I still think RUN DMC'S "Peter Piper" is one of the greatest of all time. It can rock ANY party without getting a nose turned up at it, the rhymes are aggresive and thematic, and it's one of the first songs to really get the whole rare groove thing started (it samples Bob James' "Take Me To The Mardi Gras"- a classic track in it's own right).

Other than that, I really think all early Biz Markie stuff is absolutely top notch "what hip hop is really supposed to sound like" shit.

I got a mint copy of X Clan's "Fire and Earth" 12" at a thrift store in PA this weekend. Also some killer electronic bloop bleep blip sound effects records which i intend to cut up all over my X Clan 12" in a minute.

Black Lips / Re: Mother Fucking Black Lips
« on: April 12, 2006, 11:21:34 AM »
One of my favorite things about the Black Lips, is that it seems/sounds like their albums were recorded while they were all on mushrooms.

I've been saying this forever. It was confirmed as fact when I analized the way the word "boomerang" comes out of whoever's singings (Cole?) mouth. I know that sound...

the los saicos 10" on electro harmonix is one of my favorite records ever! i saw that 2x10" the other day. it looks incredible. i gotta get it!

That's the one! The whole thing is sick, despite some fucking Peruvians trying to pass off a Jerry Cole and the Stingers song as their own.

Side four is all KILLER hard psych! Just the kind you knew existed but havne't heard yet...

I dont agree that the Black Lips are a "once a decade" band, I've heard that claim from different people about different bands at least a couple times a year.

Well you're hearing it form me, so that changes the whole scenario.

No offense man, but could you suck their dicks any harder?

Don't dis me just cuz:

A) you're fucking stupid

and

B) you look even stupider when I'm around.

Exactly. They make me not care about modern bands cause when compared to the Lamps LP, most of it sucks. If the Lamps LP didn't exist I might like their contemporaries just a bit more.

Damn, who taught you how to read?

I got my chick a double 10" South American garage comp for her b-day and there's this song by Los Saicos on it that's that the Black Lips obviously used as inspiration for a few of their jams. It's a really unique song and it makes you realize that they site Los Saicos as an influence for a reason. They weren't just some fucking one hit garage band that sounded like all the other ones. Black Lips are fucking godhead. They are real artists. They rock balls. They are smarter than just about anybody making any kind of music in the world at this moment. Their won't be another band this praise worthy for at least another decade.
