Have you tried UC Davis? The thing we started at UCI is still going strong www.acrobaticseveryday.c om - in a city like Irvine theres really no choice  but to DIY. And having shows on campus has the potential of a built in audience.  Its just a matter of finding the right trailer/class room/rec room close enough to free parking to make it work.  Other then that you've got no overhead so all the door money can go to the bands/paying for the PA.  It might take a little work to convince whatever administrator its a good idea but if that doesn't work, at UC schools you can start a club with 3 people then the school has to give you a room to hold your 'meetings' in so just indoctrinate 3 kids from the radio station and you should be good. Just an idea thats worked well for us and has been a lot of fun for everyone involved.

Music Shit / Re: 2011 HARDCORE PUNK
« on: February 09, 2011, 02:59:43 PM »
Just saw this 'cerberal ballzy' band from new york cuz they were playing by my house.  decent straight ahead 80s style hardcore punk - only problem the show (maybe their tour?) was sponsored by Volcom so there were more people with expensive cameras taking pictures and movies then there were kids being 'punk'- at one point someone threatend to sue me because i ran into their "3 thousand dollar camera" while they were standing in the front of what was suppose to be a 'circle pit' that the band kept begging for.

Also in between songs these guys go 'this ones about having no money to buy beer' then rip into it on their fancy gibson guitars and sovtek amps ... what is this shit? makes me sick - how are any decent diy real bands suppose to get noticed when you have the corporate hype machine shitting all over the scene just to sell some trendy jeans

THURSDAY JULY 24TH 2008  www.acrobaticseveryday.c om www.myspace.com/ucidiy

we are truly proud to present
a very special performance by a living legend:
PETER WALKER
http://www.tompkinssq.com/walker_echo.html

Peter Walker released two critically revered and influential albums of avant-guitar-folk steeped in the tradition of classical Indian music in the late 1960s, and then disappeared for nearly 40 years. He was rediscovered recently, still very much in love with playing his guitar, by the esteemed Tompkins Square Label, who allowed him to release his first album of original material in four decades.

Having spent quite some time studying flamenco guitar under masters of the art these past few decades, Peter will be playing a set of material drawing from the close relationship between American Folk, Spanish Flamenco, and Indian ragas.

[tentative]
preceding his performance will be a lecture by well-known and widely-respected UCI professor of ethnomusicology, Robert Garfias.
