Music Shit / Sooprize Package zine
« on: January 31, 2017, 06:10:22 PM »
Anyone have any info on this zine? Picked up 2 issues for $1 each at my local record store this weekend. It looks like it's from '93-'94 maybe, out of England. It's almost all garage/budget rock. Interviews with Supercharger and a Rip Offs tour diary by Shane White. A cursory Google search reveals it eBay-ed for around $20 at some point, some other auction site I've never heard of, and a mention from a Termbo review around 2005.

I've been playing with the idea of making a blog for a while to collect some of my misc writings. Four posts up now, first is my interview w/HEAD from 2008, then an article about my adventures at the Total Punk "Fuck Off Weekend", promo material I wrote for one of my favorite bands (Horribly Wrong, from Indiana) and an interview w/Scott Drake (Humpers) from 2007.

Charlie and the Skunks are hitting the road later this month on our first tour and we still need some help. We're from Bloomington, IN and play fun garage/punk in a '50s/'60s vein. We tried but are having no luck in Columbus OH, Philly, Maryland and some other NJ/NYC places. If anyone can help please let me know! We'd love to return the favor if your band ever comes to our town. I'd especially like to play New Brunswick, NJ cuz I used to live there ('95-'00) but I don't have any contacts there anymore.

CHARLIE AND THE SKUNKS:
Take an Ice Cream Scoop out of My Brain: 7" EP
Each demi-decade or so produces its own Area Of Where-It's-At-Ness?pop punk, lo-fi, garage punk, whatever?that sort of defines the direction whence that particular mini-era's Shit Of Interest? is likeliest to come. If there were any quandaries in my mind over where exactly the Immediate Now's Area Of Where-It's-At-Ness is at, Charlie and the Skunks have cleared them up nicely: The Immediate Now's Area of Where-It's-At-Ness is clearly a sort of low-maintenance hybrid of simp-pop, lo-fi, garage punk, the last half of the 50's, and the last half of the 60's ((see also First Base, Eric & The Happy Thoughts, etc.)). At some point in time, someone either has or will give a name to this stuff, and we will all be good to go. "Pay No Attention To Time" could be a Chocolate Watchband cover ((minus the ringer)), maybe, but "Red Hot Cinnamon" could be Buddy Holly headbutting Tommy Roe in Johnny Hench's basement ((the one with the keggerator)). The last time i was in Indiana i got called a "faggot" because i was wearing pink women's pants; not sure what these guys get called but i can't imagine it's late for dinner. Undeniably swell. BEST SONG: "Red Hot Cinnamon" BEST SONG TITLE: "Ooh La La La La," because they will see the Faces' "Ooh La La" and raise them two! FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: I almost never wear a t-shirt under a button-up shirt any more, but i used to. ?Rev. Norb (Eradicator)

(eradicator) These garage trash wallowing skunks smell like teen spray-glands! If Pepe LePew could rock like this he wouldn't need to rape those kittens...they would be more than willing! (roctober)

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Booking in New Brunswick, NJ?
« on: June 20, 2011, 04:22:51 PM »
I'm trying to book a tour for my band, Charlie and the Skunks (from Bloomington, IN - featuring former members of lots of no-name bands, the singer of the Snotrags and the singer of Apache Dropout).  Does anyone know who to contact about booking shows in New Brunswick, NJ?  I lived there mid-late '90s but the house show scene was pretty dead at the time.  I'm looking for something in mid-late August and might try the Court Tavern, but I'd like to play a house show if possible.

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Norton Records 25th anniversary party
« on: June 14, 2011, 06:36:13 AM »
So the internet tells me Norton is having a 4 day anniversary party in NY in November but no bands have been announced yet. Anyone heard any rumors or in the know? I'm having visions of Pretty Things, Sonics, Flamin' Groovies and DMZ in my head... along w/whatever soul singers they might be able to dig up...  Oh and the Real Kids!
