Non-Music Shit / Re: Star Wars

Sigh.... effin' Disney...

"Sources have told The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline that reshoots are indeed happening. According to THR, "execs screened the film and felt it was tonally off with what a 'classic' Star Wars movie should feel like." Apparently, this rough cut had "the feel of a war movie" and "[t]he goal of the reshoots will be to lighten the mood, bring some levity into the story and restore a sense of fun to the adventure." Deadline's intel was a little more vague, saying executives felt "the first cut was lacking the edge that Force Awakens had, and the story needs to jell." Deadline's sources also say the movie's still on target for a December 16 release."

Well, it's directed by the guy who did that Godzilla reboot (the newest one, not the other one...) and that movie was boring and overbearing as hell, so maybe its a good thing? There was a lot of talk at Fox during the Fantastic Four fiasco about doing reshoots, I bet they really regret the shit out of that now. Tried watching parts of that movie on HBO and I couldn't do it, man!

Here's a piece that talks about how Marvel actually bakes reshoots into their productions, and we (sadly) have to  take into account how much CGI is done in post, so some times they don't know they need to reshoot until they go to add in all the after effects and see they've got shit shots.

I honestly hope its a good movie because it can back off from all the FORCE IS IN YOU shit and just be an action/caper with some dope ass swordplay.

Yeah... that director's indie film before Godzilla , "Monsters" is great though. Hollywood kills art.

Shit, I didn't know that was the same guy that did Monsters, that was a great movie! I just downloaded, er, um, watched Godzilla because it was a 3D movie to try it out with my new projector at the time, wasn't expecting much but got even less than that. I gotta show the kids Monsters, that was great. Host was too, but too slow for the kiddies.

Have stiffeners gone extinct? Can someone confirm? Seems that the people I'm getting records lost their stiffener connect.

Ding! Ding! goes the corner.

Can I get a bump? You sure can!

Wait, sellers are allowed NOT to use these damned things? I can't wait to stop and get a bunch of hate email comin' my way ... Why would you not use one of those when packing a 7" mailer, unless you fill it with 5 records you're just asking for trouble.

Also, thanks for them 7"s, I didn't know that Neil Hamburger one was listed at $20 on Discogs, sorry you didn't get to rip off some other goof...

Hey yeah nice idea maybe Bobby Steele could join too and they all could wrestle it out in a cage match like Jerry did in the 90's

Bobby Steele's facebook posts are constantly confused with my drunk racist uncle who also has the name "Bobby" - adding him was one of the greatest things I've ever done on facebox.

I'd definitely say 3. Calgary is about 50% smaller than Hampton Roads. Wait, where's that you say? Exactly. Though I've never been to Calgary and would love to go.

Hey, I'm from "Hampton Roads" ... And y'all stay away if you know what's best for you!

There are places like Tampa / St Pete, where a three store outfit like Sound Exchange does CDs, vinyl, used steroe equipment, video, some games etc so it's hard to break out #s EXCEPT...

Best punk record store in America is in St. Pete- Planet Retro. Seriously. Go there and spend $100s

some good used stuff, but overpriced, higher side of discogs prices. and he has the annoying habit of putting out a lot of stuff unpriced, and then looks up the prices online when you bring a stack to the counter. walked out a few times empty handed because of that.

Not pricing your stuff like that sounds like 100% bullshit. Wonder if I can build that into my webstore ...

Some of those "perks" are pretty fun/cool - I absolutely loathe most uses of Kickstarter/Indiegogo for stuff like 'help us pay for our recording session', but this is a legit use and damned if it didn't work!

Finally had an encounter w/ Cosloy's fave punching bag, Luke Winkie: http://www.avclub.com/article/how-did-neutral-milk-hotel-legend-get-so-out-hand-235206

What a bunch of dogshit. And that's outside of the album being discussed (which I don't hate). The writing is sub-par and having a paragraph-long quote from Brandon Stosuy is rich. Still don't get why that dude has so much pull.

Winkie: "My very first paycheck from the Round Table Pizza I worked at in high school went to an Etsy shop that made custom Vans with the In The Aeroplane Over The Sea album cover delicately painted on each shoe. It is, without a doubt, the most embarrassing purchase of my life."

Congrats, also the most embarrassing sentence!

This just in -- Neutral Milk Hotel are not gods.

"Years later, I caught Neutral Milk Hotel on their reunion tour and watched them hawk posters and T-shirts in a venue offering $6 Bud Lites. It was good and cathartic but also the final confirmation that Neutral Milk Hotel was made of mortal men, with mortgages and tour riders and a willingness to break silence if the price was high enough. Their flesh and bones were on full display for a demographic who spent a decade trying to convince themselves otherwise. No plans for future music, no new interviews, no new interpretations or explanations. The mystery ends with a cash-in."

Looks like NMH broke omerta. I bet Stosuy knows some hitmen who could put some heavy slippers on Mangum for you, Winkie.

God, I couldn't even hate-read it the whole way through...

Aren't they....kinda big? Like bigger than 99% of the new bands discussed here?

I like the first album, not because I think it's great, but primarily because I liked that they weren't following trends so much as hitting their own groove. Dynamics and tension were actually involved. A commendable band, just not a very exciting one (for me).

Bigger than bands talked about here but I more meant they are not bigger like Ty Segal level. At least in DC they usually are an opening act or play in smaller rooms.

I wouldn't use the DC live scene as a bellwether of an artists' fame in the genres of music we enjoy...

Running does wonders for my mental health.

I drink like a fish so I can't speak to sobriety, but I can back this statement 1000%. Used to run cross-country in high school and the beginning of college and ended up hating it hard, but just started back last year and find myself wishing I had more than an hour to dedicate to it at a time.
