Still the best band.

Bloodloss reissue is one of the best things I've heard this year.

r.i.p.

Revisited that Screamers tribute comp that came out in the early 00s recently. Most of it is pretty whack but the bands I remember standing out still stand out (Intelligence, A-Frames, Destruction Unit, Tyrades).

New LP from Hiromi Moritani aka Phew who played in Aunt Sally in the late 70's/early 80's and put out a bunch of LPs  sporadically as Phew over the last 30+ years. She's still got it!

Great record. She played an amazing set around the time of it's release at a church in Brooklyn. One of the best shows I've seen so far this year.

Dug their tracks on their split with Purpur Spytt. Looking forward to this.

Soupcans, Career Suicide, Taiwan Housing Project, Limp Wrist, B Boys, Pierre & Bastien, Low Life, and Institute all put out great records this year.

Is there a new Low Life? Or are you talking about the reissue

Stoked for this.

Reminds me how much the world needs Vulvettes on vinyl also.

SM remind me of Tina And The Total Babes who I prefer but personally have no need for power pop rehashers in 2017. If it leads kids into cooler shit or inspires them in whatever way than more power to them.

is this the same as the singles comp boot from a years ago? and if so does it sound any better?

much respect an thanks in advance,,
Brian

Brian yes it is. I think It sounds pretty decent. However i don't have the first one to compare. I am also far from an audiophile.

Are you sure it's the same?
The singles were made from MP3s, and maybe directly taken from youtube.
This compil has a much better sound: less louder but without the distortion.

The tracks are the same but the source may be different, I'm not sure.

I have both along with the 7"s that came a while back and dig em. I don't have a crazy setup so I wouldn't be able to tell you.

Same source. It was "repressed" by same person.

Whatever happened to The Makers? Registrators, New Bomb Turks, The Ripoffs, Supercharger, Teengenerate, Guitar Wolf were GIANTS. The MAkers were too but seem to have fallen off the radar. Really good band.

Rock Star God & the records after it happened & served to tarnish The Makers' appeal greatly.  Shit, RSG sounded awful at the the time & now that I know more about glam, it sounds even more lumpen.

But I love everything from The Hunger & before.

A while back I made a Spotify playlist of all The Makers stuff on there. Listen for yourself to the rise & fall of a band that was amazing at it's two LP peak(The middle finger record & the aforementioned Hunger(158 songs):  https://play.spotify.com/user/rapidadapter/playlist/4FIdTkpVop3c6bk7wU3u5M?play=true&utm_source=open.spotify.com&utm_medium=open

I can still hang with a good amount of early Makers, but even pre RSG there was a cheese factor in their retro garage vibe/Music Machine copped look etc that placed them closer to the Mono Men/Woggles/etc camp of 90s "garage" scene.

The self released Singles & Rare Tracks and 90s Sessions CD comps are my personal favorites. I think Terminal Boredom and 16 Wires are both great but I like them as a singles band most of all and those two collections have their best moments.

Non-Music Shit / Books on Soul/Funk music
« on: July 08, 2017, 10:02:26 AM »
Been on a big soul kick recently and realize how little I know about the genre. Read Sweet Soul Music not too long ago and was well written and informative but focused on too many of the big players. If anyone knows any good reads on the subject whether general guides of the genre or particular books on artists and labels I'd much appreciate it.
