Why are people mixing shit with beer?

A friend of mine who spent time in Germany said he saw lots of people mixing various shit into beer. Weiss beer and banana juice seemed to be a popular combination.

One of the brewmeisters at Sprecher served us a half weiss/half ale(Black Bravarian? Wisconsin Amber?) that tasted so fucking good. I never thought beers should be mixed before, but maybe I can that Schilitz in my fridge to taste even better!

Gin and ginger beer.
Totally crucial when I was in Jamaica last year.

this jamacian styled bar in madison served gin and coconut water. no idea if it was authentic, but i thought it was pretty tasty. i'll have to give the gin and ginger beer a try.

Mekons - The Mekons Story LP
comp of late 70's/early 80's tracks. excellent, weird and dark DIY punk. aside from devils, rats and piggies, i'd never heard much of the early, pre roots rock mekons(which i also like). it was a nice suprise.

Dan Melchior Und das Menace - Christmas For the Crows

- gets my vote for best album of the year so far.  I'm not sure anything will top it for me.

I've been listening to it all day. That guy can write some great lyrics...I'm not sure how I'd describe the stuff to someone who hasn't heard it, except with generic superlatives.
Anyways, I've got it now and will be listening to it a whole lot.

Show up in sweat pants, a fluorescent muscle shirt, and a doo-rag. Address everyone who speaks to you as "brah." Get stinking drunk beforehand and punctuate every few words with a loud burp. Piss yourself before you need to walk up to the witness stand. Ask the judge where the bathroom is because you "gotta blast one something fierce."

sounds like you're ready to ride public transit and sit right next to me.

Not only should they re-listen to the album, but they should leave the fuckin' house and see them on the ten days of the year that they tour, because they are one of the best live bands you'll ever see on the nights they're on. They're a fuckin' powerhouse now with Zink in the band too. Just fuckin' amazing, and I know some people think that I slobber all over the knobs of certain bands, but when it's bands like Electric Bunnies, Psychedelic Horseshit and TV Ghost people should realize that I know exactly what the fuck I'm talking about!

I know Algoma doesn't care if people listen or not, but it bugs the hell out of me that those guys aren't considered the saviors of rock 'n roll yet!

Hue Blanc were fucking great when they were in Chicago.  That's what sold me on the record. Actually, live shows were how I got into TV Ghost and Cheveu, too.

As far as pfork ratings, I'm pretty sure that a sizeable segment of their readership don't bother with any release that doesn't have the "Best New Hype" tag or whatever it's called. Why bother with an 8 when you can get a 9.5?

Bobby "Blue" Bland's Greatest Hits LP

Underrated shit - classy! Listening to the Wrens & Captain Kirk's "Space Baby" is in my head (bring back soon, d-bag!) & Chadbourne's sorta not my thing (like some Shockabilly & a few tunes here & there).

i just got it and really dug it...i have another collection of later, straight up blues stuff called "touch of the blues" that I also like a lot.
listening to these while not working:
a frames - black forest
hubble bubble s/t
xyx (damn good)

does anyone know if the monks documentary, transatlantic feedback, is available on dvd? or will ever be available on dvd? from a brief google and amazon search, it doesn't seem to be out yet.
it played in chicago a couple of years ago.  definitely worth seeing if you get the chance.

The Troggs - Good Vibrations

I love their version.

Which of their records has heavier stuff like this or Strange Movies?
