Best band. I could give a shit about the hype - bassline on "tiswas is worth the price of admission alone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjCHNEtudR0

Wow - checking out Mordecai on sound cloud right now - pretty excellent.  Not easy-listening by any means, but perfect damage.  I having been paying too much attention to new stuff, need to rectify that and pick this one up!

Always dug this song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEEdLSaxAVQ - not my favorite band, but saw them a few times when I first moved to the city around 95-96 and they were fun .  Played a lot with the Stallions, Candy Snatchers, Yellow Scab, Devil Dogs, etc - first singer was the best...

The Feelies - The Good Earth

Easily one of my favorite records of the 1980s.

primate 5 ?
Well that's a coincidence - I was in Primate 5 when they (we) first started out...93-95?  Might have been a P-5 instrumental theme back then?

OK, just spent a few minutes reading the whole thread.  This was the era that got me booking bands and trying to get all the good bands to come to NYC, which wasn't happening that much before.  I agree with Tricknee - the midwest was where it was at and I thank him and Killings (among others - Jami, etc) for turning me onto this scene that was happening. Mid to late 90s I had shifted gears and was listening to mostly out-there music (Sun City Girls, Fushitsusha, Dead C, all the NYC Jazz scene revolving around David Ware [RIP], Skullflower, etc).  Then I started to pay attention again to rocknroll and 01-05 was a total blast.  Nostalgic?  YOU BET!

Also, one record not yet mentioned I want to chime in on. Not a top 5, but an awesome record...loved this band:

Dan Melchior's Broke Revue - Bitterness, Spite, Rage & Scorn

And yes Bazooka, Andy from Little Killers had (has) the best rocknroll voice. That first record reminded me a lot of early Saints in his delivery...

back to lurking...gotta go open the shop - Happy Thanksgiving, kids!

Hey Andy,

Not sure if you're gonna keep reading this thread, but I've been trying to get in touch for a while to catch up.  Let's grab a drink sometime!  Hope you're well and you got my email address so drop me a line.  Believe it or not, I'm now on "the facebook" (just to promote my new wine shop).

Miss ya buddy and its kinda astonishing they're trying to call this a Devil Dogs reunion without you

Not sure if its mentioned here, but I would love to have a really good comp of 70s damaged pre-punk.  Maybe 1971-1976 underground basement rock in the vein of Debris, George Brigman, Von LMO, early Swell Maps, etc.  One-off singles by bands more obscure than these.  Not in the Bonehead Crushers or Do What Thou Wilt vein, but more in the damaged vein of Cle punk (Mirrors, Rocket From the Tombs), Simply Saucer.

Of course, maybe more of this stuff just doesn't really exist. Or if it does, they were all full length releases that have been re-issued.

Man, Saints are a fuckin' great band, but I would not recommend that as the only ONE punk record to someone. It's not obnoxious enough to fully represent punk.

I'm surprised there aren't more suggestions like Tampax, or GISM or other fucked up shit.

Youse some vanilla motherfuckers!

I guess I'm out of the loop here, or maybe too old, or not "punk" enough, but for someone to put Tampax or GISM over the Saints...I'm absolutely lost here, simply no comparison...AT ALL

I guess I'm vanilla
