Grind (and I mean GRIND, not hardcore, noise, death metal etc) didn't entirely suck for about 15 minutes circa 1987, but it-- appropriately-- expired faster than pretty much any other genre I can think of. Insect Warfare are the only consistently really good grind band I've heard since the second Napalm Death record, although early Brutal Truth had its moments. Carcass Grinder and Discordance Axis were impressive live but the records didn't catch it.
Basically, pre-death metal Napalm, Terrorizer and maybe some early Carcass are all you need.
[/quote] exactly, F.E.T.O. is probably the essential grind, and first two Carcass albums, Terrorizer album still fuckin kills everything, and also that Defecation album from '89
