ENT? Extreme Noise Terror?

Ear Nose & Throat doctor, but hell, that ENT might work too!

This thread has really made me want to get a good, thorough ear douching.

Yeah! So, what, one just goes to a regular doctor and says, "suck it out, good sir?" I haven't been to a doctor in 10 years.

Depending on your insurance, you may not be able to directly call up an ENT, you may need a referral from your PCP... At that point you add your PCP copay ($20? 30?) along with a specialist copay ($50?) and it may be cheaper for you to just call the ENT directly and say you'll pay out of pocket. Don't know your plan specifics, but ENT offices are normally pretty chill, give them a call and find out. My guy found out I did audio stuff and now I see him at gear meetups in the NoVa area, pretty weird.

If a package is lost in transit and the seller keeps their proof of shipment AND the buyer has proof of not receiving the product - doesn't the buyer get their money back AND the seller get to keep the money? I always thought this was the buyer and seller protection built into Paypal's excessive fees. This way nobody is getting screwed over. Again, this is only if you send payment as "goods/service". Am I understanding this incorrectly? Obviously nobody wants to screw somebody else outta money (or get down like that) but I would think this is where both parties are happy with the fees they take off the top. Although, the rules may be totally different for international shipping which I think you said yours is..

https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/security/seller-protection

You are right regarding US shipping, there's this part here...

"PayPal Seller protection is available for eligible payments from buyers in any country. However, if you sell or market to buyers outside the U.S., please read the PayPal Buyer Protection policy and PayPal Seller Protection policy of the countries in which you are selling (accessible via the “Legal” or “Legal Agreements” footer on most PayPal site pages) as these policies will apply to you as a Payment Recipient or seller."

So if the seller can confirm with PayPal that they'll take care of him as well, win-win. I mean, other than the fact that some guy threw your record in a ravine or something...

Nah, the last X-Files was by far the worst one. I don't have a pony in the race, since I never watched more than a few OG episodes and wouldn't care if they pissed all over it. The "monster" one was entertaining, the last one was outright terrible, and the rest were degrees of middlin'.

I wife and I were halfway through Duchovny reading off a cue card in the second one and she just picked up her kindle and gave up - this was the woman who had all the original seasons on VHS then made the purchase of DVDs when they came out in college ... What the hell happened???

Although, to be fair, they should've brought back Brisco County instead, Bruce Campbell can fix anything.

This happened to me and after weeks of back and forth with all sorts of people throughout the post office, they basically said I was shit out of luck.

Same here with the two times out of hundreds of packages (many of those int'l) this has happened to - one package actually did get to me roughly 3 months after it was sent, and the other, never. Both of mine were listed as being in Chicago last, thanks Obummer.

RE: In Ears

There are a lot of great IEMs out there, and there are a lot of bad IEMs out there, but the only real reason they can hurt you is if you have a highly variant canal (easily possible) and/or you listen to music wayyyy too loudly through them. The ones that come with phones can easily exceed safe listening volumes, and they are more damaging since they are closer in.

If you want to invest in good IEMs, Etymotic and Ultimate Ears require you to go to an audiologist to get molds made - I've yet to take this plunge because I have invested in other really expensive over-ear headphones, but I know artists who swear by them.

RE: High Frequency Hearing
You can do these tests at home with an oscillating tone, but it's actually quite cheap to schedule an appointment with an audiologist to get professional measurements across the spectrum - my insurance covered my visit to an ENT and I came out with a full spectrum measurement for a $20 copay.

There's some more advanced hearing protection gear than there was when I was a kid that wrote off ear plugs, I used these when I used to do live sound and actually play shows - Etymotic ER20.

If anyone needs any tones (15khz, 20khZ, etc), I got you covered. I'm sure there's a site somewhere too, but keep in mind if you are playing high tones through speakers instead of a headset, those speakers may not be able to reproduce sound that high so you may not hear it because of your setup, not your ears...

Damn, Ohio.

Good for John Kasich and the state of Ohio.

And, obviously, "good" for whatever kids who are born who happen to escape their date with death at the slaughterhouse that is Planned Parenthood, however that legislation may possibly prevent such cases here and there.

Instead of making any kind of argument that is sure not to sway someone believing something as vile as what you say above, I just donated $20 to Planned Parenthood in your name, "Giant Leech". If you were being cute and I missed your joke I hope we can both have a laugh at that, otherwise, take some time and get your facts straight on what PP is, what it does, who it supports, and the changes in people's lives it makes.

You should donate all the money you want (your own money that it is... please do not steal it from other people) to Planned Parenthood. That is one of my (unstated) points and the point of the Ohio legislation: that people who want to murder infants inside a woman's womb should do so on their own fucking dime and not beleaguer the taxpayer into being forced into subsidizing such atrocity.

1- The fuck you mean stealing people's money, bud. Seriously, step up and explain that veiled shit.
2- Excellent use of murder incorrectly, I believe physicians would beg to disagree, but the fuck do they know.
3- The Hyde amendment has existed since 1976, no federal taxpayers under Medicaid have been covering abortion services since then. Even snuck in the Stupak part of ACA to make sure private insurers don't use any tax money, either.
I don't do research for any payors in Ohio, but I assume that state hasn't been covering any abortion services for years, if not decades. Get this poor tax-payer argument out of here, this is political calculus to continue to force Roe back into the Supreme Court and defecate on women's rights once and for all.

Wasn't gonna say anything more but if you're insinuating I'm stealing money, I'd really like your explanation on how you got to that.

1- So amusing (to an admittedly minor degree) that got you uptight about that. Feeling guilty about something there, Mr. (or Mrs.) Windy?

I was getting that you were attributing what I do with my profits to theft from those that gave them to me, but glad that ain't the case. As businesses can spend their profits on whatever the hell they want, including supporting murder! America is great!

Mr Small Government, the only thing more sacred than your womb is his wallet.

Can principled people on both sides of the abortion debate not simply concede that a society in which no one needs to have an abortion (ie access to birth control, sex education and decent social support for mothers-- oh, hi Planned Parenthood!) would be fine, but since people will end up having them anyway in the meantime, it's better to keep them safe, subsidised medical procedures tied to education, and not simply desperate transactions with criminals and opportunists? That sounds like a much more consistent, realistic and pragmatic (you know, 'conservative' in the best sense of the term) approach than kneejerk moralising that wins votes from idiots like Giant Douche but does nothing at all to address the issue.

This is the kind of logical thinking that is held up by facts, and is even heralded by one of my more favorite conservative voices, David Frum (a voice that was silenced and fired from the AEI for, well, telling the truth...)

An older article but worth a read* - http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/29/opinion/frum-abortion-reality/

"If you're serious about reducing abortion, the most important issue is not which abortions to ban. The most important issue is how will you support women to have the babies they want.

As a general rule, societies that do the most to support mothers and child-bearing have the fewest abortions. Societies that do the least to support mothers and child-bearing have more abortions."

*There was a much longer piece he did citing multiple studies on FrumForum.com, but that's long gone*

The problem with letting the restrictions go in America is the loss of that anger from the R base, which means they'll have to find some other foul way to make them turnout.

And I wish conversations about abortion services were a moot point, but they are not, and they are dangerous and loaded enough that it drives people to kill other people in the name of life... It angers me how regressive this country is, fighting battles that should have been resolved in the 60s**, imagine adding up all the money spent lobbying on both sides of the aisle, you've got yourselves a few couple billion right there for education and roads, that's where money should be going, not fighting tooth and nail (and losing!) to keep the status quo.

**As much as the right argues that the Supreme Court shouldn't be activist in making decisions like upholding the PPACA, their main stated goal is to get Roe overturned, period. Google Roe overturned and you'll see every moron running for President states this clearly, as well as almost every current R Govenor. Its only activist if its something I don't like!**

Yeah, you actually have to use a 3rd party addon installer program to be able to install Genesis and other less-above-board addons. It's not that hard though. There are plenty of walkthroughs. That's cool you helped with the development. I remember playing around on XBMC on an old soft-modded Xbox. It was cool. Kinda insane KODI is an offshoot of that.

Yeah, I had two soft-mods with different RAM configurations (I soldered more RAM in one!), so I would send debug stuff to them on nightly builds - taught me how to do GIT and unix stuff which I do in my real job now, so thanks for the foot in the door, piracy (and emulators)! KODI runs great on the Amazon fire stick and other android TV sticks if anyone wants something they can watch official Netflix, Hulu, etc apps alongside streaming illicit stuff from a local or remote server...

Anyways, back to TV shows! Catching up to all the X-Files I've recorded never seemed so unfun!

Check out KODI. It's a free streaming video player that supports 3rd party addons. Genesis is the main one, it works like Netflix, you just search for what you want and it scrapes all the main streaming services for you. It's insanely convenient and I've been able to keep up on everything that's not on Netflix/borrowed HBO login. Super lightweight too, runs on my old Android phone.

KODI (formerly XBMC) is way more than a streaming video player, I used to actually help with development back in the XBMC on Xbox (original) days. Haven't used Genesis but will look into it, installing plugins is wayyyy easier than it used to be.

ETA - Ooooh, an unsupported plugin, I'ma play with this when I get home... Also, this one does need manual install, I take back the 'installing plugins is easy' thing

yeah i would love to hear a rip of that

Back in town ... What format is best for you (or anyone else who wants to listen)... Its stored in FLAC but I can drop it to whatever, lemme know
