Crash Normal was good, but paled in comparison to the unholy brilliance of the Mayyors.  Holy sheeeeeeiiiiiiiiitttttt!!!!!

Coming down from Reno for the show at D.A.M. House.  Haven't been there before.  Saw the "rules" at the bottom of the post--not planning on being a dick.  Is there anything else to know?  How much is the door?  What does the "get fed" part entail?  Are people in Sacramento nice?

Thanks!

Josh

Sounds like Beat Happening with keyboards.

(wish I knew if it was the A or B side)

Check the etchings on the vinyl just outside the label.  They'll tell ya which side is the A side.  My question is:  What the hell are the songs called?

I visited my ex-girlfriend in Rio de Janeiro and three guys robbed us in her parents' place.  They had the portero (who was likely in on it) call up to the apartment saying someone hit her dad's car in the garage.  We went down to check it out and the elevator door opened to a guy pointing a gun at us.  They took us up to the apartment, ransacked her dad's room, threw sheets over our heads and hog-tied us.  Her dipshit cousin was down on the street and saw these guys come in the building.  Instead of getting the cops (a police station was 4 blocks away), he called the apartment on his cell phone over and over.  The ringing phone sounded like an alarm going off and it freaked the banditos out.  They left after 45 minutes, taking a boom box, my duffle bag (they tossed my wallet on the floor with $600 in it), and some other electronic equipment.  Scared the shit outta me.

The A-side of this is exceptionally, brutally fantastic.  Like getting smashed in the solar plexus with a wrecking ball.  Looks like I got one of the last five copies, too.

Pete put on a hellava party

Spits ruled. 4 Reagan masks. Kept 'em on the whole time, cept for their drummer, Billiams! That was a nice suprise.
Bananas ruled.
Scared of Chaka were Sucksville. According to my bandmates, they were total dickweeds too.

I got way too stoned b4 we played and couldn't speak. My oh-so witty stage banter was gone. I was horrified.

The Awful Awful was pretty good. It went well with my leftover st pattys day green coors light at 9am.

Spits and Bananas were freaking insane!  And since you can't say it yourself, I'll point out that Nobunny ruled.  My girl and I both shrieked with glee when you started playing "Not That Good".

Scared of Chaka put on great sets both nights.  Hearing all those songs again and seeing that the band members haven't lost any of their energy (well, aside from the hippie bass player) was fan-fucking-tastic.  Can't speak to whether or not they were dickweeds off stage, but the shows were cool.

2nd night was awesomely retarded.  The Gain, the Rippers, and Dragonfire all killed.  As Norman from Dragonfire astutely pointed out: "It looks like a fuckin' riot up here, Reno!"

The Awful Awful is the best burger in town, without question.  There's another place down the street from Club Underground called Big Ed's Alley Inn that has a burger on its lunch menu that rivals, but fails to surpass, the Awful Awful.  Plus, the AA is cheap!

Here's a few suggestions for cheap eats in and around downtown:

Beto's Mexican Food - 575 W 5th St 324-0632---Cheap burritos, affordable combo plates, a few blocks west of Virginia Street.

Taco's El Rey - 2145 Sutro St # 1, Reno, NV 89512, (775) 323-0882---The best tacos in town, $1 a piece, but you'll have to take a cab.  It's a bit of a walk from downtown.

Pho 777 - 201 E 2nd St, Reno, NV 89501, (775) 323-7777---Tasty Vietnamese food smack in the middle of downtown Reno.  Old place burnt down in a fire started by a crack head in the flop house above the restaurant.  New building is more spacious.  Friends from England marvelled at the bargain basement prices on all menu items.

Peg's Glorified Ham & Eggs - 420 S Sierra St, Reno - (775) 329-2600---Esquire Magazine ranked it among the top 50 breakfast places in the USA.  It's more expensive than the casino coffee shops, but the Sierra Omelette is well worth the extra $$.

Daughters Cafe - 97 Bell St, Reno, NV 89503, (775) 324-3447---A few blocks from downtown.  Great homemade breakfasts and lunches.  Shurred eggs are go!

Java Jungle - 246 W 1st St, Reno, NV 89501, (775) 329-4484---Coffee in downtown that's not Starbucks.  Try the Mexican latte.

Bibo Coffee - 680 Mount Rose St, Reno, NV 89509, (775) 329-2114---Best coffee in Reno and the walk there takes you through one of Reno's oldest neighborhoods.

Pneumatic Diner - 501 W 1st St, Reno, NV 89503, (775) 786-8888---Vegetarian restaurant in the Truckee River Motor Lodge.  Microwave cooking at it's finest and a strong cup of joe.

Bangkok Cuisine - 55 Mount Rose St, Reno, NV 89509, (775) 322-0299---Delicious Thai food.

There are a couple of Indian Restaurants on Virginia Street if ya head south, and there's also a new Ethiopian place on 4th Street.

Nowhere near downtown but worth the trip:

Recycled Records - 3344 KIETZKE LANE, (775)826-4119---A Reno staple in the vinyl realm.  Tons of great records and cds.

Swenson's Ice Creamery- 3340 Kietzke Lane, Reno, NV 89502, (775) 825-3444---In the same strip mall as Recycled Records.  Get a chocolate malt.  You know you want one.  Or attempt to conquer the Earthquake.

That oughtta keep ya occupied during your downtime from the shows.

7. Do I turn to lower companions and an inferior environment with drinking?

No, but when my friends get dysfunctionally wasted they seem to hang out with me.

I worked as a valet at a casino when I was 21.  The parking lot was on the top floor of a nearby parking garage, and all the valets used to race guests' cars to the top.  I had already scratched the side of an oversized truck that day parking it in the oversized vehicle lot.  Some dude drops off his Astrovan at valet and I follow a co-worker up the garage at top speed (at the most 20 mph).  I wrenched the wheel hard coming around the last turn a smashed the sliding side door on a massive concrete support.  I was told to go home so that I wouldn't be around when they showed the owner the damage.  The guy flipped his lid, saying that it was a rental car and he didn't purchase the insurance.  The casino assured him they'd take care of the repairs.  Having damaged 2 cars in 24 hours, I was politely told I didn't need to come in anymore when I next showed up for work.
