I second that, an amazing book on the 42nd street grindhouses and vintage exploitation cinema in general. The chapter on audience reactions to racesploitation films like Mandingo, Goodbye Uncle Tom and Fight For Your Life is a compelling read.Incredibly Strange Films. Long live Cash Flagg.
if ya dig that you should find a copy of Sleazoid Express by Bill Landis.
Not as gruesome or as good as INSIDE, another great new French horrorfilm, but definitely worth a look if you're into mean spirited cinema. Films like HOSTEL or SAW are pure Disney in comparison, and not as cleverly made.
You're not by any chance from Scandinavia since you buy region 2 dvds from Another World Entertainment? The folks who run AWE in Copenhagen are friends of mine, and AWE just released "Violence in a Women's Prison" ("Emanuelle i Kvindefaengslet") with 4 pages of inner notes, in Danish, by yours truly. Next AWE project for me is "Satan's Sadists".
