And I'll say something else -- overstepping bounds, sure, but here it is -- the Catholic Boys were the last really exciting band I saw because they were such a gamble live.  They were sometimes really bad but many time really good because when they were all ON there was an element of instability on the edge of it all and they were all very separate in what they did but when it came together it was unbelievable

I think Eric is spot on here, thanks to Trickknee my band, real losers, had the pleasure of going on tour with the Catholic Boys in 2004, I gotta say it was the most fun ever. They were super energetic everytime they played, which spurred us on, what with us being like 10+ years their senior!!! It was great to see them in action for two weeks solid, didn't witness a dud show of theirs on that tour! Even whan it got messy it still ruled.

Trickknee did us proud pairing us up with those ka-ray-zee kids! Amen!

Kevin's right, I don't get out much, so if the Black Lips do come to a city near me, I'll make the effort to go, the shows are fun and they let us backstage for shits and giggles (and beer)

The cool thing about the B-Lips being on vice UK is that they are releasing all these singles over here, I snagged the new Katrina one off them on their tour.
I think they're putting out a limited gatefold LP version of Good Bad Not Evil as well. And from what I gather the Black Lips are the only band on Vice UK, so I guess they're pushing them to pillage this fair isle. Hurrah! is what I say.

The only band I bother to go and see live these days. Can't wait to hear the new LP!

Music Shit / Re: Help me turn out a teenage boy - Need your top ten

When I was a kid the only record you could class as punk in my house was Hanging On The Telephone by Blondie, even now I don't know where it came from, anyway it got multiple plays and caused me and my brother to jump up and down on our beds!
The other record was my dads Rock Around The Clock LP, that got some serious play too, even dug out the tennis rackets to jam along to that.

My daughter, who's only 2, demands Devo! So lord knows what she's gonna like by the time she's in her teens!

I'd go for:
Back From The Grave vol 1 for sure
Sonics
Dictators-Go Girl Crazy
Catholic Boys - Psychic Voodoo Mind Control
Real Kids-Live at the Rat
Teengenerate-Smash Hits
Pebbles Box Set (5 LP's worth!)
and Devo!

Those NB WHITE sneakers will not, I repeat, will not go with your Ian Curtis style dark grey overcoat!!!!
A definite no no! Never seen anything so daft in my life.

Music Shit / Re: Killer UK punk 45s
« on: August 09, 2007, 12:05:59 AM »
My wife picked up the Neon Hearts LP in a charity shop (over in the UK) on the strength of the sleeve (no I didn't design it for free, I charged them 1000 pounds) pretty catchy jerky stuff with sax!
'Popular Music' is a good track. I haven't seen this LP anywhere else! All I know is that the band weren't happy with the clean/pop direction the label pushed them in.

The Raw comp LP's were both reissued by Damaged Goods and are well worth picking up!!! I know they put out the Users re-ish 7" and there was talk of them putting out more Raw 7"s?!

You'd think that here in the UK you'd be tripping up over all these killer punk 45's, in thrift stores and second hand record stores, but I ain't ever found any of 'em! Boo hoo!

This thread is over! Thanks to the few people who got in contact re: artwork! I look forward to working with you.
I don't think any designer is going to go hungry or become destitute due to my initial post!

Maybe cdeluxx will let me come over to visit the Seripop studio? Who knows we could work together someday.

And I thought it was politicians and religion that caused all the worlds troubles, who would've thought that throwing together some images and a bit of type on a 7x7" bit of card could cause such evil! I'm ashamed of what I've done...

Whoa, shit! Just in the middle of recording some hit single with Shaun, Subliminal kids stuff. Anyways regards this design shit, ain't nobody I ever knew who made a living doing cool sleeve stuff for small labels! It is a hobby, a fun one too! I'm all about exchange of energies as a form of currency, as soon as cash is involved it kills the fun! Not stepping on toes just doing what I've always done. I like to help out friends and labels who don't have the means to pay for a great looking sleeve to go with a great sounding record!

If you wanna make some money get designing the new coldplay/killers and metalica sleeve art.

Back to recording, ciao!
