Been trying to holler at Zirk to reissue this shit, haven't got a response though.

Where did you find his contact? On facebook?
The guys from this time dont give a shit about it
Like I've been buying from Big Tymez records who put out DJ Screw cds, the guy is so unprofessional it's almost funny. He ripped me off once by the way.

He has a twitter and i think an instagram...I pretty much only have twitter to send messages to my friend that rides a bike in my town and we comment on each others outfits and shit and then also so tweet at rappers who don't have email address's so i can "try" to reissue their tapes. Maybe i should try harder. hahah.

zirks twitter....if you get in touch tell him i want to release some shit for him

Constant Mongrel LP is fucking tops....it's like if Mitch from Low Life joined Total Control circa Henge Beat and they made an LP together.

Marbled Eye LP is great, cool guys and solid live as well.

New EXEK is fire...ive probably said this 20 times already.

New ATM record is sick peep here:
https://atminglewood.bandcamp.com

Rubella Ballet singles LP just came out (got copies, not in store yet, but holler if you want one) and well if you like rubella ballet then obvisouly you'll like this.

need to check out some of these David Nance records. his live set at goner was the perfect Neil Young stoned outdoor day session i needed at the time.

Ryan Dinosaur and Hyena test press's have arrived apparently, so expect some new Atlanta stuff soon.

GG King recorded yesterday...we are 3 songs/15 minutes into another record.

Trying to get better about listening to new music...I feel like there is less that i really enjoy, but the things i do enjoy have staying power.

I couldn't log in due to a glitch, so I'm going to post several compilations I did lately.

First is the tape "Creepin' In Memphis'', that I released along with Poing de Force soundtrack tape, Mobb Deep demo, Triple Six Mafia 'Smoked Out Locced Out'', DJ Screw compilation & others. I also put out new zines, if you want you can follow the instagram page for news: @neonspublishing

"CREEPIN' IN MEMPHIS" compilation, an hour of lo-fi Memphis gritty rap from the 90s
SIDE A: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRtwzmo7_G8
SIDE B: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noqSr0g2-nY

DJ Zirk - 2 Thick
Tommy Wright III - Manslaughter
DJ Paul - Sweet Robbery (Part I)
Frayser Click - Load Da Ammo
Tom Skee Mask - Niggas Watch Your Back
Lo Key - On That Devil Shit
Princess Loko - Loko 4 Real
Mack DLE - Buddah
Carmike & Lil Noid - Let's Run A Train
----------------------------
Criminal Mafia - Fuck A Trick
N.O.D. - Fuck Da World
Project Pat - Redrum
Triple Six Mafia - Paul Wit Da 45
Player 1 & Bloody Bones - Back 2 Da Dope Track
Blackout - No Witnesses
DJ Spanish Fly - Cement Shoes

I chose ''2 Thick'' (1993) by DJ Zirk as the first song of this mixtape, because to me it's one of the most influential tracks on Memphis rap, on the artists who would shape the "Mempis / Devil Shit" type of rap known to a wider, almost mainstream audience nowadays. Underground, raw and brutal. With samples everywhere, and this saxophone, sampled by DJ Paul for Three Six Mafia's "Playa Hataz''  or Project Pat's "We Gone Rumble" to name a few. Paul and Juicy J of Three Six Mafia used so many parts of this track for their productions that it has become impossible to count every songs including samples from the Buckshot verses in ''2 Thick". Break Da Law '94, Slanging Rocks Pt 2, Drop It Off Yo Ass, Talk Yo Ass Off, Busta Ass Nigga, Nine To Yo Dome, Murders and Robbers,  Grab The Gauge.... The list goes on.
The final track, "Cement Shoes" by DJ Spanish Fly is also a pioneer and as been sampled a thousand times. Crucial.

Been trying to holler at Zirk to reissue this shit, haven't got a response though.

Bohemia - Automatic Mind 10"
Bohemia - Deviations LP
Bohemia - No Ordinary Moon 12"
Bohemia - All The Way/Love Turns to Stone 12"

Chicago's punk era music scene doesn't seem to get a whole lot of love from most collector types, but I feel like that's mainly because people are looking in the wrong places. This band's catalog, for example, is excellent and they're virtually written out of history. Their catalog charts a stylistic progression from good, but standard punk with strong female vocals on their first record to really high quality synthpop that wouldn't feel out of place being played by Ron Hardy back when it was released on their last single. In between they played original and occasionally arty punk/new wave that sometimes reminds me a bit of X, but really is all on it's own and moves in a lot of directions, and outside of their lone reggae song, really seems to avoid any horrible stinkers. I was able to track down nearly their whole catalog for less than $20 total.

Got that "Love Turns to Stone" 12" probably almost 15 years ago by searching "post punk" and "no wave" on eBay and buying anything cheap that looked cool. I think i got it in a lot with 3 or 4 other cool 12"s for like $10. Still really dig that track and have always meant to pick up some of their other records.

I'm Terry

Had trouble getting into this, but ~10 spins at work worked though I am still not 100% convinced.

I was left feeling "Do i really need a 3rd Terry LP?" Would like to see them get a little weirder with it. As much as i love jangly Aussie/NZ stuff, getting a little burn on a lot of it. I don't think its bad, but yeah just lukewarm and not with the hits the came with earlier on. Maybe it'll grow on me. Enjoying the Primo LP much more, especially the bside. I need a few more listens on this Shifters LP as well before i know where I stand.

I listened to Screeching Weasel as late as high school. Ugh!
Unfortunately for me, I still have a calf tattoo of the SW logo from when I was 19, which is far too late in life to be listening to that band.

As a younger man, I was really into bands like A Minor Forest, Party of Helicopters, Milemarker, Sleepytime Trio, etc. and I really don't know what I was thinking in retrospect.

Yo I actually still ride for Party Of Helicopters.....i love the guitars....vocals too actually....Aged much better than a lot of the screamo era stuff

Yeah I actually got a Party of Helicopters LP (mt forever) a year ago on a whim.  I somehow never heard them before and I liked it enough at first, but it really grew on me.  I’ve picked up a couple of their other albums and like them too.

Were they screamo? I don’t hear it - just sound like a indie rock band playing heavy NWOBHM riffs.  Teeth of the Hydra was REALLY popular in Columbus ten/fifteen years ago (although they were never my thing) and people always made a big deal that their drummer was in PoH - after hearing some of those nasty riffs I can understand why they gave a shit

They weren't really screamo...just kinda played with bands from that scene kinda....ie they had a split with Harriet The Spy....And i think your assessment fits with Mt. Forever and beyond. "Abracadaver" (3 years prior to Mt. forever) had more of the scream vibe....i mean they didn't scream...i donno like they made sense with bands like Universal order of Armageddon on the early stuff. I think the more produced rock stuff is great. The last album "Please Believe It" might be what people would call a guilty pleasure for me, but i would listen to it shamelessly.

Mad Nanna

I really wanted to like that LP, but it never clicked for me. "I Made Blood Better" is a great title....I do still ride for the "I Wanna See You / The Nectarine Tree" 7". The Nectarine Tree is like a fever dream....i can remember a night i had slept at my parents and went to sleep with this song on repeat. at some point sleep and wake seemed the same. If everyone of there songs was this good i would be a much bigger fan. It's like a more "rock" version of Shadow Ring.

I do really like those Love Chants records that Zulicki also played on.
