and Melody Inn pages might be wrong. Greg doesn't do the PRN booking anymore, too many screwups. His wife was doing booking for a while, you might want to try contacting her directly: http://profile.myspace.com/6085304

There's also the Tip Top Tavern around 13th and Capitol. They'll book pretty much anybody. They do have TERRIBLE sound, and the shows are booked by this real old guy, Bill. He's crazy, if you give him your phone number, expect some random drunken calls in the middle of the night, and maybe some threats. However, the place always fills up, and at the end of the night, he's fair and pays well and will probably invite you back.

Missing Link is alright as far as LP selection. I just think they're expensive, and they really really lack on 45's. I've passed on alot of records there, just to get them cheaper over the net. I used to really like Rockin Billy's but I haven't been to the new location. I haven't had alot of money for records since they moved. The old one had the best 45 selection in the city though.

I think the hardest thing about living in Indy and playing in a band is the constant rejection. It really pains me to constantly hear from promoters/bookers that we're just a novelty band and we should take ourselves more seriously. It really bothers me everytime a moderately decent band comes to town and we don't get to play with them. It also really bugs me that we've had people in Lafayette be so cool to us and help us out and we can't return the favor since nobody will book us.

On the subject of Lafayette, what's going on up there? Why is Downtown Records booking so many shitty Indianapolis punk dot com bands?

Music Shit / Re: What is everybody listening to? Part II

Today in painting class, we listened to Supertramp's greatest hits, and I think it's probably some of the worst music I've experienced there.

I washed out my ears on the ride home with the Okmoniks and Ricky Nelson, and by singing Duke of Earl and Cover of the Rolling Stone to myself. Plenty of 45's have followed since I got home, now I'm on Otis Redding's Direct Me.

i like the locomotions single on savage.

It's a good record. All the Locomotions stuff is really good, except that one Yakisakana single.

I cant say the Locomotions do anything for me.  I got one of their 7"S for the distro when I started and I would practically do cartwheels when someone bought one because I was that much closer to ridding myself of that zit of a record

Was it the 7" they put out on Yakisakana? That one definitely sucked.

These guys put out the Locomotions CD, which is definitely great.  However, I've owned two copies of this CD and both stopped working within a few weeks time. No skips, just wouldn't play at all in any CD player.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Anybody know anything about external soundcards?

Thanks for the help. I picked one of these up yesterday, but it must be a newer version as it samples up to 24bps and is XP friendly. So far so good.
