I've really grown to hate Scarface and anybody who imitates Al Pacino in any movie deserves to be punched in the face.

YES AGAIN. Brian DePalma blows. Dude can't even make a decent gangster movie. What a putz. Carlito's Way is almost as shitty as Scarface, but of course it's hard to get as lame as Scarface.

lots of would-be or real gangsta types in chicago wear scarface t-shirts, hoodies, etc. i swear i've seen some kids in scarface gear. not only is it a shitty movie, it is a LONG and EXTREMELY BORING shitty movie.  this is far worse than all of the pointless violence.

does it count as a 1-2-3 punch if you have to flip the record? we need rules here, feldname.

uncontrollable urge / satisfaction / praying hands

this is my favorite so far, just 'cos i've been listening to it a lot.

i will add:

i wanna destroy you/kingdom of love/positive vibrations

B, 'Suspicious,' definitely thunders off in a way A does not. I like "In the City' very much, but still cannot adapt myself to the chorus. I felt this way with the 7" and haven't shaken it. I don't like the chorus lyric. Good news is that I think that I may have been able to trace this to seeing this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC7R97j_Yws
which i think someone here posted at some point
someone with a different name now
cause i don't remember who polluted my mind

It is a nice two sides in any event. And the cover does not belie the content,.
The songs have a distance, mysterious quality about them. Something not captured with ease.

Also, green salsa has a huge disadvantage against red. Most, but perhaps not in the SW of the US, identify "salsa" and "red salsa"  as the same. Can't bust locked signs that simply.

We should fucking give Bud to the Belgians. What the hell kind of shit was the Senator from MO talking about blocking the potential sale? are you kidding? The Belgians are going to make Bud worse? Is that a joke? Plus, MGD aside, I will enjoy any Miller.

green salsa is like side a: very enjoyable, but not as good as the red. i mostly buy mexican brands like heredez(sp?) that come in cans, and the red always beats the green. they are suprisingly good for the packaging and price.

belgians know their beer, but i'm not sure they'd make bud taste any better. miller is actually owned by the company that also owns pilsner urquel and fosters, among others.

My one real gripe about Milwaukee is that all beer and liquor sales stop at 9pm.  Totally blows.

Damn. That was my gripe with Madison. One store in the outskirts of town sold beer until Midnight.. otherwise if you were underage, you were S.O.L.!

Ah yes, the Maple Bluff run.

Are there any current Madison residents who can throw down some bashes? I grew up nearby and lived in there for many years before moving to Chicago.  At some point I will return to help my family out as they get older.  How are the rents? Is it becoming a city for rich folks?  With all of the condo development, it's starting to look like Evanston. I hope the folks don't get priced out of their 'hood.

Most of the clubs/music venues that operated when I lived there closed/burned down by the time I moved away. I know High Noon opened some time back. Any other places doing shows on a regular basis?

i likes me some vivian girls just fine, but  the nothing people lp is a killer record that deserves more attention. the singles got me excited about this release and it does not disappoint at all. great songs produced really, really, really well. they have a very distinctive sound. i'd love to see 'em live sometime.

the cover is also great. every time i see it laying out, i think, "cool, i just got a new record in the mail!"

Lover!- Hozac 7" (the first Lover! I have ever heard and I like it A LOT but I didn't realize that was Rich singing on the Knaughty Knights single on Goner; played the hell out of that thing and will be playing the hell out of this one too)
Catatonic Youth- Piss Scene 7" (holy shit, Todd- what is THIS?! best actually new thing I've heard on Hozac since Blank Dogs and/ or Wax Museums, not forgetting Spider too- I already had records by two of the three bands in the last batch, so they weren't exactly "new" to me...)
Smith Westerns- Hozac 7" (I have listened to enough records by this point to pretty much know if I like something the first time out; I don't think I like this at all, actually... they do sound a little like Black Lips, but not in a good way)

made a tape of some of the pile of records that arrived in my mailbox yesterday, which included the new hozac and vivian girls. new to lover! as well and i'm pretty damn impressed...really solid songs that stayed in my head after the first spin. and the sleeve is sharp!  didn't get to tape the other two.

the vivian girls lp is great.  i'm smitten. their show in chicago last night was short but quite sweet.

Mo-Dettes - Story So Far

whats this? an LP? all i have is "dark park creeping" 7" & i love both songs on that

I thought it was their only LP and bought it just on the strength of White Mice Disco. It wasn't very expensive at all and well worth it. They do this great song that's like the ballad of the Kray Brothers.  The cover of Painted Black grows on me every time I hear it.

Nothing People LP
Mo-Dettes - Story So Far
Dead Clodettes

This is the 2nd or 3rd spin of the NP record in as many days. How many bands with much, much higher recording budgets come up with something that sounds as good and distinctive as this?

it's almost as ugly as lou's no headstock, little rectangular guitar from the 80's. looked like a mishapen tennis racket.

Hangover records ???

Musewell Hillbilies by The Kinks has some great hangover songs: Alcohol, Complicated Life (these two are perfect together), Have A Cuppa Tea...and the rest of it is pretty damn good, too.  No overindulger should be without it.
