Music Shit / Re: Pere Ubu (recent)

To get to the topic at hand myself, the most recent stuff I've heard has been good, but I haven't gotten to the newest album yet.  But I would definitely not miss David Thomas in person - Ubu, solo, or otherwise.

saw rocket from the tombs on thanksgiving a few years ago.  thomas spent about a third of the show sitting and still owned the stage from his throne.  just an absolutely riveting presence.  bunch of old farts plus mehlman but still one of the hot shittest shows i've ever seen!

Don't really know anything about the Battered Wives record, but I bought it a while ago and haven't listened to it yet. Is it good?

hmmm....i listened to it once...somehow it made me think of the dictators/rubber city rebels canadian cousin. it was not great, but it was not bad either...i gotta listen to it a couple of times more

"everybody loves a loser" is a canadian classic!  the rest of the album isn't bad...

so i noticed they're coming to my town in april. (hear that richie?)

anybody seen them relatively recently? wondering what to expect.  how is the recent album?

i wasn't blown away by either of the recent albums (oddly, i thought the remix was a bit stronger), but i wouldn't dream of missing a live performance.  big dave is always on top of his game and they've a secret weapon that WILL blow you away (mehlman on drums).

Woofer in Tweeter's Clothing LP
Indiscreet LP
Kimono My House LP

The last one opens up with the song from that YouTube clip.

Don't fuck with Dinky Diamond.

more like don't fuck with martin gordon...

he's made three albums nearly as good as kimono during the past  5 years or so.  compared to the maels NONE since 1975.

No shit! I thought the Canadian press went cheaper than that. Fuck. Radioactive did a vinyl reissue of this a few years ago, I can't even find a copy of that...

Abe Vigoda mp3s. Really gotta get some records by these dudes. No Wave Polvo?

That's about as good as any comparison I've heard for Abe Vigoda's sound, but I kinda doubt those dudes have listened to Polvo. The no wave I can vouch for...

no wave polvo?  isn't that just a nice way of saying they sound exactly like early-ish sonic youth?

Skinny Puppy - Last Rites

Nothing about it is corny.

listening to the first song (love in vein) right now and the vocals are pretty fucking corny.  on the bright side, nowhere to go but up...
