Music Shit / Re: HARDCORE 2014
« on: May 29, 2014, 10:02:09 AM »
Finally got to see L&Ds a few nights ago, killed it live. Same with Hankwood, never had a chance to see them until this past weekend and as I expected they put on a helluv-a set. Institute from TX, Black Barron from Hamilton, and Pretty Boys from Montreal were all great as well.

Thank HW&THH show was by far the best show I've seen in years. 5 awesome bands from all over the place, no real delays and great opportunities to groove via the heads and destruction unit. Christ I'm getting giddy just remembering it.

Shame I had to work the next night and didn't know L&Ds were playing till the previous night.

I guess I "prefer" DoH just because I don't think CS are that great live.

Both are excellent on record though, so it doesn't even matter on that front. I feel like your fervent hate of CS could be energy better spent elsewhere.

Any distros in NA other than video disease getting that Gutter Gods LP? Would grab it from VD but there's not much else I'd want to justify the shipping cost of a single LP. Sorry State/Katorga/Grave Mistake?

Non-Music Shit / School me on current zines
« on: March 11, 2014, 10:22:36 AM »
Looking for more zines to pick up, since there's been a real jump in general quality recently I feel like I'm probably missing something I shouldn't be.

Here's stuff that I've been into

-Almost anything from the Feel It distro
-Distort
-Put The Music In It's Coffin
-Negative Guestlist
-NUTS
-Down and Out

Doesn't necessarily have to be music related as long as it's got some meat on its bones and doesn't read too much like a confessional.

Music Shit / Re: BRUNCH ROCK
« on: February 03, 2014, 01:28:32 PM »
Ive never "brunched". My brunch experience is the same as the aforementioned elderly family member having some folk over. BUT reading the last half of this thread has made me hungry enough to dip my toes into this phenomenon.

That being said, all the talk of money in here has also made me wish I had more of that so I guess I'm not true brunch either. I think there's a place a block from my house that only does brunch It's a "creparie" so that's brunch incarnate right?

As an aside, it would be great for Brunch Rock to get adopted off this board when talking about music. Sorta like when mystery-guy hardcore seemed like it took a dive into most music writing, at least for a little. Also I know it's been covered that not all BR is necessarily bad, but I think Zola Jesus being on that first list is pushing the limits of BR a little. Not something I think most folks who think they're boheme would like to dine to if it was played at a proper volume.

Wow that first record was good, but this is fucking WILD.

Very excited.

Thanks to growing up where I did, when I did- I think this award goes to Fucked Up because of the literal dozens of singles they put out (even before they stopped being that great).

One day termbo will come around on The Notebook.

I'm indifferent but they have a couple songs I've heard over the years I'd let have another try.

Was worried by the thread title that this was some Exploding Hearts-esque van accident or something though. That woulda sucked big.

I'd grab a PS&G resissue in a heartbeat.

I was supposed to put the Warthog and La Misma 7"s up for sale at midnight, but I'm going to hold off for a few days! Not everything is quite ready yet.

When they do go on sale, be sure to grab the Ajax demo too. And lots of a Toxic State backstock.

As for a new Wiccans release on KW, I'm not sure if anything is official, but I hope they want to do another record! Lol

Grabbed that Ajax tape from Warthog when they were in Toronto last and it is GREAT. Alexander Heir's art is also wicked no matter what its on.

Beaten to the punch.

2014 is opening strong with that new Warthog 7" and more importantly, a La Misma EP.

Nothin as nuts as the Culo LP that broke last year wide open but who knows what'll pop up.

Music Shit / Re: Termbo vs. Pitchfork
« on: December 27, 2013, 10:04:46 PM »
If not for Terminal Boredom, I never would have discovered dozens and dozens of albums that have brought me pleasure over the past few years.

But, then, I also would never have known about Pitchfork or that teddy boy asshole with the barber pole on his nose (thanks for the quarterly update on that faggot, by the way: it's only because he's so shitty a person that he needs to occupy my thoughts).

In the spirit of discovery, I hope I am the first person to inform you of this new-to-me, what-appears-to-be-hardcover "book" "subscription":

http://thepitchforkreview.com/

Quote from: Pitchfork founder and CEO Ryan Schreiber
The price point [$49.99 for an annual quarterly subscription; $19.96 per issue "in a nod to Pitchfork's founding year"] is in line with the literary and cultural journals that exist, like Monocle and Kinfolk.

Never heard of Kinfolk but next to being Pitchfork related, comparing anything favourably to Monocle is another good reason for me to get the hell outta dodge. That whole rag is just a consumer guide for rich assholes with a spattering of just enough obscure international news to let you pass as "well-traveled" to your other fake-rich pals.
