saw some good movies in the theaters this weekend.
friday saw godard's 2 or 3 things i know about her. not my fave of his, but good nonetheless. seeing a lit cigarrette front light up a whole screen was brilliant.
saturday saw Herzog's the Wild Blue Yonder. great fake documentary about an alien race that leaves its planet to come to earth, then earth sends astronauts to explore it as a possibility of new habitat. great use of nasa and ocean footage as well as an amazing soundtrack. some great funny moments as well. liked it more than Grizzly Man as far as newer stuff of his goes. available for rent on netflix and i suggest you do. heres the trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5Lh5mD_JJ4monday got to see Robert Bresson's Au Hasard Balthazar. humanities follies seen through the eyes of a donkey. one of the most moving films ive seen, and the best performance by an animal ive ever seen. genius stuff. movies like this one are the reason i love cinema. panel discussion by village voice critics after was another great treat.
stuff ive seen at home
the documentary "A" about the cult responsible for the subway gas attack in tokyo in the mid 90s. focuses on members (mainly the PR guy) and how they deal with the media after. kinda long and not as informative on the cult as i was hoping for, but has lots of good footage and still pretty interesting.
just finished watching Performance. good flick. jagger is great in it, and the trip scene is great.
also Get Crazy rules! "Nobody fucks with you, you fuck with everybody!"
