thanks for the kind words. down to a small handful of both issues for any interested parties. once they're gone they're gone.

The Yonkers record is so fucking great.  Hadn't played it in a couple years.  It's just perfect.  That guitar tone, those drums, the vocals, the lyrics.  What's your favorite?  Mine is "Smile For Awhile."

My favorite Yonkers song too. The ominous deep monotone singing "smile for awhile and you'll see your troubles fading into nothing" while the music sucks you down a black hole kills me everytime.

After your typical laundry list of delays, flake outs, and proverbial dropped balls, Put the Music in its Coffin is back for issue 2. The first issue was met with widespread critical acclaim, a virtual handful of pats on the back, both figurative and literal, and encouraging comments such as ?It?s ok,? ?eh,? and ?not a bad job?for a queer!? so 6 months later we're back for more. Remember 2010? Neither do we, but we?re gonna tell you what our favorite records of that year were a solid 1/3 of the way into 2011! Plus interviews with Cleveland/Toledo good vibe annihilators Puffy Areolas and a rare look into the nocturnal minds of late night listening staples the Nothing People. Plus REVIEWS! REVIEWS! REVIEWS! 28 pages B & W with a full color centerpiece. All this can be your, the discerning printed matter enthusiasts, for $2.50 US or $3.50 world paypal?d to richiesdog@gmail.com.

Music Shit / Re: Essential 2011 releases

^^^as far as originally scarce things being made widely available again in 2011, how about that Rise of the Elklink LP? That's a hard one to wrap yr head around. I think the review of the original cassette included as the insert is pretty telling "this shit is actually weirder than Shadow Ring."

Been listening to X-Aspirations and the first Modern Lovers album everyday for the last week or so. I THINK THEY'RE BOTH PRETTY GOOD. Also, today:

Linda Perhacs Parallelograms. After the first few listens of this nothing was sticking so I hadn't felt the urge to put it on in awhile. Revisited it frequently the past few days and am very glad I spent some more time with it, it's finally clicking.
Monochrome Set The Independent Singles Collection. Big fan of this band and most of their material, but i don't think anything recorded is as good as the one live version of "Eine Symphonie Des Grauens."
John Fahey Dance of Death & Other Plantation Favorites.

are there any other recordings of Rock City/Icewater other than what's at the beginning of this? Those songs are really good.

There's some more, but with overlap, on the "Thank You Friends" 2 disc Ardent Records comp. That is highly recommended. I was listening to it this morning on the way to work in fact.

Also, some  label has a Rock City disc out. Haven't seen a track listing to know how much extra stuff there is, but it is definitely not the nice price . Plus, Rock City is a bitch to internet search for so I haven't found a download yet.

Edit: here is the disc. Not so into cd's these days, but if someone pressed this I would probably buy:

Killer man, thanks for the info. I am also not really tryin to spend $17+ on a CD in 2011, but will be looking for a DL until/if someone presses it to vinyl.

W.Bull, I'm totally with you on that Ice age record. i know lots of people like it but it's kind of surprising how many repeat listens it warrants. the songs are defintley very well written and some things that shouldn't work (i.e. emo leanings) are easy to look past for whatever reason. Also with you on White Castle, i had my first experience with it last weekend, and it let me down in more ways than one.

Sick Things My Life is a Mess. Ugh, these recordings are so disgustingly raw, makes me feel like ripping my skin off.
Consumer Electronics Leathersex CS. Borderline unlistenable/genius.
Sutcliffe Jugend random pieces of the ridiculously long We Spit on their Graves boxset. Harsh.
Big Star pretty much the entire Keep an Eye on the Sky boxset. a top five band for me. are there any other recordings of Rock City/Icewater other than what's at the beginning of this? Those songs are really good.
13th Floor Elevators Death in Texas. Another top fiver. boxset day.

Cheers to tommm and "The Great Learning."  Side A of that record is the best.

Wait wait wait - you have a vinyl copy of this?  Bastard!  I've said it before, but that choral piece is one nice, warm spongebath.
Yeah i'm kind of partial to the vocal piece as well. actually i think both 'sides' (i don't have a vinyl copy either. TOP WANT) compliment each other really nicely. any recommendations on other Cardew-related shit? I've only heard The Great Learning and some of the stuff he did with AMM, and i know he was pretty prolific while he was around.

His most interesting work is TGL, the AMM material, and Treatise.  Treatise is his major work.  His militant stuff from the seventies is almost unrecognizable, mostly spare parlor music with folk themes -- you'd never guess it was the same composer.

Thanks, i'll defintely check out Treatise.

Mellow Mondaze:

Bill Fay Time of the Last Persecution. Near perfect. Fuck.
Belle & Sebastian Dear Catastrophe Waitress. Love this gay band. Fuck off.
Agitation Free Malesch. I approve.
NWW Soliloquy for Lillith & Sylvie & Babs. Guess S & B isn't all that mellow actually.
The Great Learnings again.

Slices were fucking awesome last night. Sick as death.

Rational Animals were really good too. They sound way more like Saccharine Trust than they do Black Flag, people (guitar esp). And that's a swell thing. Expand yr horizons.

The Men were sounding the best I've seen 'em yet, but I had to split before their set was over. It struck me how much they sound like early ....And They Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead.
Agreed on all the above. I don't really think Rational Animals sound that much like later Black Flag either. the guitar player was the best, he made the most ridiculous facial expressions while he was playing. kinda looked autistic. really good show.
