Non-Music Shit / Re: Chicago Dibs
« on: February 10, 2011, 07:45:02 AM »
It took me a couple hours to dig my car out, including an extra 45 minutes after the plow came down the street and pushed another foot of snow up against my sweet ride.  This was the first big snow storm since I moved to Chicago a year-and-a-half ago and I didn't know there was a debate about the saving your spot until I heard someone at work bitching about it.  After the work I did to shovel a spot for my car and the number of people on my block who did nothing (about 50%), I put a couple of cinder blocks out as dibs.

I live around the corner from this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AMRIB8sfGg.  You don't steal another man's snow shovel.

Will be there with my lady friend, wearing the same unwashed, thriftstore tuxedo shirt as last year.

Questions from a clueless eurofag:

If I want to fly within the US, is it a lot cheaper to book in advance before going to the US, or is it the kinda the same to just fly from city to city, when I over there? Heard that it's cheap to fly around within the US...but I thought it was kinda expensive to fly from Memphis to Atlanta after Gonerfest 5.

You'll save quite a few bucks if you book your flights three weeks in advance.  Most reasonable fares sell out quickly and trying to book a cheap flight a couple days before you want to fly is nearly impossible.  No Ryanair over here to assist your travel budget.

Any good bars/clubs? (favourably cheap ones, if there is such a thing, booze is too fucking expensive in denmark)

I lived in Copenhagen for a year in '96-'97 and the cheapest bar for drinks was 2-for-1 at a place called Souls on Tuesday nights.  Dont' know if it's still around.  The address was Vestergade 3, 1456 K?benhavn, but there's a restaurant called House of Souls at that location now.  The best thing to do is grab some Tuborg and head to a park and booze it up.  Nyhavn on Friday afternoons is pretty fun.  Berating Swedes for their collective inability to hold their liquor is a Danish pastime.  Also, Danes are known for jumping into the sack with each other much faster than Americans, Brits, etc.

were good LIVE the one time I saw them play, think it was them and D4.

In like '01 or so? I was there and they were great.

I have Masonic Youth and never listen to it but I don't wanna part with it. Too much sentimental value since I've had since I was a wee lad.

that seems to be the unanimous consensus with this record, it's extremely difficult to even find a CD copy of it!

I almost sold these, but then pussed out.  Highschool tunes, man. :(

Their contribution to the Dishwasher comp is the best song on that 7" and one of the best ever about dishwashing.  Love the split with the Gain, too.  I think Goodsky was written at a Cubs game.  Seeing those records takes me back, maaaaaaannnn.

I thought Flipside turned into Razorcake?

Yeah, sort of.  Todd worked at Flipside for years and started Razorcake when Al folded Flipside.  Isn't the new "Flipside" an e-zine?  Thought I read that somewhere.

Bomp! had the boxset last week but it's not coming up on the cart today.  Must've sold out.

hm, i have several box sets from munster and a lot of other munster vinyl releases, and all of them are top quality. i doubt that the los saicos box set looks crappy.

Same here.  I have the Los Salvajes box set and the quality is excellent.

yeh they did two more albums after Mega Anal....one was Gay and I don't remember the other one.

SUCK.  The last two albums had two, maybe three, good songs sandwiched between a bunch of filler.  That said, Got2Fuk2Day is one of BTS's finest moments.  Lotta fun live and in person.  Does Norb still jump up and down when he shakes hands?

don't like/trust walt's new lab partner.

yeah, when he was in The Wire he was a wiener.

who did he play in The Wire?

One of the editors or publishers at the newspaper.  He was constantly backing up that dude who was making shit up for his stories.

Sunday's BB episode finally got the season rolling.  Saul's phone call was the best.  So fucked up.

Never heard Halo Benders - recommended songs?

The first LP is a good place to start.  "Canned Oxygen," "Snowfall," and "Don't Touch My Bikini" are all great.

Saw the Halo Benders at Yo Yo a Go Go in 1995.  Awesome set.  Made having to wait through a bunch of insufferable indie-granola bands worth it.

FUCK. YES.  Was thinking about skipping the openers, but now I'll make a more than half-hearted effort to get there around 10 PM.  Thank you WHPK for the free tix.
