I may have to listen to Avalon and Flesh & Blood again, those have always been my least favorite, but also least familiar with.  When I saw them in 2001, every time they started up a song I didn't recognize (meaning a song from any of those last three LPs) the audience started cheering, and when they did "Ladytron" I overheard the people behind me wondering aloud which song it was.  I was so much cooler than any of them.  That show by the way ruled hard.  I think the reason I don't dig those last couple of records is because of Paul Thompson's absence.  (I know he's on Manifesto, but I think if I remember correctly they wanted someone else...I could be making that up.)  Paul Thompson is a fuckin' monster drummer, I love it.

The lyrics describe a man that likes the looks of a woman, but is afraid to approach her. Ferry explained in an interview that Eno and MacKay's backing vocal chorus of "CPL 593H" was the licence plate number of the car in which the woman is riding.[1]

So is there any truth to the rumor that remake/remodel is actually about a sex doll with the serial number, cbm5938?

As far as I know, its CPL5938, and either it came from a license plate, or I've just wanted to put it on my license plate so long that I've mixed them up.  I may have to go research this now.

Richard, I will prepare a Roxy Music CD/DVD for you and lay it on you this weekend.  You'll be at the Eagles Club right?  Right?

Did he eat Sheperd's Pie? Mmmmmm....

I bet he stuck his tongue in someone else's at least.

I think they recorded it and Zink mix/mastered?

I am pretty sure they recorded it themselves. I think it was mixed but not digitally mastered...

I recorded the whole album except for some final overdubs...I had nothing to do with the mixing or mastering.

And you can’t even say there are any more Ramones left, cuz the survivors are the crappy Ramones that no one cares about.

Yeah, fuck Tommy Ramone.

I can't remember where I read it, but somewhere someone said the Necessary Evils wanted to be to psychedelia what the Cramps were/are to rockabilly.  I think it's a pretty accurate assessment.  They played in GB about 8 years ago at the Cafe and nobody went.  They were great of course.

Music Shit / Re: what is the most you've ever paid for a record?
« on: November 23, 2006, 05:19:54 PM »
$220 for an original "Meet The Residents," $75 for the Monkees' "Changes" but I don't remember paying more than $50 for anything else.  Someday I'll drop the three grand I'll need to get the Residents' "Santa Dog" dbl 45, but that's it.

One Xmas, that song was on the radio so much I made myself stop the radio every time it scanned to a station playing it and listen to it every single time I heard it.  It ended up being something like 40 times the whole month of December or something.  Now I like the song.

Richard Adventure, what's your take on the movie "Almost Famous"?  You know the scene where the manager brings them the t-shirts backstage and Russell's the only one in focus in the picture and they start arguing and then Jeff Bebe says "From the very beginning, we said I'm the front man and you're the guitarist with mystique.  That's the dynamic we agreed on: Page/Plant, Mick/Keith..."?  What's your take on the fact that in the original cut of the movie, Jeff Bebe goes on to include "Blackmore/Gillan" in that list?  What's your take on the fact that they cut just those two names?

Shit, I can't believe I didn't think of anything by Nickelback.  When I worked at a bank, that one song of their's about the abusive husband/father (is there only one?) was on the radio and I started making fun of various aspects of it and this one chick was mortified that I would make fun of a subject so serious, as though that were my main impetus.  She had some really nice cans.  So did this other chick who worked there.
