www.seedstockrecords.comSeed Stock Records Newsletter Number One
Welcome to the first edition of the SS newsletter of what will hopefully become a common occurence. It's coming a bit later than was first planned, but this was for the reason of waiting slightly longer to allow for more new releases. We are proud to announce our first two vinyl releases (Sovereign 10", Moontower LP) and a new release on RB records ('Dust in the Fallen Face'). There are many more things in the works/being planned right now, it's a crucial time for the label, we urge your support, and encourage people to get the records and not just upload/download the material online. Find detailed descriptions of all the new stock below:
Sovereign "Rehersal 95" 10" (ss-01)
Sovereign have been a strange and unique band in the underground for a long while. With releases marking back all the way to the late nineties, they have developed a surprisingly long discography that has spread as slowly as you would expect of vinyl only releases from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Regardless, Sovereign's style is something that will immediately stand out, and distinguish itself from the many other "black" bands from that region. Their music is vibrant, raw, melodic, and the only thing noticeably "Brazilian" about it is how the sole member, Rudolph, wrangles the guitar strings like he's choking out the last breath of a living animal.
Here, as Seed Stock's first release, we've managed to unearth some of the earliest recordings of the band, and they don't stray from the Sovereign style, nor sound formative for a band in their earliest stage. With these 3 tracks you have all the same feeling and energy that exist on his great debut LP "Under the Influence of Mars" but with a rawer production and more explosive drumkit. This release was put together by Sovereign - it's mastered from the original tapes (it's a vinyl that sounds like an old cassette playing) and has album artwork designed by the band.
Moontower "In the Shadow of the Wolf" LP (ss-02)
Coming out the 2nd wave of Polish black metal, Moontower were one the names that stood out in this scene of dangerous and violent music from that era. With contemporaries like Ohtar, Selbstmord, Kataxu, and Gontyna Kry this scene defined itself as the most potent in all of European black metal for that time period. With several great demos and a split cassette with Ohtar, Moontower were and continue to be one of the most productive Polish bands of that time. In the Shadow of the Wolf was released as a debut mini album of sorts back in 2003, and to this day stands as the band's finest acheivement (in Seed Stock's opinion of course). Although it's a short intro, 2 songs, and one cover song release the quality of this style of black metal is worth its weight in blood. This is cold and melodic black metal that aschews some the trademark Polish atmosphere for outright intense riffs and more violent rhythm shifts. This re-release acts as the expanded edition, and comes with extra rehearsal tracks and covers from that era. Limited to 250 copies with hand assembled covers/pro-printed covers.
Raspberry Bulbs "Dust in the Fallen Face" CS/Booklet (rb-02)
This is not a new RB release, but rather 3 tracks from the project's beginning state. Recorded in 2008, these tracks embody the most crude elements of what now comprise the band. The idea is human life: blood, organs, and tissue pulsating around a bloody heart beat - bright, anxious, and repetitive with thoughts concieved and expressed in appropriate tone. If you thought that "Finally Burst" was amateurish and poorly recorded then you are in for a self-defecating dissapointment once again. This cassette is limited to 100 copies, purple covers, with poly cases, and a very thick 40 page A5 chapbook featuring the lyrics, writing, and unused thoughts from the period of 2008-early 09.
White Medal 'Agbrigg Beast' CS
This release is the exciting revelation of a band coming into their own. Up until this point White Medal have worked at defining their sound and their purpose, and here it is realized in full with a concise set of 5 songs full of character and effective composition. The rawness is still there, the sentiment is there, but now it comes together with fitting riffs and a sturdy jog rhythm that proves to be most comfortable for WM. The music is tough and midpaced but not overly pronounced in it's step. Agbrigg is refined and simple, and still carries the essence of what a black metal demo sounds like, but rarely is a tape released where each song is as strong as the next and has smooth continuity like 'Agbrigg'. This sounds much different from WM's past, and shows a new strength in all of English Black Metal.
White Medal / Skullflower 7"
WM's second appearance on vinyl materializes as a split with an unlikely Britsh contemporary. Here White Medal execute a rough number in their branded march. Skullflower are somewhat unrelated and although they knod at black metal slightly, they resort to their trademark monotonous wind. Limited vinyl with interesting red on black cover art.
White Medal 's/t' 7"
Here is the debut WM 7" with silkscreened cover and white vinyl. This shows the bands in it's earliest and most protozoic state. Here the songs are much less formed, but still the elements are present: rawness, black metal, and primitive rhythms.
Sump Demo 1 CS
The first cassette from this deformed Oi!/Punk group from Yorkshire (White Medal related). Contained is the most basic and raw violence executed in a blunt and unhurried fashion. Mostly revolving around a dirty stomp, the low quality static and smash churn out one-two rudiments of basest rock music. Very limited tapes with labels and mind-expanding (literally) cover art by band member.
Sump Demo 2 CS
The second cassette from this deformed Oi!/Punk group from Yorkshire (White Medal related). Another set with the same disposition and movement. Very limited tapes with labels.
Sump/ Sex Wound CS
A short set of Sump's crumbling step. This time exhibiting more melodicism and chorus than usual. Sex Wound contribute one long burner to their side.
Ash Pool "For which he plies the lash" CS
The 2nd full length from Ash Pool. Big bang black metal, showing the band pull off a style that sounds more trained, violent, and muscular than all their previous material. This is the cassette version on Hospital limited to 200 copies on black, labelled cassettes.
FFH "Anything is Possible" CS
A new tape of demented/convicted power electronics. Static haunting, with depraved and desperate vocals lost in the wind. From the new tape batch at Hospital, limtied to 200 copies with color covers.
Inflabitan "Wanderer of Grief" CD
This amazing new collection CD from Kyrck reveals that there are still some unearthed Norwegian gems that have sadly gone, for the most part, uncirculated until now. Inflabitan is mainly the work its one eponymous member, and he's a musician that was deeply established in the early Norwegian underground and was even later associated with Dodheimsgard and Dimmu Borgir in the late 90s. The recordings here vary from amazing and fantastic Norwegian black metal in great idiosyncratic Ved Buens Ende, earliest In the Woods, or early Dodheimsgard vein to sometimes strange, bombastic and symphonic compositions. No matter what, the songs are complimented with amazing guitar playing, highest caliber riffs, and the magical sentiment that can only be created by Norwegians of this zeitgeist. Totally essential! Regardless of the band's later material (like is the case with most Norwegians) this group's early material exemplified amazing innovation and taste within the then new genre of symphonic black metal. Here, the amazing Kyrck label has again unearthed something mostly unheard of insanely high quality. This is two old rehearsal tapes of LA from their beginning stages. These do not whatsoever feel like unfinished songs, but on the contrary, are totally complete and their raw quality adds a rough and effective edge to their otherwise typical clean sound. Great songs with amazing atmosphere and feeling. Totally essential.
Sacrilegium (Pol) - Embrace the Darkness CD
Aside from the typical Polish associations of Graveland, Veles, Infernum, etc. there was another side to Polish black metal in the mid nineties that still had an emphasis on atmosphere, yet occupied a different space in its sound. Bands from this side were early Behemoth, North, and Sacriliegium. These bands had the trademark Polish keys, melodicism, and murky productions, however they always ended up feeling more majestic and airy. Not to say they were lacking in punch and ferocity, but they seemed to take flight easier and didn't 'gallop' as much as the other Poles. Sacrilegium were an amazing example of this style, and stand as one of the best from that country. They released their essential demo, 'Sleeptime' on the notorious Wild Rags label, a split with their cohorts North, and eventually their sole full length 'Wicher'. This great cd collects t 'Sleeptime', the split with North and even some new unreleased demo tracks. It's a just presentation of these songs, and contains lyrics and liner notes from the band. Zyklon-B "Blood Must be Shed" 7"
This group later went on to do much less exciting things as Zyklon, but with this release embodied one of the most successful super groups from the mid nineties era in Norwegian black metal. This recording really shows all participating members in top form and ferocity. You have here some the most brutal and memorable riffs made by either Ihsahn or Samoth, fitting brutality and tightness in the drums by Satyricon's Frost, and perhaps the 2nd best vocal performance from Aldrahn (next to, of course, the ultimate 'Kronet til Konge' by DHG). This release is anomaly amongst Norway at that time, and drops behind the mystical/natural/heritage themes to focus solely on violence and brutality. I can't think of a better example of this brutal style that later went on to influence bands like Niden 187, Sorhin, and was later ruined by many of the Swedish groups of the mid/late 90s. Here you have the recording on a nice repro-bootleg 7" limited to 300 numbered copies. Absolutely Essential !!
