I believe they played in Chicago once or twice?

THE HAPPY THOUGHTS - s/t debut LP/CD (HZR-088)
We'll admit, this finished album landed at our headquarters late last summer, but it just seemed unfair to release it in the Fall or Winter months, since this debut LP by the Happy Thoughts is such an incredibly classic-sounding 'Summer album' in all aspects of the term. How do guitar riffs like these clear the clouds away so well, while embracing a pure freshness in such a familiar sense? You?ll feel like you've been listening to these songs your whole life. As clean and crisp as the early 60s-infused rock?n roll backbeat holding onto these songs for dear life, each track sticks right to your ribs, and with the addition of a full band, compared to the previous solo recordings, it?s a richness you didn't even know you deserved. Purity, harmony, and true, unabridged happiness come bleeding through this collection of songs even more impressively than on the other bands Eric LaGrange has played a pivotal part in, namely, the excellence of the Cave Weddings and Romance Novels (the latter of which, chosen by Nobunny for support on his first US tour).

It's got the boyish charm of The Bobby Fuller Four humming along '64 Bang-era Neil Diamond hooks, in that same magical way Nobunny channels the ghost of Buddy Holly so well. Yet, The Happy Thoughts' raw innocence is so irresistible, so untouched by this cruel world's evil clutches, it's like that first kiss, that first warm breeze of Summer, that first wave of excitement you get when you got your first taste of freedom. It's so heartwarming in certain spots, that it's almost intimidating to a point, where the sheer optimism and elation of being alive soaks up all the blackness stuck in the darkest corners of the human heart. A true Midwest, Summer classic that will win over even the most hardened souls and the perfect remedy for every level of depression known to man. -VictimofTime.com

MICKEY - Rock'n Roll Dreamer  debut LP/CD
Oh yes, the Mickey album is finally here, and it's one of those records that will hit you unexpectedly. This sparklingly devilish debut LP comes off so ferociously powerful and snotty, yet recorded and delivered with a finesse and attitude so overwhelming, it might just become your new obsession. Deranged glam pop that hearkens back to the daze of corrupted youth, running from the law, outwitting your parents, and the endless thrills that come with breaking away into where the night takes you. It's got the desperation and the dereliction to conjure these impulses so well, you might even feel like running away from home, just for that irreplaceable rush, years after you've already left. Guitars this clean shouldn't sound this dirty, and songs this juvenile should never be this immediate. That's just what might be the most intriguing facet of this debut LP, a triumphant return to the nastiness of unhinged rock?n roll that spans the ages. Conjuring 50s/70s doo-wop/glitter catchiness with pop/metal hooks that just were never supposed to be, yet here they are, running down your legs in all their soiled glory, as the songs come bleeding out of the speakers while you scream down the highway.

And 'lo-fi' witch-hunters beware, as this LP is recorded with crystal-clarity for maximum HARD ROCK fidelity, making Mickey's Rock'n Roll Dreamer a non-stop ride through the quintessential teenage brain, knocking over everything valuable in its path, and creating a universal swooning that just isn't even attempted in these days of knob-twiddling self-indulgence. It?s a familiar, yet refreshingly new frontier of modern punk that pushes the infected juices of pounding glam, miscreant metal, and scum-pop gold all to the forefront of today's teenage news. The incredible songs, the immaculate production, and the savage intensities all come together on this debut like no other, creating one of Chicago's most critical benchmarks of underground rock'n roll for the ages, and here's your first chance to take a ride. -VictimofTime.com

well, not 'fucked over' per se, but we at least got free beer for the first time since 2003, and Brett didn't get shunned, is what I meant to say. And Testors aren't entirely comparable since it had Mario & John backing him up instead of the original dudes.

Sonny Vincent was indeed awesome but the Nervous Eaters had much less intense eyebrow dye-jobs!

We'll definitely be back with it next year too, somehow we didn't get fucked over.

....Red Cross headlining hopefully, too!

Metal Urbain and Volt. C'mon!

Already begged Volt too many times, Jack told me to stop asking, believe me they were one of the top bands we wanted to see. Metal Urbain would be great, we'll keep that in mind. They were so good the last time they were here, 2003, I think?

I think a few folks were having flashbacks during the Puffys set too, and pieces of mortar rock were falling from the ceiling in the corners, landing on people standing back against the wall. it kinda felt like the place we gonna collapse, so great and so untouchable!

Officer Brad, you've been wrong quite a few times, but this time you were wronger than ever, THANK GOD!
Nervous Eaters tore it up and were a total blast, definitely topped the Testors, and Pagans for the Blackout reunion bands!
