Non-Music Shit / School me on current zines
« on: March 11, 2014, 10:22:36 AM »
Looking for more zines to pick up, since there's been a real jump in general quality recently I feel like I'm probably missing something I shouldn't be.

Here's stuff that I've been into

-Almost anything from the Feel It distro
-Distort
-Put The Music In It's Coffin
-Negative Guestlist
-NUTS
-Down and Out

Doesn't necessarily have to be music related as long as it's got some meat on its bones and doesn't read too much like a confessional.

Non-Music Shit / Getting laid off
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:15:40 PM »
I got laid off today- I knew it was coming for six months and despite it a) being a minimum wage job and b) giving me a severance package I'm still bummed out.

I worked there 5 years and had friendships with some people there (mainly middle aged women that I probably wouldn't hang out with outside of work) that exceeded any romantic relationship I've ever had in length.

Barely made it out of the tearfest alive at the end of the day. Getting laid off sucks.

Music Shit / HARDCORE 2013
« on: January 02, 2013, 04:09:48 PM »
Guess I'll start this one out.

New Culo LP should be out within the next coupla months- it's leaked but I hate downloading leaks so I'm waiting it out like a sucker. Apparently it's killer though.

Music Shit / School me on "rockcrit"
« on: February 10, 2012, 09:46:32 PM »
I've been tearing through David Hajdu's Heroes & Villains this week (especially enjoying his roast of Lomax and the White Stripes) and it's made me realize that I have no idea what goes on in music criticism outside of zines- and all the shaky quality that comes with them.

The only other music critic I've read is Lester Bangs, but I think pretty much everyone and their cousin have read him at some point or another.

Who are some other writers that I can check out in book form rather than zine? Time period is fairly irrelevant to me as I learned reading that Hajdu book (seeing as it's the information age and I can google any artist I'm not familiar with relatively free of charge), just want good writing.
