New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Beaters/Ale Mania LP two-pack
« on: January 20, 2012, 03:43:00 PM »
I've spoken endlessly about my fortunate involvement with both Beaters and Ale Mania, both of whom sprung up after the demise of the Sess here in San Diego. Ale Mania's stellar debut LP, A, Who Sings That Beat?, was released over the summer, and Beaters debut LP, Fishage, is on its way. For a short time, order both LPs together for an easy-on-the-wallet $20 and save some bucks, and stream both at the link below.

So, I'm sure it's clear to anyone who's been paying attention that I tried tackling way too much in 2011 in terms of releases. As I've stated before, this label is self-funded, and the task of trying to put out something like sixteen records proved pretty difficult. However, at long last, I'm just about completely caught up. The Christmas Island Poisoner 12", the Cowabunga Babes Going Nowhere LP, and the Uzi Rash I Was 30 in 2012 LP are all in and shipping. I'll have the Beaters Fishage LP in the next couple of weeks, and after that will begin figuring out Volar's schedule for releases for the first part of 2012.  Please send any queries to volarrecords@gmail.com, and visit the link below to purchase and stream the releases.

Time to derail this with...How about you send my friend Blake his records in Austin. Who has emailed you several times about not receiving a Tokyo Electron and a Digital Leather lp.

All Digital Leather and Destruction Unit records have been shipped for a while now.  Your friend Blake should let me know if he hasn't received his rather than you posting on here about.  I haven't put out anything by Tokyo Electron.

Fuck yeah, glad this is out.  Stayed with these dudes at a friend's a couple of years ago at SXSW and convinced them to play in the backyard during our BBQ.  Any interest in a trade?

So here we are (just me, really), rounding out the year of Volar with upcoming LP releases by San Diego's Beaters and Oakland's Uzi Rash. This marks twenty-one releases on the label in a little over two years, fourteen or fifteen this year alone, which is pretty crazy. For those that don't know, this label is largely a one-man operation, mostly out-of-pocket thus far until I start getting more money in from distributors and such, and the whole running-a-business thing can be incredibly nerve-wracking (and especially tough when I'm distracted by LIFE at times), but I'm trying my best, and owe a huge debt of gratitude to my friends who've helped, to the bands I've been lucky enough to work with, to my (mostly) patient customers, fellow labels, etc. And with that all said...

VOLAR20--Uzi Rash--I Was 30 in 2012

I've known Uzi Rash mastermind Max Nordile for a number of years, from his appearances in San Diego with his former band, the Trashies, to my earliest experiences on tour playing with both Christmas Island and Spirit Photography, in which we frequently played alongside Uzi Rash in Oakland. Earlier this year, he was in town with UR playing with Volar labelmates/my roommate and good buddy's band Stalins of Sound, after which time, he asked about sending me a copy of his recently completed album, I Was 30 in 2012. A few days later, I received a CD in the mail, and knew within the first couple of listens that I had a winner on my hands. It's taken a while for this to finally come out, as I've been buried under other releases, but I'm proud to announce that Uzi Rash will be playing their record release show for the LP this coming Saturday, December 17th, and 1-2-3-4 Go! in Oakland, at which the band will have 40 limited test pressings for sale, with the official records available in a couple of weeks, and a tour in January.

VOLAR21--Beaters--Fishage LP

And something I'm especially proud about, the release of the Fishage LP by Beaters. The "Fishage" 7" was the first release on Volar over two years ago, in conjunction with Single Screen Records, and the first Beaters and Ale Mania tracks (both bands share members and formed after the unfortunate demise of my previous favorite band in San Diego, the Sess), and now the release of their first album, after a national tour last year with the Soft Pack last year and a West Coast tour this year with the Obits and Disappears, is upon us.

So, we know that that's Jack Lee singing, but nothing else at all.  Anyone have any ideas?

Those of who you bought the Under the Covers Vol. 2: A Tribute to Paul Collins, Peter Case and Jack Lee LPs or cassettes may have heard this hiding at the end.

this comp is one of my most played records of the past months and months upon months.  is it time to unveil what the unlisted track #19 is?  cause it rules.  obviously some unreleased original beat demo or some awesome shit.  deets plze.

Thanks for the kind words.  I was talking with my buddy from IHRNR about that track the other day, and I'm gonna have a talk with Paul Collins about it before anything.  I will say we don't know any major specifics about it, but that it was the reason we put the tribute together in the first place.

Regarding the DL record, those took longer than I thought to come in, but everything's here and being shipping out, so thanks for your patience.  I had to reorder some more just to keep up with everything.

UPDATES: Digital Leather--Infinite Sun 12" are in and shipping out fast, and the Lenguas Largas--Ese Culito one-sided 12" and Tropical Popsicle--"Beach With No Footprints" will be in this week. The Christmas Island--Poisoner 12" and Cowabunga Babes--Going Nowhere LP will be ready in a couple of weeks. Stream everything below, with links included for ordering.  My immense apologies and thanks to everyone who ordered and has been waiting, I learned the hard way about not tackling too much.  I plan on pacing things a bit more from here on out to make sure things are released in a timely fashion.  Any queries, complaints, etc., feel free to ask/chew me out at volarrecords@gmail.com.

Saw Tokyo Electron last night, great they slayed, as did Reigning Sound.  Haven't heard anything about E&S, but their guitarist (can't remember his name) was in town for the show last night.
