« on: May 04, 2016, 08:44:21 AM »
a few things I neglected to post :

OBN III's - "Rich Old White Men" b/w "On The Verge Of Collapse" 7" (12XU 090-7)
2 new post-'Worth A Lot Of Money' crushers showcasing the increasingly nutso guitar histrionics of Messrs Neeley and Triplett, w/ accompanying socio-policital insight and pseudo apocalyptic themes (warning : that's a real stretch designed to see if blogs will just cut and paste whatever they're sent without listening to the record). black vinyl, no download code, 500 pressed, $6

EMPTY MARKETS - 'Stainless Steel' LP (12XU 086-1) $14.50
Milwaukee-to-Austin transplant Drew Schmitz has made his presence felt in bands ranging from Brain Attack, Gremlins UK, Party Garbage and most recently as the 4th wheel in the long-running paragon-of-excellence that is The Hex Dispensers. All of those contributions aside, the one project of Drew?s that probably most relevant to this discussion is Cruddy, whose 2011 12XU LP ?Negative World? was pretty goddamn special, and Schmitz? bleaker-than-bleak worldview (to say nothing of inventive guitar work) was an awfully big part of that.
Fast forward a few years and Schmitz? newly formed Empty Markets aren?t entirely removed from the vision of Cruddy (you?ve got the same fella yelling and playing guitar, no arguing that) but are we allowed to use the dreaded word PROGRESSION without morphing into Alan Parsons? Make no mistake, on ?Stainless Steel?, engineer Ian Rundell (fresh off recent knob-jobs for Spray Paint, The Rebel and Xetas) has captured the tumult, the agitation, and perhaps most importantly, the precision of Empty Markets in glorious fashion. If Cruddy was a grim snapshot of a hopeless future, Empty Markets is a Hasalbald-quality, full-scale portrait of a hopeless present.
includes download code, first 125 on clear vinyl, initial orders include a limited print from Port Au Prints.

Civil Union - Seasick, Lovedrunk LP (Melted Ice Cream) $14.00
Christchurch, New Zealand trio Civil Union's last international tour was a miserable series of break-?ins, near?accidents and existential dread. And fittingly! This is the band that sings ?Love Makes Slaves Of Us All?, an example of what kind of hopefulness you can expect within a country that?s undergoing a neoliberal makeover. And this is also the band whose bassist narrowly escaped an earthquake that levelled his home city. The misery is strong in these ones, as is common in their generation of NZ bands who?ll never afford a house: a bleak streak recently nicely summarised as the ?Antipodean Gothic?. Whether you intellectualise it or not, it?s plain to see that the chirp in this country has all gone dried up. And that?s what an LP like ?Seasick, Lovedrunk? is there to say, it in its idiosyncratic, twangy, bummed ?out way. (Which also happens to be the way of The Male Nurse or the Country Teasers, if you wanna go there.) In it, a testament to the cracks in the landscape ?? and people ?? of New Zealand. If you?re put off visiting by now, at least there?s still this album.
(CZ pressing of 300, no d/l code)
also now in stock : wondrous third-party titles from Dan Melchior, Urochromes/Wizzard Sleeve, restocks on Obnox 'Wiglet' and 'Know America'
semi-recent : Dark Blue -"Vicious Romance" 7", Manateees - 'Croc N My Pocket', Exhaustion - 'Phased Out' 12", Don Howland - 'Life Is A Nightmare' LP
coming : Meet Your Death - s/t LP (Daniels/Schooley/Assi/Hammer), Musk -' Musk 2 : The Second Scumming', The Gospel Truth - 'Jealous Fire' LP, Stickmen With Ray Guns - 'Property Of Jesus Christ' LP (live in Houston, 1984), Stickmen With Ray Guns - '1000 Lives To Die' LP (live in Dallas, 1987), DD Owen LP, and the same James Arthur's Manhunt album I've been promising for way too long.
