New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / A Decade of DNT: 10 year anniversary batch of a dozen tapes!

How's it going?
With the countdown to 2016 ticking, DNT is proud to announce its newest batch of tapes, celebrating a decade of DNT! Crazy, huh? Ten whole years. The official anniversary was August 4th, but between a vacation to Ireland and relocating our HQ from Oakland, CA to Columbus, OH (What's good, Cbus?) it took us a little longer than planned for this monstrous batch -- 12 tapes plus 6 genre-specific 60 minute archival samplers spanning DNT's decade of existence.

I wanted to return to my roots, so I spent even more time handcrafting these tapes. All covers were hand painted by myself and Pearl Morgan with one of a kind artwork, duplicated 1:1 in real time. You'll also notice that a large chunk of these tapes are solo projects of mine. People who know me personally know I've been making music for years, but so slow to actually *release* anything because I'm so finnicky -- so instead I've been accumulating shoeboxes full of recordings from over the years. I decided to finally put some of it out to the world, imperfections and all. This means the fidelity varies, and some recordings sound unfinished. Nevertheless, humility aside, I'm quite proud of my creations, and I hope you enjoy them too. The entire batch is extremely limited, so don't delay in ordering.

Also, prices in the mailorder, both the label and distro, have been drastically reduced to clear space -- all new cassettes & 7" s are now $2.50 (doubles and anything over 60 minutes are $4) and all new LPs are $7. Shipping is extra, and because of the reduced prices, DNT releases are no longer free shipping.

"In the middle of last month, DNT quietly dropped a trio of mind-expanding tapes by Metal Rouge, Eric Sanchez, and Eric Hardiman’s long-running Rambutan project. Hardiman has spent a number of years cultivating a sprawling and prolific discourse of experimental music, including but not limited to running the incredibly consistent Tape Drift imprint, staying active in several knock-out bands and collaborations (Century Plants, Burnt Hills, Twilight of the Century, Location Ensemble, Mensheviks), and contributing to these very pages. Surface Language is the latest in Rambutan’s rewarding discography and highlights just another facet of the project’s hyper-varied sound. Splayed across two sides of long-form, distant tones and drones, the cassette is a ghostly drift of sonic apparition, both present and absent at the same time. Various chimes, creaking tones, and occasional glimpses of rhythm warble through space in a hypnotic haze of grim activity. The tape’s B-side, sampled below) opens with a dissonant, decayed bell chiming over an over in a minimal, industrial symphony of barren beauty. The cyclical drift floats along throughout the entire second side, wallowing in an infinite daze of noise and subtle manipulation. Hey everybody!
After much delay, DNT releases its factually best tapes of 2014. There have been many reasons for the long wait, but the most recent being the ongoing Black-led rebellion in Ferguson and around the country. I've been very involved locally, and am so ecstatic at the high standard of solidarity the Bay Area is setting -- In the past weeks the Black Out Collective and Black Lives Matter (among others) have shut down the BART, shut down OPD police headquarters and other actions -- Oakland doesn't fuck around!

Anyway, on to the tapes -- Audio samples are on the site and we'll add reviews as they come in. Below these descriptions is a list of the newest items to the distro. Stores/distros: get in touch for wholesale rates.

Metal Rouge "Gamble" cassette (DNT070)
"Metal Rouge's "Gamble" eschews their previous LP Soft Erase's martial drum machines and rock structures, delivering instead rudimentary jazz fire and blaring white-heat guitar continuums soaked in unintentional tape manipulation. Four tracks: a journey from pointillist guitar/trumpet sparring to a completely warped amorphous hell, an epic single minded guitar/vocal flare-out, a piano-driven cloud of massed utopian strings and a staggering primitive drum raga. Nine years into their existence Metal Rouge are still finding new ways to cast aside the false, uphold the unrefined and crawl into the marrow of the music. Hand-numbered edition of 100 on dark blue shells with full color art by Christina Carter.

Eric Sanchez "Los Otros Ojos" cassette (DNT069)
Scenes adjust and new tones are set while the surroundings are deteriorating and the floor is gradually appearing. Two fifteen minute pieces recorded between San Francisco and Monterey, 2014. Hand-numbered edition of 50 with full color artwork by Eric Sanchez on lime green shells with full color labels.

DNT Records Fall Newsletter - Giants-Royals Special

Heyy everybody,
 Look at that, another even-numbered year in the '10s, so the Giants are back in the World Series. And although the A's were knocked out by the Royals, my brother-from-the-same-mother and bro' from a different mo' live in Kansas City, so I've become a Royals fan the past couple years. For that reason, I've decided to turn my conflict of interest into a sale and pass the savings on to youuuuuuu!

Giants-Royals World Series Special: For the duration of the World Series, every time the Giants win a game all tapes/records with orange colors on the cover are $1 off, and every time the Royals win, blue items are $1 off. So the savings will expand as the series progresses.(And yes, it's possible to double-down if the covers have blue and orange). Because this is a somewhat complicated sale and too arbitrary for our site's engine, after you place your sale send us an email and we'll manually refund the $$ you save.
