My copy of JACKIN' OFF WITH JACKO came with a page ripped out of a Michael Jackson biography.  The following quote was underlined

"I believe in God.  The sun has been up there for millions of years.  What's holding it up?"

I like Blues for Allah and Wake of the Flood.  On those records they sound like a dirty stinking hippie version of Steely Dan, a decrepit mash of electric Miles and The Byrds, or Magma for babies: luscious, brown and dank.

Beautifully apt description of this music, which sadly isn't very good.

That Sonny Criss album is great.  There's a crazy Horace Tapscott archive at UCLA with tapes and film going back to 1960.

At that price i better get pissed on by a beautiful mutant

I'll be at the LA show for sure.  I don't give a shit what it costs.

I'm listening to Sonny Rollins's Freedom Suite.  Hadn't heard 'til now (for shame).  Pleasant.  I expected the more adventurous material that he erred toward later on, but that's my prob, Bob.

Have you heard the David S. Ware version?

Infidels is a great record.  Maybe his last one.

Thanks for the recommendations!  I have the Hawes book en route..

Hampton Hawes got a presidential pardon from JFK

Just looked that up, I thought it was Art or Chet Baker

SSR will dig this if no one else

His best stuff is '77-'81, the years right before he died.  I've spent so much time with Art Pepper's music from this period.  All the 'Widow's Taste' CDs Laurie has released from this period are outstanding (and now some vinyl).  It looks like she's coming out with another Art book for those of you who dig Straight Life (one of the best music memoirs ever)

They have announced it before (years ago) but maybe these bootlegs (which I haven't heard) finally did it..

I have the THESE records 2xLP of H&E and Graphic/Varispeed from 1998.  And the live boot LP from around that time.  Both sound great; only pieces of This Heat vinyl I own.
