Will be there mid june (7 to 12) anyone knows if there are any good shows worth checking out around these dates?

I think i'm missing the Real Kids/Firestarter/Tweezers show by a week...geez!

Hey meanbean, did you find any good shows while you were there?

I've chatted with Nat Records looking for leads for fests or weekenders, but no joy.

First time i was in Japan i got to see Pointed Sticks...last time there was a private Tweezers wedding show which i got invited to but it was my last night there and i needed to catch my flight early the next day...this is something i would have done no problem normally but this time i was with my kids (3-4 years old) so it was a bit tricky to work it out...responsabilities.. ..responsabilities...dam n!

Usually Poor Cow have all information/flyers about whats happening...

« on: April 06, 2017, 06:12:48 AM »
there must have been something, right? after a small amount of interneting im coming up with nothing. Anyone got info?

The very first one was called the Pengwins (not to be confused with the power pop Wisconsin one) then the Scientists came a bit later (not related with the aussie one) and recenlty a new band called the Tourists got formed (not the Annie Lennox Tourists) ...that's all info i have about the Antartic scene...

Non-punk thing I've been spinning nonstop is an LP by the Banteay Ampil Band originally released in '83, Cambodian Liberation Songs. The band consisted of musicians from a refugee camp near the Khmer-Thai border who had hidden their talents under Pol Pot's regime to avoid being murdered, including the violinist and composer Oum Dara who wrote for pop stars like Ros Sereysothea and Sinn Sisamouth before THEY were murdered. So yeah RIYL Khmer pop but also heavy hearted ballads.

Hi I'm new here sorry for this shit post

This LP rules hard! haven't quit my turntable since weeks...This record also contain many propaganda songs against Vietnamese post Khmer Rouge Liberation/invasion - depending from which side you see it - which makes it even more interesting in the context. In genral love what Akuphone has done so far in terms of  asian stuff related reissue...

the one at the right is some kind of sampler of classical thai music: interesting but nothing extraordinary, there are plenty of those.
On another hand, the one at the left is some strange vocal duets over a simple accordion monotonously played (maybe a bandoneon, an harmonium  or whatever)... plenty of strange speed changes and a psychedelic mantra feeling (there was a volume one, but the guy at the shop wanted 1000 baths for it).

If some one can tell me who they are, I'd be grateful. Here's the back:

the label discography is on discogs but incomplete unfortunately...

Cities / Re: Sri Lanka - record shop?
« on: February 24, 2017, 05:42:48 AM »
I just messaged a friend of mine who has been there a few years, and coincidentally just shipped his vinyl over, but he does not know of a proper shop...There is a Sri Lankan ebay with people offering vinyl apparently...
ikman.lk

Great place to visit though. I was there some 10 years ago but now that they have completely squashed the civil war, it is safe everywhere...

thanks for the Info....doubt i'll see any shop but with local label like Sooriya that produced records back in the days, i thought maybe there might be some around....

I'll try to hit the Galle Face Hotel to see what's left of The Coconut Club, which used to be the place were the Jetliners performed everynight in the late sixties ....

New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Re: Telephone Lovers LP
« on: February 23, 2017, 05:51:18 PM »
with names like teddy too much, Billy Telephone, bands wearing shades and coming from LA, this have everything in place for being the ultimate Plastic Letters new contender band...that being said, the songs are surprisingly not bad at all in the genre...
